The purpose of this thesis was to report on the introduction of 5S floor markings at Metsä Wood Lohja's Kerto® factory. Lohja factory is the permanent job of the author of this thesis, and the author was designing and implementing the floor markings himself. The thesis is written in the form of a diary by reporting one's own work for 10 weeks. The format of reporting is narrative and varies from author’s point of view written as well as objective approach. The main focus of the report is on the design and implementation of 5S floor markings. Discussions related to the project in the work environment are discussed and considered in relation to doing one's own work. The management of one's own work and time management are also occasionally discussed. The theoretical part deals with the world of lean, its history and characteristics, as well as the opportunities and challenges associated with it. The theory of the 5S method deals with its characteristics, the introduction of the method and the most common tools used in it. Reporting follows the author's own development from basic knowledge to a deeper understanding of lean philosophy and the growing expertise of the 5S method. Pictures of the objects before and after the floor markings have been added to the initial situation analysis and reporting part of the thesis. The images support the written narrative of the steps of the 5S floor markings. The final conclusions analyze the author's own development process during the reporting period. The analysis has considered the development of the quality of the design and implementation of 5S floor markings, the development of own work management and time management. In addition, the suitability of the dissertation in the form of a diary in addition to one's own work has been considered, as well as the benefits it brings to the employer.
