Laurea University of Applied Sciences Abstract Laurea Lohja Nursing Pasi Kuusinen Jaana Sohlman Planning and implementation of first aid training for teachers at Maksjoki School and providing training material for Terveystori Health Services Year 2009 Pages 47 The aim of this paper was to plan and implement first aid training for teachers at Maksjoki comprehensive school. The slide show made from this training may be used by other students at Laurea as tutorial material via Terveystori, when they give first aid training in workplaces or for other groups. Regarding the practical arrangements of the first aid training, an agreement was made with the principal of Maksjoki school and The Laurea University of Applied Sciences Lohja branch. The first aid training was held at Maksjoki school on two concurrent Thursday afternoons in March 2009. The subject of the first course day was resuscitation of children and adults, which was presented in a slide show and as practical exercises. The subjects of the second course day were symptoms of and first aid for children with diabetes or epilepsy, as well as how to help an unconscious person, turning her in recovery position on one side (lateral recumbent position) and securing her breathing. Other subjects dealt with in the training were first aid in cases of bleeding or sprain. First aid is frequently needed for these problems, and skills to deal with them should therefore be taught in all first aid training. At the end of the first aid training, an enquiry form was given to be filled out by the participants. The form included questions about theory, practical exercises and the participants’ expectations of the course. According to the results received, the general evaluation of the first aid training was good. The participants answered having received many-sided information about things that may occur during a school day. They also felt that the training included enough practical exercises. As the number of participants was small, they had the opportunity to discuss all questions in a relaxed way. The slide show we made is a very good basic material for training in other workplaces. The Finnish Current Care Guidelines concerning topics included in training should always be checked before the training. In future, this paper can be used as help by students at Laurea University of Applied Sciences as well as others who arrange first aid training, in order to clarify planning, organising and implementation of training. At the school, we will leave our written paper and material that the teachers may use to revise their first aid skills at Maksjoki comprehensive school. Suomessa mielenterveyspotilaan suun terveydestä löytyy vähän tutkimuksia. On kuitenkin tutkittu, kuinka psykiatrisissa sairaaloissa on toteutettu mielenterveyspotilaiden suun hoitoa. Tutkittua tietoa ei löydy mielenterveyskuntoutujan suun terveydestä, mutta tutkimusta toteutetaan tällä hetkellä Vantaan ja Keravan seudulla, jolloin Suomeen saadaan tutkimustietoa mielenterveyskuntoutujien suun hoidosta. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on tuottaa mielenterveyskuntoutujille esite suun terveydenhoidosta. Esitteen potilasohjeen tarkoituksena on helpottaa hoitajan ja mielenterveyskuntoutujan perehtymistä kuvien avulla suun terveydenhoitoon. Suun terveys on pieni, mutta tärkeä asia, ja se vaikuttaa mielenterveyskuntoutujan hyvinvointiin, eikä myöskään voida vähätellä sen kustannusvaikutuksia pitkällä tähtäimellä. Onnistunut ohjaus asettaa vaatimuksia sekä hoitajalle että potilaalle. Ensisijaisia vaatimuksia ovat hyvä yhteistyökyky ja molempien osapuolten aktiivisuus. Hoitajan on kuitenkin muistettava, että potilaalla on aina oikeus esittää omia mielipiteitä ja tehdä itsenäisiä päätöksiä. Jo laki potilaan asemasta ja oikeuksista velvoittaa siihen. Mielenterveyskuntoutuja on aikaisemmin sairastanut joko lievemmän tai vaikeamman mielenterveyden häiriön, josta hän on kuntoutumassa. Psyykkiset sairaudet ovat oireiltaan hyvin erilaisia ja miten tärkeänä potilas näkee suun terveydenhoidon, on usein hoitajalle haasteellista. Tässä työssä tuon esiin suun terveyteen vaikuttavia asioita: hammassairaudet, ruokavalio, tupakointi ja lääkkeet, nimenomaan psyyken lääkkeet. Teoreettisen viitekehyksen pohjalta syntyy potilasesite, joka käsittelee oikeaoppisen hampaiden pesun ja suuhun kohdistuvista haitoista. Esitteessä kuvataan haittojen yleisimmät oireet, ja autetaan ennaltaehkäisemään niitä. Potilasesite annetaan Porvoossa toimivan mielenterveyskuntoutujille tarkoitetulle asuntolaan Tellervokotiin. The present state of medicinal treatment in Virkkala home care The thesis is part of the development project within Laurea University of Applied Sciences for a safe medicinal treatment in Lohja. The target for the safe medicinal treatment project was the home care in Virkkala. Cooperation with Laurea University of Applied Sciences, the nursing students and the Virkkala home care began in January 2008. The aim of the safe medicinal treatment project was to develop a safe medicinal treatment for the home care. The description of the present state of the home care in Virkkala provides a basis for implementing safe medicinal treatment, defined in the the guide of the Ministry of social affairs and health. A medicinal treatment plan and research information about the functionality of medication plan in operation in Virkkala is needed to implement safe medication. The personnel of the Virkkala home care felt that the development targets were the sustenance of know-how for the medication skills and providing medical treatment. The theoretical points of view for the present state of the Virkkala home care were the medicinal treatment and the actions for developing. To clarify the present state of the Virkkala home care, nurses were interviewed and the fishbone diagram was dealt with the Virkkala home care personnel. Thus a picture was drawn how the medication process is realised in the Virkkala home care. The interview was taped, transcribed and the concepts were stated as a fishbone diagram with the help of content analysis and with the help of the guide for a safe medicinal treatment by the Ministry of social affairs and health. The fishbone diagram was discussed together with the personnel of the Virkkala home care. The dissemination method for the development process was being used. The starting point for the evaluation of implementing the development project were the answers given in the evaluation form by the personnel of the Virkkala home care. The majority of the personnel of the Virkkala home care believed both in the possibility for change and the forthcoming of the enhanced development of the medication treatment in their working community. The present state of the Virkkala home care medicinal treatment as depicted in the fishbone diagram is a base for the implementation of the medicinal treatment plan. Virkkala home care continues the development project with the purpose of creating functional medicinal treatment plan to their working community....
