This thesis is focused on the challenges we faced during the production of our short-film Den dödes bror. We did not meet the schedule we had planned in the beginning because of various causes that occurred during pre-production. The purpose of my thesis is to identify the problems we encountered and analyse how they affected our process, but also how the short-film process looks in the professional industry. The purpose is to understand how a production is made focusing on the pre-production to avoid mistakes, but it can also be used as a guide for filmmakers that do not have all the required knowledge. In order to achieve results, I have analysed our own production as well as conducted qualitative interviews with four professional producers about their own experiences regarding the short-film process. The most common reason why short-films delay, is because the funding process is difficult to predict in advance. Short-films often suffer if they delay, because they are small projects and eagerness diminishes with time. An optimal process is active and rapid. In order to succeed with productions, you should understand the different production stages, and especially focus on a careful and well-planned pre-production.
