This thesis is based on what theoretical literature about how the environment can support a child’s development of a new language.
The purpose is to see how the learning environment can support a child with a different mother tongue than Swedish. The literature that was used in the thesis dicusses language, language development and the importance of the enviroment for children with a different mother tongue and cultural background.
To connect to the perspective of the Aland Islands I have used Stakes publication Basic rules for the plan in kindergarten child education (2005) and the publication of the Aland Islands’ local government Grounds for preschool education in child care in the community on the Aland Island (2013). These are the actual guide documents for the subject of the thesis that are used on the Aland Island at this moment.
The questions that the thesis was based on are: What is a language supporting enviroment? How to support children, with a different language background, so they develop a new language?
