This thesis is about the development possibilities of competence in network communication and competence management of network communication in Universities of Applied Sciences in Eastern Finland. The thesis was commissioned by Karelia University of Applied Sciences. The main target of study was public network communication like social media of personnel of Karelia University of Applied Sciences and Savonia University of Applied Sciences. Public network communication like social media is commonly used by personnel of universities, but usually there is only minor support and guidance available provided by the organisation. It is common that personnel mix work-related and personal communication and do not follow much guidelines neither do careful planning when communicating online. The variation of communication competence management and also the variation of usage of online networks is significant. This thesis was carried out by using action research approach. Interview and workshop were chosen as research methods. The results indicate that competence management of network communication should be more formal and advanced. The primary goal of development is to gather data about network communication behaviour of personnel and formulate measures to develop the competence of network communication by using the gathered data. These measures should concentrate on sharing tacit knowledge and formulating best practices. This thesis offers solutions to carrying out these measures. Qualitative research of efficient and beneficial practices of sharing network communication knowledge could be an advantageous direction for further studies....

The goal of this thesis was to develop a solution selling process and a process model that creates value for the customer and Mediconsult Oy. The operational model brings the customer need, desire and feedback to Mediconsult's product development. The aim was to integrate the customer's need and desire more and more effectively in product development and to provide a more customer-oriented solution. This study was carried out as an action research. The methods used in data collection were qualitative: inquiry, group interviews, participating observation and document analysis. The theoretical basis for this study was established by studying the domestic and foreign topic-related source theories. The theories generally considered research and development, business development, solution selling and value creation. As a result of this development project, a solution-oriented operational model was created, which includes the sales process, solution focused approach and the value creation approach. The operational model was tested, and put into practice at the same time. The model was confirmed in the spring of 2013. The goals of the thesis were successfully achieved. Turnover benefits can be estimated in the long term. For the further development projects were identified, among other things, customer relationship management, customer data management, productization and offer treatment, key meters and skills development....

The aim of this thesis was to identify potential areas of development needs of heritage sites in the internal company guidelines, communications and communication tools of Stora Enso Forest. The scope of this thesis is to study the communications and guidelines, and communication tools within the company and between the company and subcontractors. This thesis examines the functionality and standard of IT tools communications and co-operation practices of Stora Enso and the significance of specialist co-operation between the company and The National Board of Antiquities, from the point of view of procurement managers. The focus is on the local level, as the study compares the procedures between different areas. This thesis describes the current state of communications and company guidelines. By means of a survey, the study identified the weaknesses of the current procedures and communication tools and examined what possible potential the current practices manifest. The results indicate that procurement managers felt that the current communication tools were not adequate, and they found available information about specific heritage sites difficult to find. Because of various subcontracting schemes, significant differences were found in both internal communications and communications between interest groups. The findings of this thesis show that the company guidelines need to be consistent and more readily accessible to procurement managers. The need for practical training is apparent. Professional co-operation should also be developed further, and IT tools should be improved in the way that procurement managers can easily perceive and communicate important information both on the map and in writing....

Opinnäytetyön aiheena on yrityksen kilpailustrategian uudistaminen ja luominen. Työn tavoitteena on luoda tietoperusta ja suunnitelma yrityksen kilpailustrategian uudistamiseksi.
Kilpailustrategiassa käsitellään avainosaamisia ja teknologioita, verkostoja sekä kilpailuetuja teknologiastrategian perusperiaatteiden mukaisesti. Kehittämismenetelmät ovat tapaustutkimus sekä ennakointi. Tiedonhankinnan menetelminä käytetään dokumenttianalyysiä, benchmarking menetelmää sekä SWOT -analyysiä. Työssä käsitellään liiketoiminnan nykytilaa, ydinosaamisia ja avainteknologioita sekä strategisia liiketoiminta-alueita, taloudellista tilaa, kilpailijoita ja markkinoita.
Työn tuloksena esitetty kilpailustrategian kehittämissuunnitelma pitää sisällään toimintaympäristöön, osaamisen ja teknologioihin, verkostoitumiseen sekä ydinosaamisiin ja strategisiin liiketoiminta-alueisiin liittyviä kehittämistoimenpiteitä. Kilpailustrategian avainteknologian valinnassa on huomioitava sekä sisäiset että ulkoiset tekijät. This thesis discusses bidding competition of distribution network projects from the con-tractor’s point of view. Distribution network jobs have been moved more often to target-specific bidding competition. From the contractor’s perspective target-specific bidding competition means that the costs of providing the services are identified and cost effects noticed in project quote calculation. From the client’s perspective target-specific bidding tries to keep the service costs of distribution networks under control. The aim of the thesis was to study and compare the suitability of three quote calculation programs to the company needs. The study was to find out the present state of quote calculation and suggest development targets. The result of this thesis present two development targets which can be developed into company quote calculation. The company should acquire quote calculation software, which can make the quote calculation. By acquiring and commissioning quote calculation software, the company ensures cost-based pricing, which minimizes pricing risks. The aim of this thesis was to study how Finland can use the international civil protection modules and experts in supporting regional fire service in arduous accidents and make an operations model. Another aim of this thesis was to find solutions for alarm controlling, logistics and issues of insurances. Additionally, an issue of interest was the training system of civil protection. This thesis was commissioned by the Ministry of Ministry of the Interior, Unit for International Affairs of Rescue Services. The main approach method of this thesis was a case study. In this thesis data was mainly collected by expert interviews, enquiry and document analysis. All data was processed by analysis of contents and quantitative methods. The results of this study showed the necessity of special rescue resources in arduous accidents in Finland. Using rescue modules in arduous accidents requires a functional system for alarming, logistics, insurances and training. The main conclusions were that international rescue efforts should be seen more as national contingency planning of rescue services. All regional rescue services should be contributed in action by agreement. The Crisis Management Centre has suitable system for alarming and it could be used for alarming in arduous accidents. Transportation inside Finland should primarily be done by road traffic. All expenses should be shared between the requesting rescue department and the Government of the Finland. The training system and special equipment could be used as a part of internal training of rescue departments....

The aim of the development project studied in this thesis is to create an operational programme for Savo Consortium for Education. At the moment, the consortium does not have a separate operational programme for adult education. It is currently a part of the regional impact programme. The role of adult education is expected to grow substantially in the future within the consortium. The objective is to make adult education, training and their development an integral part of the operative and strategic functions of the consortum. Development of adult education is one of the strategic challenges in Savo Consortium of Education and a means of participating in building welfare in the rapidly changing society. The study consists of a theoretical part, describing the operating environment, and an empir-ical part. In the empirical part, I use various qualitative methods were used, such as interviews and participant observation. As an end result of the development, the consortium will receive a proposal for an operational programme for adult education that supports its business strategy. The main objective of my thesis was to study how the ERP SAP competences have been improved among the teaching personnel in the Centre of Business Administration and Engineering of North Karelia University of Applied Sciences. Another objective was to find out how these competences match with the needs of external clients. Yet another aim was to study those methods that the teachers consider the best ways to develop the ERP SAP competences. The opinions of external clients were also considered. The results indicate that the ERP SAP needs of working life have not been anticipated sufficiently. The ERP SAP competences are highly valued among trainees and graduated Bachelors of Business Administration and Engineering. The competence needs focus on financial administration and information technology. The essential finding of this thesis relates to the missing concept or model of the ERP SAP. The teachers consider the best ways to increase competences as follows: collegial common planning, utilisation of a competence, possibility to practice in a secure learning environment, common materials, internal and external SAP trainings, working life and SAP network co-operation, and SAP support. A part of the external clients are interested in collaboration to develop the competences.
