To the small-group with stories This thesis is functional and it addresses promoting group spirit in a small group with story crafting and functional methods. The study was carried out as small group research with four-year-old children in six separate meetings. The thesis was carried out in a private early childhood education unit Settlement Louhela´s daycare in Järvenpää. Four children of four years were selected from day care group with children from one to five years to my thesis small group. The subject of the thesis was selected by a wish from the partner day care unit. The objective was to study a small-group of children in this age and their team building. The objective was to provide the children exercises promoting group spirit in a small group where the children were working together as a team. In addition the target was to develop my own leadership. The purpose was to provide a small group where children have a feeling of involvement. The methods were story crafting and visual expressing. The visual expressing methods were group painting, rainbow fish finger painting and free drawing from children´s own stories. The theoretical context covers early childhood education and day care, the development level of a four-year-old child, story crafting, inclusion and teaming. The small group sessions were videotaped for more comprehensive observation. In addition to the observation feedback about the group activities from the kindergarten teacher as well as children affected my evaluation. According to my opinion, my observations and feedback revealed that the targets of this thesis were achieved quite well. The thesis is the most significant to the children in the small group and to the early childhood educations unit where it was made. I hope also that this thesis will invite reflections from challenges and possibilities from small group activities. Children enjoyed working in their own small-group and got experiences of inclusion and grouping. The children were willingly participating and giving positive feedback. Also my own leadership in the group developed during the process and I got more self-confident in my professional approach. The irregular presences of the children caused challenges for the group activities and teaming. The thesis process was challenging but successful and an educational experience...

Sport supporting the mental and social growth of a young person The aim of this thesis was to examine young person’s mental and social growth and especially the effects that sport has. This thesis is a continuation to my Bachelor’s thesis, which was written in 2012. This research was a qualitative case study. The research methods were theme interview and observation. The interview was divided into three sessions and they were carried out during January 2012. The theoretical background of this thesis consists of the development of a young person and from the effect that sport has in that development. Main points are mental and social growth and factors influencing them, such as self-concept, self-esteem, family and friends. The theoretical background also contains a sociological point of view. It connects this thesis into the field of social study and explains the sociological meaning of sport. Based on the results, sport does support the mental and social growth of a young person by socializing him into becoming a member of the society and teaching him skills he wouldn’t necessarily learn without sport. Key factors influencing young person’s mental and social growth were family and friends. Family influenced by supporting financially and on the mental level. Friends supported the growth of a young person by teaching him social skills and ways to cope in life. It was experienced that sport taught many skills regarding mental and social growth, such as perseverance, concentration and how to be social. The results reveal that the families’ possibilities of supporting the young person’s hobby vary in financial and in mental level. The family was seen as an enabler of a sport hobby....

Herra Siili ja Tammenterhot – Pienryhmätoiminnan edistäminen alle 3-vuotiaiden päiväkotiryhmässä

Toteutimme opinnäytetyömme toiminnallisena vantaalaisessa päiväkodissa Tammenterhot-nimisessä ryhmässä. Tarkoituksena oli päiväkodin toiveiden mukaisesti järjestää alle 3-vuotiaiden ryhmän lapsille pienryhmätuokioita ja sen myötä edistää pienryhmätoiminnan jatkuvuutta lapsiryhmässä. Tuokiot toteutettiin päiväkodissa syksyn 2013 aikana neljänä erillisenä kertana kahdelle ryhmälle peräkkäin. Pienryhmät koostuivat pääosin noin 4-5 lapsesta, jotka olivat iältään 2-3-vuotiaita ja 1-2-vuotiaita.
Tuokioiden sisältö rakentui erilaisista toimintamuodoista, joissa korostimme luovia työskentelytapoja. Toimintamme perustana käytimme siilikäsinukkea, Herra Siiliä, ja sen ympärille luotua tarinaa, joka vei toimintatuokioita eteenpäin. Pyrimme suunnittelemaan pienryhmätuokioista sellaisen kokonaisuuden, että se palvelisi päiväkodin tarvetta pienryhmätoiminnan jatkuvuudelle mahdollisimman hyvin. Sen takia halusimme myös tarjota erilaisia ideoita pienryhmätoimintaan. Lisäksi opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on ollut edistää omia ryhmänohjaustaitojamme.
Opinnäytetyömme teoreettisessa osuudessa käsittelemme alle 3-vuotiaan lapsen kehitystä, päiväkodin aloitukseen, ryhmän ohjaukseen ja käsinuken käyttöön liittyviä seikkoja sekä käyttämiämme luovia toimintatapoja. Opinnäytetyömme arviointi pohjautui pääasiassa päiväkodin työntekijöiltä saatuun palautteeseen sekä omaan havainnointiimme. Palautteista kävi monelta osin ilmi, että toimintamme on innostanut ja antanut työntekijöille motivaatiota sekä uusia ideoita pienryhmätoiminnan järjestämiseen. Saimme myös hyvää rakentavaa palautetta, joka koski omia ryhmänohjaustaitojamme....
