SINULLE ON SATTUNUT JOTAIN PELOTTAVAA - lasten kriisikirjanen Hyvinkään Kriisikeskukselle
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)
Opinnäytetyö on laadullinen tutkielma, jossa on piirteitä käytäntötutkimuksesta. Työn teoreettisena...
SOMETHING SCARY HAPPENED TO YOU – childrens´s crisisbooklet to Hyvinkää Crisis Center The purpose of this thesis was to find out how to support a child who has faced a sudden crisis. The target group of the study consisted of 4-8 year old children or children who are just learning to read. The research method was qualititave, with features of practical survey. The theoretical framework included crisis theory, which deals with crisis in the adult life. It can be applied to children, when the child and the development phase of his or her characteristic way to deal with and react to a sudden event are taken into account. The focus in this thesis is crisis created by a sudden event. The study was completed in co-operation with Hyvinkää Crisis Center. They ordered a booklet, which is intended to act as a tool for 4-to 8-year-old children to support them after a sudden crisis. It is recommended that the child goes through the booklet with an adult. The booklet has pictures that small children can look at and texts that a child who is just learning to read can read alone or together with an adult. The booklet is intended to facilitate child-adult discussion and to act as a tool to help the child to express his or her thoughts and feelings after a sudden crisis. This booklet is designed to help children deal with and go through a sudden crisis situation. Children's crisis booklet contains pictures drawn by children, children's own thoughts and the text part made into a nursery rhyme. The text is written by us. Drawings were made in a daycare center in Hyvinkää, where we instructed an activity moment for children. In this activity moment, we arrenged a play based on a nursery rhyme. Children were divided into adult-guided groups, where they drew pictures about the nursery rhyme and the play. We also had a discussion with children and their thoughts were written up. The nursery rhyme and pictures are depicting the phases of a crisis. In the beginning, everything is fine, until a sudden event comes along. According to the crisis theory, an event can cause a shock, followed by a reaction, whichafter one goes through the event and finally accepts what has happened as a part of life. After that, one can become reoriented to a new phase of life. This study includes a theory part and an activity report focusing on making of the booklet. Also interviews were conducted to receive a pre-evaluation of the booklet and these interviews were included in the interview report of the thesis. The interviewees were all professionals in education, socialwork, nursing and crisis work. As a result of this study, it can be stated that there are many more additional ways to use this booklet than what was originally intended. The booklet can be creatively applied to many kinds of situations. This type of Finnish-language material has rarely been published. In general, a variety of materials were experienced useful when working with children. The interviewees, based on their client's needs, also pointed out proposals for the improvement of the crisis booklet. Child's ability to understand and deal with tragic events is often underestimated and overlooked in a crisis. The child is always dependent on adult support to help him or her go through the difficult issues. That is why we feel it is very important to promote crisis awareness in adults and among children at schools, day care centers and at home....

FAMILY WORK FOR FAMILIES Client-oriented approach in Tikkurila non-institutional family work This thesis focused on families and their experiences in Tikkurila non-institutional family work, and it was part of Vantaa SOSTER project at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. This research was both quantitative and qualitative by nature. The material used in this research consisted of questionnaire-based data gathered from Tikkurila family work clients in years 2005-2008. In addition to the feedback forms, the research material also included statistic forms from year 2008, filled by the family workers. The quantitative part of this piece of research was completed by using a SPSS program. In the qualitative part, the method used was classification. The theoretical context of the thesis included child welfare, family work, and client-oriented approach. In terms of child welfare, its collective meaning and legislation in general were covered. In family work theory, the meaning of family work and the different ways it is being done were elaborated. Also, its different methods were included. In the theory section on client-oriented approach, family work was depicted in the light of child- and family-oriented approach. In the final part, families in general were defined and the different ways to support parents in parenthood were included. Based on the results of the thesis, the biggest concerns in the families turned out to be the challenges in parenthood and the lack of mother’s well-being. Often concerns were related to single parent and divorced families. The clients were mainly pleased with family work, especially mothers experienced they got help in their situation. Also, children in the families got help and support but all the fathers did not get the best possible help. Some of the clients mentioned that family work should be more and better available. Based on the results, it can be claimed that the families have a great need for support on a daily basis. This piece of research can be useful when developing family work in a more client-oriented way....

