The aim of this thesis was to study how Finland can use the international civil protection modules and experts in supporting regional fire service in arduous accidents and make an operations model. Another aim of this thesis was to find solutions for alarm controlling, logistics and issues of insurances. Additionally, an issue of interest was the training system of civil protection. This thesis was commissioned by the Ministry of Ministry of the Interior, Unit for International Affairs of Rescue Services. The main approach method of this thesis was a case study. In this thesis data was mainly collected by expert interviews, enquiry and document analysis. All data was processed by analysis of contents and quantitative methods. The results of this study showed the necessity of special rescue resources in arduous accidents in Finland. Using rescue modules in arduous accidents requires a functional system for alarming, logistics, insurances and training. The main conclusions were that international rescue efforts should be seen more as national contingency planning of rescue services. All regional rescue services should be contributed in action by agreement. The Crisis Management Centre has suitable system for alarming and it could be used for alarming in arduous accidents. Transportation inside Finland should primarily be done by road traffic. All expenses should be shared between the requesting rescue department and the Government of the Finland. The training system and special equipment could be used as a part of internal training of rescue departments....

The aim of the development project studied in this thesis is to create an operational programme for Savo Consortium for Education. At the moment, the consortium does not have a separate operational programme for adult education. It is currently a part of the regional impact programme. The role of adult education is expected to grow substantially in the future within the consortium. The objective is to make adult education, training and their development an integral part of the operative and strategic functions of the consortum. Development of adult education is one of the strategic challenges in Savo Consortium of Education and a means of participating in building welfare in the rapidly changing society. The study consists of a theoretical part, describing the operating environment, and an empir-ical part. The main objective of my thesis was to study how the ERP SAP competences have been improved among the teaching personnel in the Centre of Business Administration and Engineering of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Another objective was to find out how these competences match with the needs of external clients. Yet another aim was to study those methods that the teachers consider the best ways to develop the ERP SAP competences. The opinions of external clients were also considered. The results indicate that the ERP SAP needs of working life have not been anticipated sufficiently. The ERP SAP competences are highly valued among trainees and graduated Bachelors of Business Administration and Engineering. The competence needs focus on financial administration and information technology. The essential finding of this thesis relates to the missing concept or model of the ERP SAP. The teachers consider the best ways to increase competences as follows: collegial common planning, utilisation of a competence, possibility to practice in a secure learning environment, common materials, internal and external SAP trainings, working life and SAP network co-operation, and SAP support. A part of the external clients are interested in collaboration to develop the competences. A new concept or model of the ERP SAP would function as a gathering method of development for all parties involved....

The topic of this thesis is development and management of overall equipment efficiency in cuvette production. This study had two major purposes: to develop an overall equipment efficiency in cuvette production in Thermo Fisher Scientific Oy Joensuu plant and to study the factors of overall equipment efficiency and create a model for developing and managing it. The study was conducted as an action research and the own continuous improvement methods of Thermo Fisher Scientific were used in development projects. The first step was to create an indicator for measuring overall equipment efficiency and the selection of the development projects was based on indicator data. The research part of study was based on the literature review and the practical experiences of development projects. As a result of the development, an overall equipment efficiency in cuvette production increased more than 10 % compared to the starting point. In the research part, the components of overall equipment efficiency and the factors behind it were visualized. Based on this visualization, the simple continuous improvement model of overall equipment efficiency was created. The measuring and development model created in this thesis helps to understand what the overall equipment efficiency is in practice. Based on this model, the cuvette production or other departments in Joensuu plant can be developed further in the future....

