The purpose of the thesis was to clarify, how the personnel of JST Solum Oy experience organizational communications of company. The purpose was, also to clarify, what kind of influence do organizational communications have on the job satisfying of personnel. The thesis tried to figure out, which are the main communication ways for the personnel to search for information related to their work. The thesis tried also to find out how the personnel experiences the situation of organizational communication and how do organizational communications affect the job satisfaction. JST Solum Oy is a company from Jyväskylä, which offers adult psychiatric services. JST Solum Oy has 40 employees in four housing units. The author of the thesis has completed a practical training in the company during the studies. During practical training JST Solum asked the author to make a thesis for the company. The theoretical framework deals with organizational communication and how organizational communications affect job satisfaction. The part that deals with organizational communication focuses on the flow of information. Well-being at work is written from the point of view of job satisfaction. The research method of the thesis is qualitative. A survey was compiled based on the theoretical framework. The survey was implemented on a website called “kyselynetti.com”. The link to the survey was sent to the personnel by e-mail in January, 2018. The personnel had two weeks to reply the survey. 14 of 40 employees replied the survey, making the response rate was 35 percent. The results of the survey were similar to researches used in the theoretical framework of this thesis. The personnel of JST Solum Oy were mostly satisfied with the organizational communications. The results state that the most important ways for the personnel to get information were e-mail, supervisor and co-workers. The e-mail and supervisor were also the most wanted ways to get information. The role of the supervisor was considered important. The biggest problems with organizational communications were the big amount of communication ways, confusion and the necessity of information. It was hoped that there would be only one place to find all necessary information. That place should not be e-mail. By personnel, the organizational communications have mostly a positive impact on job satisfaction. Lack of knowledge, confusions and clarifying information decreased job satisfaction. As a future research topic, the same survey could be done for the management and supervisors of JST Solum Oy to find out the differences in opinions. In the future an own organizational communication model could be created for JST Solum Oy to clarify the way organizational communication works....

The purpose of this thesis was to find out which factors promote nurses’ mental wellbeing in the palliative unit. This thesis is a narrative literature review, which helps Katriina’s Hospital Department 5 nurses to support their own mental wellbeing at work. The thesis was carried out in cooperation with Katriina’s Hospital Department 5. The unit is located in Vantaa and it specialises in palliative care and symptomatic treatments of serious illnesses. The subject of this thesis was chosen according to the needs of the department. The theoretical framework discusses palliative care, wellbeing at work, and mental wellbeing at work. The research data of the thesis was collected from various databases, e.g. PsycINFO, Medic, PUBMED, PROQUEST and Google. Used terms were: hospital nurse, palliative nursing, mental wellbeing at work. The annual limit was set for 2008-2018. The database of the thesis was selected as eight different publications, seven in English and one in Finnish. The material was analysed by content analysis, through which the results were summarized. The results of the studies show that the support from the family and co-workers contribute to the nurses’ mental wellbeing at work. Support was experienced as the most important factor in promoting personal wellbeing at work. Discussions with an outsider were also experienced as promoting the wellbeing. Several studies emphasised the importance of education, new employee induction and professional counselling. The handling of personal feelings and the nurses’ natural attitude towards fatalities could be considered as a resource at work. The use of free time was seen as a major factor affecting wellbeing at work, healthy life habits supported the nurses’ mental health at work. The studies have shown that nurses’ rewarding work and understanding their own professional boundaries and respecting them can be considered as factors that contribute to the mental health of nurses. As a further research topic, it would be useful to study how to support the nurses' mental wellbeing at work in Finland, for example based on interviews.
