This thesis work describes how the short film "Rakkaus on vain sana" was crea- ted. It depicts how the idea for the script was formulated and how the idea was adapted into a screenplay. Additionally it discusses how the actors were acquired for the project and how the directing played out. The actual recording and the post production editing is described with a little more detail. Although this thesis work covers the most central parts of the production, this is not a step by step guide on how to create a short film. The aim of this work is to see what it takes to create a short film alone with a zero budget. What is meant by being alone is that everything apart from the acting was done by one person. The entire process, from script to finished film, took about a year. The finished short film was 19 mi- nutes long. It was sent to the Tampere Film Festival, but it did not qualify to be shown during the festival. The result of this thesis work is that it is entirely pos- sible to create a short film alone, but that in this case, some problems could have been avoided with more detailed planning. Therefore it is recommended that ot- her short film makers invest extra effort in planning.
