Phoenix Contactin laitteet puolestaan eivät olleet sopivia ongelmallisemman konfigurointinsa vuoksi. This bachelor’s thesis was commissioned by Pemamek Oy. The purpose of the thesis was to study data transfer in general and to map out possible equipment for wireless transmission of the control and security signals of a welding device. The main criteria for the equipment were easy configuration and installation, and it was required to be able to transfer data reliably in challenging conditions.
The first thing to do was to get better understanding of how data transfer works and to find industrial wireless bridge devices that might be usable for this specific case. There was some possible equipment available, and in the end HMS Anybus products Bridge and Bolt were selected. These products were easy to configure, and testing was conducted to determine if they would have the operational reliability to replace existing cabling. Another product tested was WLAN 5100 and 1100 by Phoenix Contact. These devices seemed reliable, but configuration was harder than configuring anybus products
The results from testing the equipment revealed that HMS equipment did not have an operational reliability to work with the intended welding equipment. This was largely due to Anybus products just not being compatible with Pemamek’s equipment, which lead to safety signals dropping without warning. Bridge and Bolt were not compatible with EtherCAT environment, which would have been essential. Phoenix Contact’s WLAN 5100 and 1100 were not chosen due to their more problematic configuration.
