Tiivistelmä
The objective of this study is to improve motivation of the employees in the Service Department. What motivates employees in this century beyond the normal norms of job security and money. The study is based on improving the motivation of the Service Department of Company X. This research was based on the service’s department low score in motivation after the results of the 2012 annual staff survey. The research aims to find out the cause(s) for the low motivation and also find a solution that can increase the level of motivation in the department.
The thesis was carried out using qualitative research methods. Data input was gathered from 20 the Service Department employees. A method known as AI was used in the research to conduct and analyse the interviews. AI’s approach focuses on what is working instead of what is not working (i.e. positive focus instead of negative focus). AI 4-D model was also used during the research.
The research findings suggested that employee motivation is a two way street, both the employee and the employer must work together. The findings also showed that job satisfaction is one of the major reasons for motivation and that employers cannot gurantee employees 100% motivation.
