Today people travel very actively and tourism grows as an industry. In the 80’s and 90’s the Canary Islands where a very popular tourism destination, Tenerife is still the most popular one of the seven islands. Today travelers seem to look for more different destina-tions, that are further away, like for example Thailand and now the Canary Islands seem to be in the shadow of all this. The aim of this thesis is to chart the changes in the 60–80 year old Finnish pensioners travelling to Tenerife, between the years 1980 and 2008. The purpose is also to find out what the motive for travelling to Tenerife is for these persons and if they are tempted at all by the destinations that are different. The writer is only con-centrating on one of the islands, Tenerife, and interviews only Finnish pensioners in the age of 60–80 years. The theory part of the thesis is about the tourist and different tourist typologies, segmentation and the motivation to travel together with different traveler be-haviors. Furthermore the text also presents the destination, the island Tenerife, as a tourist destination and its situation today in the tourism industry. For the research, the qualitative method is used, with interviews in Tenerife, so the result would be as narrative as possi-ble and enables discussions with the respondents in the environment that the interview is about. The result is quite clear and shows that the finish pensioners still like Tenerife as much as before and all in all we can see that their traveling to the island has not changed, during the last years. Many of the respondents started as enthusiastic explorers and then they started the ordinary life at the island. This is still their situation today; their second home is on the island.
