The objective of this project was to clarify the role of the job learning and its meaning to employers in the hotel and restaurant business. Employers knowledgeof the job learning was researched as well as teachers' impressions on the employers' knowledge about the job learning. In this report the focus is in the quality of guidance, the validity of evaluation, two-sided feedback and the cooperation between the school and employers. There is a gap between the school and employers when talking about the evaluation and the guidance on the job learning. The employers are aware that a part of the professional training is done at the work. However they do not understand the difference between the tradional practiceand the job learning. The quality of the job learning is not very high and the job learning is not supported enough by the employers. To evaluate the job learning is difficult and the evaluation results are not consistent with the real life. The main reasons for the low quality and unvalid evaluations are mentioned tobe an unclarified data and a lack of (employers') education. In the school the meaning of the personal service is not in a remarkable position as it should be.It seems that a positive attitude to periodic and part-time jobs is more important than the personal service skills. The impression of skills are in a different position in school than in the working life. The reason for this seems to be aminimal cooperation between the school and employers. To improve the situation there should be a system for gathering feedback. Furthermore common events couldhelp the employers to understand the education and its goals on the job learning. In these events employers could give useful feedback to the teachers. This isthe way how the cooperation can improve the situation. Nowadays the feedback isgiven only when there is a non-motivated students involved and if the employershave arranged the job learning badly. The results of this project have been presented on the job learning education in autumn 2006. In this event e.g some suggestions for clarifing and improving the evaluation forms and the criterias of evaluation have been made. The suggested impovements have been forwarded to the school.
