In today’s news, environment and the welfare of the society are the concern of many people. Non-profit organizations (NPOs) are those who work to pursue these issues. Therefore, more and more people are taking part in non-profit activities or form a NPO by themselves.
This thesis aims to give a fundamental understanding about non-profit work to interested persons. A legal aspect of non-profit works in Finland and a new model of non-profit organizations are also introduced in the study. Especially, fundraising act is described and explained as well to help findings donors and asking for resources. In addition, a student’s project was introduced and analysed in order to show how a non-profit project was done in reality. The results of the project suggested that time management is important, and one needs to be proactive when asking for donations.
The study has also shown that non-profit work requires the same business skills as for-profit work. Besides, a good knowledge on non-profit laws, relationship management and fundraising act are vital to the successful of a non-profit project.
