Guiding the preschool children into a more cardio healthy life This thesis is a part of the project "Child’s and Youth’s Good Daily Routine". The purpose was to make a brochure about the cardio healthy life of the preschool children. The brochure was planned to give information about the significance of healthy nutrition, exercise and relaxation and to help the parents to achieve a more cardio healthy life. The aim was also to give support guidelines to the staff of day-care centers and playschools and child health clinics. The result of the thesis was this brochure about guiding preschool children to more cardio healthy life. The idea for this thesis stemmed from a finished project called "Guiding children to more cardio-healthy life in the playschool of Kenttäkatu in Hyvinkää". The thesis was practise-based because the goal was to make a brochure based on a theory. The procedure for this thesis was the mapping interviews of the people in playschools of Viertola, Punaoja and Kenttäkatu. The ideas which came up in the interviews were most useful for the theory on which the thesis was based. The theory part was gathered from reliable sources. The literal portion focused in cardio health, healthy nutrition, exercise and relaxation. The objective for this brochure was to answer the questions which were brought up in the interviews of the playschool staff about guiding preschool children in more cardio-healthy life styles. The goal was also to make the parents think about healthier living habits. The progress of heart and veneral diseases begins early in childhood. In the later years the outbreak of diseases is affected by genes, living habits of the mother during pregnancy and the living habits of the child and environmental factors such as breast feeding, nutrition, exercise and excess weight. Today it is still unknown which hereditary factors increases the risk of developing a heart disease. Because of this it is extremely important to try to prevent children’s overweight and obesity. After creating the theoretical part the compiling of the brochure begun. The most essentials points of the theory was selected for the brochure. The brochure was made in phases by designing, editing and reevaluating the material. The completed brochure became useful in guiding situations and it could be delivered to parents so they could get familiar with it in their own homes. As a further plan it might be possible to develop guiding for special groups such as allergic children and families to healthier life styles....

Drug Prevention Lessons at Martinlaakso School This thesis is a part of the Koulut yhteistyökumppaneina -project. The active part of the thesis was held in the form of health education lessons and it took place in Martinlaakso Junior High School. The targetgroup for this thesis were 8th graders. The health education lessons consisted of information about drugs and the disadvantages related to them. Usually adolescents get their first experiences with drugs at a pretty young age and that is why the preventive work focused on adolescents is so important. The main goal of this thesis was to get the young people think about drug using and think about their own attitude against drugs. The active part of the thesis was arranged in March 2008 and the content of the health education lessons was limited in alcohol. The lessons dealt with topics such as refusal from alcohol, students' attitude and their own willing against alcohol. The lessons were realized using computers and Internet. During the lessons the students were advised to do assignments. The assingments were reviewed among the whole group at the end of every lesson. After the lessons the students filled out a feedback questionnaire which helped to evaluate the realization and the impressiveness of the lessons. On ground of the feedback can be told that at least some of the students got some new information about alcohol and the disadvantages of it. Also some new thoughts about students' own attitudes against alcohol could be noticed. So all in all, the goals of the thesis were achieved. One of the goals of The Quality Recommendation for School Health Care in Finland is to increase adolescents's knowlegde about health. Health education is one of the subjects taught at schools nowadays. The main topics of health education are alcohol and other drugs and the choices young people make considering drugs. So it is really important for students to know about the disadvantages of drugs and know how to avoid different kinds of substances. They should also know the causes and consequences of drug using. According to the National Cyllabus health education as a school subject is student-oriented and supports students' participation and activeness. During the 21st century the alcohol using habits of young people have not changed much. Every one of five 8th and 9th graders gets himself or herself drunk at least once a month. Some of young people think alcohol using is a part of healthy youth. They think they can handle their drug using and claim that using alcohol is not a problem for them. Kouluterveydenhoitaja lasten ja nuorten syömishäiriöiden ennaltaehkäisijänä, varhaisena havaitsijana ja hoitajana

