Tiivistelmä
The tendency is that a young talent is exploited too early to specialize and over-ambitious competitions are introduced which focus is more about the winning that often leads to burn-out before senior competitive level rather than optimal training and development. The ulti-mate goal of an athletic career should be mastering the sport consistently, successfully and at senior competition phase. The training programme, the expertise and experience of the coaches, the social life in the club or school and the structure of the competitions will play a big part of children choosing soccer as a lifelong sport.
The objective of this soccer player development model was to highlight the most important components of development that a soccer player needs to develop in order to reach the elite competitive level of soccer. This model does not cover the development of goalkeepers. The model is a tool for coaches and players that want to plan the important early career development.
The development considerations in each four components are explained in more detail. The coach gets the basic fundamentals in coaching priorities to develop technical / motor skill, tactical / cognitive, psychological and physical components. With knowledge of these funda-mentals, the charts development priority phases was created. The charts inform the priorities of development in every age. These charts are needed to accustom to ability level as well.
The soccer player development model is handed to FC Honka academy coaches. The aim is to help the coaches in FC Honka academy to plan, organize and develop players in age appropriate way to give the players the opportunity to reach the elite level in the future.
