Functional methods supporting teamwork with short term care children Our thesis was carried trough in a family support house in South Finland in June 2009 with children between the age of four and twelve. The thesis was functional and its purpose to examine how the functional methods affect the ability of a child, who is placed in a short term care, to cooperate in a team and find courage. Our Thesis included six events, where functional methods such as sports and art were used. Four to ten children from two different departments of the family support house attended each event. The objective of the thesis was trough functional methods support the individual courage of each child and ability to show it in the group, enhance the teamworking skills, strengthen the positive experience and perception of teamwork and support each child as an individual and persona trough self-esteem in a groupactivity. The purpose was to observe the group and present children ways to realize the joys and opportunities of functional teamactivity. Our personal objectives were to develop our professionalism when working with children under child protective care and strengthen our role as leaders. We used evaluation methods such as learningdiary and observationform and received feedback from both our peers as well as from the children. Our thesis was based on a theory of operational environment in child protection. We examined theories of teamwork and its affect on individuals and theorie of children in crisis. Also theories of the meaning of the self-esteem of an individual in a teamactivity is present in our research. The final project and the process of carrying it trough was an enormous learningexperience for us. We found it challenging, interesting and rewarding to plan and execute the events. Most challenging was the nature of the project as everything included was based on our own observation. The results and objectives were hard to measure, because they were not concrete. For us, as leaders, the project was professionally rewarding as we received lot of knowledge to support us in the future. Trough the challenges encoutered during this project, we did not only learn a lot about the children, but from ourselves as well. What are our strengths and where do we still have to improve as leaders. From our research we can draw the conlusion that functional methods are beneficial in teamwork and teamactivities. It can sometimes be hard for us all to articulate our thoughts in to words. This is even harder for children that are in a insecure position in their life. According to our observations, the functional methods can make this process easier for the children and help them express their thoughts and feelings....

"Ihanaa kun on taiteilija tässä." Active art pilotti 3:n vaikutukset senioriin ohjaajan havaintojen perusteella.
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2010)
Vuodesta 2007 lähtien Tikkurilan Laurean ammattikorkeakoulu on tehnyt yhteistyötä Vantaan kaupungin kanssa, tarkoituksena tuoda sosiokulttuurisia menetelmiä varsinkin kuvataidetta ikääntyvälle väestölle palvelutaloissa ja päivätoimintakeskuksissa. Laurean ammattikorkeakoulun lehtorit ovat tutustuneet japanilaisen yliopiston kehittämään menetelmään nimeltä Clinical art, jossa on huomattu kuvataiteen tekemisen positiivinen vaikutus muistisairauksia sairastavien senioreiden elämään. Tikkurilan Laureassa on tähän asti käytetty menetelmästä nimeä Active art.
Minun opinnäytetyöni tarkoitus on tuoda esille edelleen miten Active art vaikuttaa senioreihin.

The purpose of the thesis was to conduct research into the experiences of social workers in their professional capacity to identify and guide victims of human trafficking to the aid system designed especially for them. The thesis was part of Laurea University of Applied Sciences’ Social Services for Adults developmental project. Hanna Londo, social worker from Espoo community- and family community home, served as the working life expert in our thesis project. The thesis project was a qualitative research. As our research method we used semi-structured interviewing, i.e. theme interviewing. The themes were built up on the basis of theoretical context. Our research questions were: how do social workers working with asylum seekers and refugees in the process of integration experience their own professional capacity in identifying victims of human trafficking, and how confident are they in guiding the victims? In collecting material for our thesis, we interviewed six social workers and counsellors in the capital region working with asylum seekers and refugees in the process of integration. The interviews were conducted between December 2009 and February 2010 at the social workers’ work places. The themes in the interviews were human trafficking as a phenomenon, identifying and guiding the victims of human trafficking, the social workers’ own experiences in their professional capacity to identify and guide the victims of human trafficking, and the future of human trafficking. The collected material was analyzed by means of instructional material analysis. The most substantial result was that the interviewees did not feel their professional capacities were sufficient enough to identify victims of human trafficking. The interviewees longed for training in identifying and guiding victims of human trafficking, and information on human trafficking as a phenomenon. The interviewees were worried about possible victims of human trafficking who have no contacts whatsoever with authorities. Furthermore, not all victims of human trafficking are identified at reception or in the integration process, after which they are transferred to the care and supervision of regional social services. A necessary follow-up research topic would be to research all possibilities of identifying victims of human trafficking outside authority contacts, and assess the professional capacities of regional social workers to identify victims of human trafficking....
