The influence optics have on image quality is not always taken into consideration when measuring image quality. This work serves as a review of the aberrations and problems one may encounter in camera optics, as well as a guide to methods one can use in order to avoid these problems, either while shooting or afterwards. The work is aimed at hobby photographers and enthusiasts who want to increase their knowledge in camera optics and learn to identify various aberrations. It shows that there are a number of phenomena and problems affecting the image quality. Many of them have been to some extent corrected by the manufacturer over the years with the help of specific lens elements. Other imaging errors still occurs, and some of them can be solved for example by being aware of the specifications of the lens and the scenes used for shooting. One should also avoid the use of maximum and minimum apertures, as well as the minimum and maximum focal lengths. It is possible to afterwards correct distortion, vignetting and chromatic aberration using Adobe Lightroom 3 or 4, and Adobe Photoshop CS5 and CS6. This work is a litera- ture study with sources from the web. This work does not include algorithms or formulas for the occurrence of aberrations, or technical aspects of the functionality of the lens.
