Ikääntyneiden ryhmän kohtaaminen yksinäisyyden kontekstissa HyvinvointiTV:ssä
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)

Work-related Stress – The Risk of Working Life in the Light of 21st Century Research This thesis is a literature review. The purpose of this thesis is to provide information, in the light of 21st century research, on work resource factors, stress factors in working life, the ways work-related stress manifests, work-related stress prevention, and development of work well-being. The material used includes research and literature related to the subject. The results have been presented qualitatively and the method of analysis used is the analysis of the content. The results of the thesis made evident that work-related stress is presently one of the most common illnesses that work causes and consequently it causes a lot of absence from work due to illness. The present day working life is highly demanding and puts a lot of pressure on people. Work is more demanding than earlier and people are stretched to their limits. Employers require even better abilities to interact and co-operate, in order to make shared work tasks with different quarters go as well as possible. Fast paced work-related changes and the insecurity of working life have become a part of daily life in the labour market. The ability to acclimate both individually and communally suffers due to the need to rush work, psychological stress, and employers demanding higher efficiency. If stress is not controlled, the body begins to react to it in different ways. In the worst-case scenario, stress may even help cause serious illness. The effects that stress can have on the human body and mind advance in a manner that may be hard to notice. At first the symptoms may seem so commonplace that one may not even take notice of them. According to the studies, there is still much room for improvement. For the sake of the future, it would be wise to grab hold of the reins so that the direction of the development would at least not be descending. Many workplaces have many things in need of improvement. For example, in the caring industry the managers should follow the well-being of the nursing staff, so that their feeling down would not affect patient care and its quality. Thus preemptive actions become an important object of improvement....

Hemodialysis – Patient guide for an aged Somalian patient This Bachelor’s thesis is carried out in Kolmiosairaala project in cooperation with Laurea Uni-versity of Applied Sciences and the dialysis training ward of Surgical Hospital in the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa. The purpose of the thesis was to produce a patient guide for an aged Somalian patient who is getting dialysis treatment in the dialysis training ward. The aim of this thesis is to enable the development of patient guidance by using the produced patient guide. The thesis was completed as action research. As a product of action research was produced a patient guide for an aged somalian patient who is getting dialysis treatment in the dialysis training ward. Planning of the patient guide, carrying out the plan and its evaluation alter-nated in this action research and interaction between them formed an ongoing spiral. The literature search made at the beginning of the process was the basis for the plan on planning and making of the patient guide and its timetable. The dialysis training ward has patient guidance material in Finnish that was evaluated. The preliminary version of the patient guide was planned and completed with the help of the evaluation. The nurses of the dialysis treat-ment ward evaluated the preliminary version of the patient guide and after that it was cor-rected by using their suggestions. The thesis includes both the theoretical part and the patient guide. In the theoretical part aged Somalian people, hemodialysis treatment, patient guidance and patient guides are dis-cussed. As a product a richly illustrated patient guide including 31 pages was made. At the beginning of the patient guide the function of the kidneys and their dysfunction are shortly covered. Hemodialysis treatment, performing it and also vascular fistulas are described more extensively in the patient guide. In addition the diet of a hemodialysis patient, self-care and factors connected to well-being are introduced. The patient guide was evaluated by using an indicator made for the evaluation of patient guides. The patient guide is written in a way that it is as clear and easy to read as possible because the literacy of the aged Somalian people may be inadequate. The purpose of the rich illustration is to increase intelligibility of the patient guide and arouse intrest. In the future the patient guide is translated into the Somalian language. It could be wise to record the pa-tient guide by using the Somalian language or even produce a teaching video because verbal tradition is still strong in the Somalian culture especially among aged Somalian people. Then also illiterate patients could have information about their disease and its care in their native language....
