Staff handbook to help with the monitoring of holistic rehabilitation of mentally ill clients in Palvelukoti Huvikumpu This thesis was based upon a request by Palvelukoti Huvikumpu to create a staff handbook which will help with the monitoring of holistic rehabilitation of mentally ill clients. Current treatments tend to concentrate on the treating and monitoring of the changes in physical health, whereas holistic monitoring and the treatment of somatic symptoms are often given less attention. The handbook will help to develop holistic client care, rehabilitation and monitoring. The data was collected in discussions with staff members on several occasions in order to map holistic client care. Information was collected from professional literature and from consultants who work amongst the client group. The aim of this thesis was to learn to know the basic components of wellbeing. The results showed the importance of holistic monitoring of wellbeing and the shortcomings of current practises. The monitoring of somatic and psychosomatic symptoms of mentally ill clients was often considered due to the fact that the clients did not recognize the symptoms in themselves. Furthermore clients could develop a negative attitude towards treatment and easily show new somatic symptoms. Whether symptoms were somatic or a delusory was often difficult to tell. The symptoms should be acted on even when they are a product of imagination or an attempt to seek attention. The client may find it difficult to listen to his/her body and a heightened pain threshold may inhibit the interpretation of signs. The irrationality of the signs and lack of verbal communication by the client make it more difficult for staff to read the signs. This thesis was functional. It incluves a full account of why and how it was made, what the authors did, what kind of process it was and what kind of results were achieved. It also includes a handbook, which consists of an informative part, health care form and following up form. The informative part includes texts from the thesis. The health care form includes the most important issues a mentalhealth have. The following up form includes important points such as weigh and laboratory test results....