Opinnäytetyöni tarkoituksena oli kuvata kouluterveydenhoitajan kokemuksia lasten ja nuorten syömishäiriöiden ennaltaehkäisystä, havaitsemisesta ja hoitamisesta. Tavoitteena oli tuottaa tietoa, jonka avulla kouluterveydenhoitajat voivat entistä paremmin olla tietoisia roolistaan ja merkityksestään taistelussa syömishäiriöitä vastaan. Tavoitteena oli tuoda erityisesti vastavalmistuneille terveydenhoitajille tietoutta preventiivisestä työstä syömishäiriöiden parissa.
Opinnäytetyön empiirinen osuus toteutettiin yhden kaupungin alueella ja aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla kolmea kokenutta kouluterveydenhoitajaa. Haastattelut käytiin keskustelunomaisesti valittujen teemojen alueilta. Jokainen haastattelu nauhoitettiin ja litteroitiin sana sanalta. Aineiston käsittelyssä keskityttiin laadulliseen luokitteluun.
Tutkimustuloksissa ilmeni terveydenhoitajien selvä huoli kouluikäisten syömishäiriöiden yleisyydestä ja myös yleistymisestä. Syömishäiriöt koettiin vakavaksi ongelmaksi erityisesti yläaste- ja lukioikäisillä tytöillä. Terveydenhoitajat olivat erityisen huolissaan lapsista ja nuorista, joilla on huono itsetunto, mielialaongelmia tai vahva perfektionisti-luonne. Syömishäiriöt koettiin myös yleisemmiksi kouluissa, joihin korkeampien keskiarvorajojen mukaan hakeutuu usein tavoitteellisempia ja kunnianhimoisempia oppilaita.
Kouluterveydenhoitajat tiedostivat työnsä keskeisen merkityksen syömishäiriöiden ennaltaehkäisyssä, varhaisessa havaitsemisessa ja hoidossa. Tärkeimmäksi välineeksi tässä työssä he kokivat yksimielisesti kahdenkeskeiset terveystapaamiset oppilaan kanssa: mittaukset, kes-kustelut ja kontrolloinnit. Tapaamisissa annetun terveyskasvatuksen koettiin osaltaan toimivan syömishäiriöitä ennaltaehkäisten. Sairauksien hoidon kohdalla korostui varhaisen hoitoonohjauksen merkitys sekä avoin keskustelu, kuuntelu ja kannustaminen.
Terveydenhoitajat kokivat työn syömishäiriöiden parissa haasteelliseksi ja vaativaksi. Syömishäiriöt koettiin moniselitteiseksi sairausryhmäksi ja niiden varhainen havaitseminen vaatii monen palapelin palasen loksahtamista paikalleen. Työtään tukeviksi tekijöiksi terveydenhoitajat listasivat oman ammattitaidon, kokemuksen ja moniammatillisen yhteistyön. Heikentäväksi tekijöiksi mainittiin vähäiset resurssit ja tarkastukset, puutteellinen koulutus, työn autonomisuus ja tiukka vaitiolovelvollisuus. Terveydenhoitajat toivoivatkin, että näistä sairauksista järjestettäisiin enemmän ja säännöllisemmin koulutusta, jotta hoitopolut ja – käytännöt selkenisivät ja yhtenäistyisivät. He toivoivat myös lisää yhteistyötä eri ammattiryhmien välillä sekä erityisesti yläasteikäisille kaksi terveystarkastusta vuodessa.
Tämän opinnäytetyön tulosten toivon syventävän terveydenhoitajien tietoutta syömishäiriöitä ennaltaehkäisevästä työstä. Tavoitteena on antaa varsinkin vastavalmistuville terveydenhoitajille vahvuuksia toimia preventiivisessä työssä syömishäiriöiden parissa. Jatkossa aihetta tulisi lähemmin tutkia koululaisten näkökulmasta haastattelemalla heitä syömishäiriöihin liittyvistä seikoista....

Laurea University of Applied Sciences Abstract Laurea Lohja Degree Programme in Nursing Nurse Nieminen Sarina and Räty Sarianna Charting the realization of medication in Mäntynummi home care Year 2009 The number of pages 56 This thesis is the report of the students - of Laurea University of Applied Sciences - who operated in the project “Safe Medication 2.” The theoretical basis of the project was the guide book “Safe Medication” of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health. The intention of the guide book “Safe Medication” is to integrate the principles of realizing the medication, to clarify sharing of responsibility and to define the minimum demands in realizing the medication in different units. The target of the project was to integrate conventions in realizing the medication in Mäntynummi home care unit in Lohja. Dissemination was used as the method of development process. In this method some new information is produced in comparison with tacit practical knowledge, examined knowledge and theoretical knowledge. The description of present based on the thematic group interview was composed as a target of the team. Three representatives from Mäntynummi home care participated in the interview. The interview was recorded, transcribed and classified with the help of the analysis of the content. The herringbone pattern description of present was composed based on that. The herringbone pattern was edited further at department meetings with students attending. The target of improvement discovered was divergence reports. The medication in Mäntynummi home care comprehends the realization of medication, measuring into doses and distribution of medicines. The double revision system is not in use in Mäntynummi home care. This increases the possibility that divergences of medication emerge. The notification form of divergences of medication is available in Mäntynummi home care. However, it is not used – according to working life representatives - even if divergences are noticed. Possible education needs are not revealed, for statistics do not show divergence reports which do not exist. The work community used the evaluation form in evaluation of the team. Based on the answers, the change and practical benefits brought by the development project were significant or somewhat improved, except according to one answerer who did not see benefits at all. According to the answerers, the practical development has somewhat or not at all improved the fluency and efficiency in medication.