Kohti yksilöllisempää varhaiskasvatusta. Lasten temperamenttipiirteiden kartoitus varhaiskasvatuksen työmenetelmänä
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)
Temperamenttipiirteiden huomioiminen on varhaiskasvatuksessa tärkeää, jotta lasten yksilöllisiin tarpeisiin voitaisiin vastata paremmin.

“UNEMPLOYED IS ALSO A HUMAN BEING, NOT JUST PART OF THE STATISTICS” – New unemployed job seekers in Vantaa The focus of this thesis was unemployment and its purpose was to collect research data of new unemployed job seekers. By this data, Employment Office could reduce marginalization and prevent their clients ending up as long-term unemployed. The needed information can be acquired by collecting background information and employment information of the new unemployed jobseekers. The purpose of this thesis was also to study clients’ experiences and views of Employment Office services and their usefulness to them as they are looking for work. Another objective was to find out clients' satisfaction with the services they are able to use at Employment Office. The thesis was completed in co-operation with Vantaa Employment Office and it is based on the needs of working life. The economic depression has affected the unemployment situation in Vantaa during the thesis process. The research methods of this thesis were both qualitative and quantitative. Gathering background information of new unemployed job seekers and of changes in their unemployment after the first three months of job searching were done using quantitative research methods. All the information has been statistically gathered. During the thesis process from September 2008 to February 2009, there have been 1622 new unemployed job seekers. The qualitative part of the thesis was carried out by sending a survey to such new unemployed job seekers of Vantaa that had not found work after three months of job searching. The purpose of the survey was to get experience-based information of the way new unemployed job seekers feel about the usefulness of Employment Office services to them and how satisfied they are with the services. This survey was sent to the clients in the beginning of summer 2009, when all the information of new unemployed job seekers' search for work had been gathered The results of the thesis indicated that most new unemployed job seekers in Vantaa were young men under 29 years of age with low education level and less than five years of work experience. The results of the quantitative part of the research indicated that there are certain groups that emerge from all new unemployed job seekers. These groups included young job seekers without education, immigrants and older job seekers that already have work experience. After three months of being unemployed, about 20 percent of all job seekers found work and 50 percent of job seekers were still unemployed. The results of the survey indicated that about 57 percent of the new unemployed job seekers felt that being a client of Employment Office help their search for work. The job seekers that benefit most from Employment Office services were older job seekers that did not know modern job seeking methods. The majority of clients, about 77 percent, that answered the survey felt that client services at Employment Office were satisfying. The mean grade clients gave to the services of Employment Office was 7.6. Even though most clients were satisfied with the services, there were still some clients who felt that Employment Office clients’ services were unsatisfying and they did not think that Employment Office services help their search for work. The majority of clients felt that the queuing system was too complicated and waiting time was too long....

Tehostetun perhetyön henkinen kuormittavuus
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)
Lastensuojelun perhetyötä pidetään yleisesti haastavana ja henkisesti kuormittavana. Tilanteessa, jossa sijoitettu palaa vastaanottokodista kotiin, voidaan perheen kanssa tehtävän työn olettaa olevan vielä tavanomaista perhetyötä kuormittavampaa. Sijoitustilanne on itsessään työntekijälle lisärasitusta aiheuttava tekijä, samoin mahdollisesti kriisin asteelle kärjistyneet perhesuhteet.
Opinnäytetyöni liittyi ILO-hankkeeseen, jossa olivat mukana Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, Kalliolan Kannatusyhdistys ry ja Espoon kaupunki. Opinnäytetyöni tarkoituksena oli tutkia, minkälaista henkistä kuormittavuutta liittyy sijoitettujen nuorten parissa työskentelevien perhetyöntekijöiden työhön.
Tutkimuskysymykseni on: minkälaisia näkemyksiä sijoitettujen nuorten perhetyöntekijöillä on tehostetun perhetyön henkisestä kuormittavuudesta. Tutkimusjoukkonani toimi neljä sijoitettujen nuorten parissa työskentelevää perhetyöntekijää. Tutkimusmenetelmä oli puolistrukturoitu haastattelu. Opinnäytetyöni on muodoltaan laadullinen.
