The aim of this thesis is to plan a new automation system to a bread slicing machine. The commissioner wishes that the old relay-controlled logic system will be replaced by a programmable logic controller (PLC). The system needs rebuilding because it´s reliability at present is too low and repairing of the machine is difficult due to electrical diagrams that no longer correspond to the construction of the machine. The bread slicer is used for slicing of bakery products as part of production with conveyors. Products are transported in, sliced and transported to a packaging machine. A great part of the machine`s hardware will be reused, as it works well. The machine`s distribution board will be completely rebuilt with a PLC. The distribution board will be planned with the program JCAD Electra, resulting in a plan of the electrical distribution board is more reliable than the old system thanks to the PLC, can easily be expanded by adding expansion units to the PLC and is easier to repair because it is built according to plans.
