The purpose of my thesis in diary format was to describe my development as an early childhood education teacher in a early childhood education unit located in Uusimaa. The aim of my thesis was to enhance my professional competence as an early childhood education teacher by writing diary reports over a period of ten weeks. I utilized the knowledge base of early childhood education to support weekly analysis and reflected on my actions to assess my development. I wrote the diary-format thesis for a total of ten weeks from April to June 2023. My thesis was structured around weekly themes closely related to my work as an early childhood education teacher. The thesis addressed my development in the role of an early childhood education teacher through a combination of theory and personal experience. My diary-format thesis provides an opportunity for in-depth examination of the work of an early childhood education teacher through analysis and reflection. Building a foundation of knowledge and skills contributes to the development of professional identity. The key observation in the diary report of my thesis was the recognition that the readiness of early childhood education staff for continuous professional development and competence maintenance is highly important, with an emphasis on pedagogical expertise in early childhood education. My diary-format thesis offers an experiential and knowledge-based perspective on the work of an early childhood education teacher. It can be used, for example, in the orientation of new employees in the early childhood education field....

The purpose of this thesis was to find out what kind of experiences Roma mothers in Finland have of living according to the manners of modesty. The aim was to produce information about Roma mothers experiences of life according to manners of modesty and to increase the awareness of manners of modesty that belong to Roma culture. Exploring the phenomenon is important because there is no previous research on the subject. Introducing the Roma perspective is necessary because the Roma people are part of Finnish society and belong to Finland's traditional cultural minorities. The thesis was made in cooperation with Kanta-Hämeen perhetyö ry. The theoretical frame of reference of the thesis consisted of multiculturalism, cultural sensitivity, Roma, Roma culture, modesty and its close concept shame, and manners of modesty. The most central theme of the theoretical framework was the manners of modesty. The thesis was made by using qualitative research methods. The perspective of the thesis was phenomenological, beacause the thesis examined the world of experience of the target group. The data was collected through thematic interviews. The interviews were attended by three Roma mothers, who had personal experience of living according to the manners of modesty. Data-based content analysis was used to analyse the collected data. From the interview responses, it was seen that modesty and manners of modesty were emphasized in the lives of Roma women in early adulthood, when young Roma people begin to become independent and move towards adulthood. Roma mothers most central experiences of modesty were tied to puberty, dressing, dating and relationships, and having a child. The Roma mothers stated that modesty had an effect on receiving support, because due to modesty it is not appropriate to discuss many themes related to that stage of life. Getting support or its challenges were described occuring especially in adolescence and in connection with having a child. Social and health care professionals can use the findings of the thesis in their work. The thesis increases professionals awareness of Roma culture and its special features, and helps to choose suitable methods of helping in social work practice....
