Experiencing loneliness is a big and difficult problem for many senior citizens. It causes health problems and increases the need for services. It is important for older people, the communities they encounter and society as a whole that the lonely could be reached and their social networks and inclusion could be strengthened. The perspective of the thesis was a male-focused special work. The purpose of the thesis was to develop ways of reaching and involving lonely older men aged 65 and over. The objective of the thesis was to create a strategy based on the user information that helps to identify loneliness and strengthen people's social network and inclusion. The thesis was implemented in the IKAROS project managed by the commissioning organisation. Lonely men who participated in the project were involved in generating user information. They ranged in age from 65 to 90. The acquisition of information was based on the use of a service design method. The reasons for loneliness and the factors that prevent them emerged in the study, as well as how non-governmental organisations can prevent loneliness. The created strategy can be used in organizational activities to reach lonely older men. In the future, one could study the experiences of loneliness in older women and the meanings that older men attach to loneliness work....

Participation can be said to be both civil and human right. Nevertheless, there is still much to be done to improve the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities. The idea for this thesis emerged from the law reform which was prepared in the autumn of 2018. One aim of the reform was to develop the participation of the people with disabilities in services targeted for the developmentally disabled. This thesis was implemented at Kuusikumpu, which is a service housing unit with 24-hour assistance for developmentally disabled people. The purpose of this thesis was to improve the participation of the residents with developmental disabilities in the housing unit. The aim was to explore how the residents and the staff experience the realisation of participation in the housing unit and draw up a strategy for the unit to promote resident participation. The applied development model was that of Tavoitetähtityöskentely. The methods used in the study were structured interviews for the residents and participatory workshops for the staff. The findings revealed that interaction, communality and inclusion are key factors that support participation. The action plan includes measures to support these aspects of participation in the housing unit. The role of the supervisor in this change process is particularly emphasized as the supervisor ensures well-being at work, enables the change, motivates the staff and provides feedback....

Abstract The Finnish social and health service system is in undergoing the biggest change in its history. The long preparatory work for Sote (social and health services) is currently on a pause. In the preparation of the change, leadership is emphasized, and new requirements are also set for local supervisors. Change is successful when the staff understands the need for a change and commits and adapts to it. Well-being at work, open and active communication, and staff involvement in the planning and implementation of the change facilitate commitment to it and its implementation of it. In every organization the mission of communication should be communication belongs to everyone. It requires us to develop new communications skills that consist of speaking, writing, interacting and digital skills. It also requires knowledge and understanding of different communication cultures. The purpose of this thesis was to explore the employees' experiences of change management and communications in the Siun sote organization in 2018, and to create new tools for developing change management and communications in the Siun sote organization. A qualitative research method was used in this thesis. Inductive content analysis was used to analyse the research material. A virtual development environment for supervisors was used as a functional method. As a product of the development environment, new ways to develop change management and communications were created. These include, but are not limited to, justifying the change, engaging the staff in the planning of the change and developing communications....
