The target of the development project was to find out what are the different actions in the Kainuu Institute of Vocational Education for the forming of well working student groups. Since year 2004 common actions for the forming of groupshas been planned and put into practice, for example special group day in Joutenlampi. The target of the group day is to produce good working groups which can work together, decide together and learn together. The different group actions support the remedial teaching significantly. It is important to get the students who did not succeed in their studies along to the group activity and to pay special attention to them. This will ensure their continued positive and productive attitude and performance in their studies and to reduce the risk of the students underperforming. A large part of the school staff and beginning students were interested in the group days of autumn 2005 and 2006. The feedback that was received since the group days, were excellent. The positive feedback encouraged the leadership of the school to join the development project and to regularize activities. In the development project the significance of well-functioning student groups is argued and different activities, like group exercises and plays, are presented.