Osaamisen johtaminen – case Juuan tekninen palvelualue

Juuan teknisellä palvelualueella on käynnistetty vaiheittain toteutettava organisaatiouudistus. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on selvittää, millaisen koulutuksen ja työkokemuksen omaavia henkilöitä on rekrytoitava eläköityvien työntekijöiden tilalle, kun palvelualue siirtyy kohti uutta organisaatiomallia.
Opinnäytetyön tutkimuksen perustana on kvalitatiivinen tutkimus, jonka tiedonhankintamenetelmänä käytettiin henkilökunnalle suunnattua puolistrukturoitua teemahaastattelua.
Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin palvelualueen henkilöstön nykyisen osaamisen kehittämistä ja hiljaisen tiedon siirtämistä, sekä etsittiin keinoja joiden avulla ikääntyvän työyhteisön työssä jaksaminen ja työhyvinvointi turvataan.
Opinnäytetyössä havaittiin, että tarve strategiselle henkilöstöjohtamiselle on ikääntyvässä työyhteisössä merkittävä. Tutkimuksen perusteella esitetään, että palvelualueen strategisen henkilöstösuunnittelun perustaksi laaditaan osaamiskartoitus, jonka avulla organisaation osaaminen, sekä osaamistarpeet ovat helpommin määriteltävissä. Osaamiskartoituksen avulla hiljaisen tiedon näkyväksi tekeminen sekä rekrytointitarpeiden määritteleminen helpottuvat. Jatkokehittämistyönä esitetään, että tekniselle palvelualueelle laaditaan henkilöstöstrategia, joka antaa suuntaviivat palvelualueen henkilöstösuunnittelun periaatteille, sekä päivittäiselle henkilöstöjohtamiselle....

There are twenty hospital districts in Finland. In our country central hospitals were constructed most-ly during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Because of outdated and impractical facilities and developing treat-ment processes there is a need for the construction of new facilities and renovating the old ones. The aim of this study was to survey the problems and their incidence concerning the HVAC-building Services Engineering during the planning, construction and receiving processes in different hospitals in Finland. The major objective of this study was to present improvements to the management of the process of building services and the present practices so that the construction process would be as trouble-free as possible and the new facilities would satisfy the requirements of the users. The study was made in all hospital districts in Finland excluding the North Karelia district. The study was qualitative by nature. The data was collected through on-line inquiry and by interviewing the respondents by telephone. It was found that the most problematic part of the HVAC-building services during construction process was the planning. The plans sent in contract calculation were very often unaudited and they were very rarely or never perfect. The biggest problem during the receiving process was the delay of the construction project from the scheduled timetable. During the renovation of building services good management meant caring for the safety of patients. These results suggest that in order to achieve good results in building the hospitals you have to allo-cate more time for planning, construction and the receiving processes. It would be necessary to create an electrical database where you can accumulate the instructions for HPAC-building services....

It was found out the thesis opportunity to include environmental accounting as tools for construction management. The aim of the thesis is to promote the use of the environmental friendly materials in the construction. In this thesis overview is made in environmental accounting and in different types of cost accounting applications. On the basis of these is considered what condi-tions there is for system integration. The important of aspect is the availability of the environmental information in all stages from designing of the building to its demolition. At the moment the calculations of the construction project are made afterwards in the environmental accounting and they don’t have any impact on the implementation of the construction project itself. The environmental information related materials are scattered and using of them requires expertise, which is not part of the designers’ education. As a result of this produced environmental information from the buildings is selective and described examples of the cases are difficult to be utilized. In the future there is the need to develop an open, at the different stages of the construction project cost calculation of exploitable and BIM-based model for inte-grated environmental information system. It should cover, in addition to the open environment of the database the calculation tools, which can be exploited at every stage of the building project....

This thesis is made in co-operation with the North Karelia Vocational College’s Technology and Culture training programs. The aim of this study was to examine the staff's view on the entire knowledge-mapping process: How do employees feel that they learn something new, with what measures learning is considered most successful and how the effectiveness of learning shows in their own work. The study was conducted by a qualitative research approach, in which the quantitative questionnaire survey method was used to study the whole staff’s opinions on survey themes. Theme interviews clarified the matter and were used to find the answers for the research questions. As a result can be stated that knowledge surveys have been carried out, but the infor-mation is left unexploited. Their completion, however, was felt to be important. In professional expertise development external trainings were considered the most important because of their targeting. One must be able to use new information in work in order to be able to really internalize the information. Based on research data, adaptation of a wider knowledge mapping system is recom-mended so that the existing know-how can be better utilized and used as a support in the recruiting process. Teams must improve their internal processes to enable a wider range of learning as the education and work-week jobs are selected in accordance to the team's needs. By using more efficient discussion within a team they could develop into self-guided working units....
