Tiivistelmä
This Bachelor’s thesis introduces the modern methods of improving web usability and user experience. The study examines the basic principles, the laws and rules of usability, the latest tendencies and research in usability and user experience. The most important elements are considered: colors, text, navigation, placement of the elements.
The purpose of the thesis was to research and improve the existing website, Kaduilla.fi, according to the latest tendencies of web usability and research into user experience. Kaduilla.fi is a local Turku blog portal, where different people write about their lives and different events in Turku. The website is used for marketing: the owners cooperate with cafes, shops or beauty centers.
A questionnaire was used to collect the users’ opinions on the initial design of the website and to identify the most of the disadvantages of the blog portal: weak navigation, a lot of empty space on the page, lack of information.
The improvements were implemented based on the results of the survey. A second survey was conducted in order to compare the results and confirm the positive development of the website. The outcome of the development of Kaduilla.fi was the increased amount of traffic and the higher interest in cooperation.
