Nuorten aikuisten suhtautuminen golfin markkinointiin ja maineeseen
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2016)

The primary purpose of this thesis was to find out how fundamental human rights of persons with intellectual disabilities are fulfilled in 2015. The research was focused on the rights that seem not to be fulfilled so well according to studies in the very same field of research. Former studies, international legislation of human rights, national legislation, preparatory law material and other essential sources and literature were used. The outcome of the thesis was that it highlighted the obstacles and problems on the road to fulfilment of the rights and gave suggestions based on the findings to improve the situation. The intention was to find out changes that will strengthen the rights of people with intellectual disabilities in the opinion of the persons themselves, their relatives and friends and the professionals working with them. The purpose was to establish valuable information that could be useful socially in planning and decision-making thereby improving the position of people with intellectual disabilities. The research method used in this study is quantitative and it was carried out using a standardized survey. The results of the research indicate that there are some remarkable drawbacks for people with intellectual disabilities. Respondents found it challenging to reach all the important information. They also found too much red tape in the practices affecting a person’s everyday life. According to the study, the hardest rights to fulfil were; the freedom to choose one’s occupation, the right to have the arrangement of housing where a person has the possibility to be independent and the right to have an influence in the decision-making. The results of the research also showed that fulfilment of parity and non-discrimination was not found to be at an acceptable level. It turned out that the biggest problem seemed to be the division between people in everyday life of society. Obviously, a way of improving the position of people with intellectual disabilities is to intentionally include them as equal members of society....

This thesis examined Bank-loan funds as an investment. A bank-loan fund is not a new type of mutual fund, but it’s popularity and recognizability has been dampened by other more popular mutual funds. However, during recent years its popularity has drastically increased and that is why the topic is current. The purpose of this thesis was to examine bank-loan funds as a mutual fund and also as an investment. The objective was to receive a thorough understanding on their function, idiosyncrasies and success. The theoretical framework of the thesis first describes mutual funds in general. This part covers the basic functions of mutual funds, advantages, disadvantages, risks and diversification. The concluding part of this theoretical framework examines performance related statistical measures. The research was executed as a case study. It is distinctive for a case study to examine a phenomenon, in this case the bank-loan fund, in depth with the intention of interpreting the collected data in detail. Because bank-loan funds are examined as an investment, it is also vital to compare their functions to other mutual funds. This is why benchmarking is used to assist the case study. With these research methods it is possible to state that bank-loan funds are an alternative for High Yield funds. Bank-loan funds are bond funds, which behave exactly in the opposite way to traditional bond funds. Traditional bonds offer a fixed interest rate during the loan period for the investor. These high-risk bank loans do not have fixed interest rate but instead they track a designated reference rate of interest, and thus having a floating rate. When interest rates rise, the value of a traditional bond declines because new bonds offer a better interest rate for investors. The value of these floating rate bank loans rise in line with rising interest rates. It is also a great advantage that these floating rate bank loans are secured while most of High Yield bonds are unsecured. Bank-loan funds attract investors with their lower risk and competitive yield. When examining historical yields it was discovered that High Yield funds offer a better yield than bank-loan funds. However when examining performance related key figures it appeared that bank-loan funds have out performed High Yield funds. For instance, when inspecting the risk-adjusted return, it appears that bank-loan funds performed better. Based on these facts it can be concluded that bank-loan funds managed to generate almost as good yield as High Yield fuds, but with considerably lower risk....

The purpose of this thesis was to research the purchasing behavior of young adults studying at Laurea University of Applied Sciences. The focus of the research was on animal source foods. However, the research also took plant based foods into account. The aim of the research was to gain more information regarding whether food retailers could benefit from having a more comprehensive selection of ethical goods. The commissioner was M-ketju, a food retailing company. The theoretical framework of the research covered consumer behavior of young adults and generally and also inspected ethical consumption as a phenomena. In addition, food production was examined from an ethical perspective focusing on animals and the environment. The empirical part was conducted as quantitative research. Data was gathered via an electronic survey as it best suited the large canvassing cohort; the method also supported the ethics of the research. The research indicated that the target group demanded quality, but affordably. Additionally, food ethics and environmental friendliness were appreciated. Animal welfare was considered to be very important. It also became evident that the target group would be willing to purchase more ethical food if the prices decrease or their personal incomes increase. The target group had changed their diet towards a more sustainable direction within the past year. They had, for example, reduced red meat consumption and increased the consumption of plant-based foods. The research indicated that food retailers could gain from expanding their selection of ethically produced foods. Foods such as organic meat, dairy, fish, processed meat products and especially organic chicken were wished in stores. Also, plant-based food and plant-based processed foods were wanted, but not entirely in order to substitute meat but as a supplement. The data from the survey also indicated that more information was needed on ethical diets. A substantial part of the target group could not answer when correlation between animal source foods and animal welfare was inquired. This was also the case when the correlation between animal source foods and global warming was asked. This could provide the possibility of increasing the demand of ethical foods by communicating the benefits of ethical and plant-based foods via marketing messages....

This thesis was commissioned by a Finnish recruitment agency that operates mainly in the staffing and recruiting fields. The purpose of this thesis was to examine the recruitment process and how it could be made more efficient especially from the perspective of recruitment channels. The objective was to determine how different recruitment channels should be used to maximize the results so that good candidates are found for even the most challenging recruitment processes. Concepts of recruiting, recruiting processes, recruiting channels and operations of recruitment agencies in Finland are presented in the theoretical framework of the thesis. Thereafter follows the descriptions of the current situations of the company’s recruitment process and use of different recruiting channels. The empirical part of the thesis was implemented by interviewing the company’s four employees. All the four employees were responsible for recruiting. Based on the results a clear picture of the recruiting channels used in the company were obtained The company handled the traditional recruiting process and recruiting channels well, however, the newer ways of recruiting and modern methods and channels were not so up to date within the company. The results of the interviews showed that there should be a lot more monitoring about the efficiency and reachability of the used recruiting channels. With this monitoring the company would know better which specific recruiting channels to use with differing open positions. At the moment the company does not monitor the effectiveness of the recruiting channels and at the same time there are sometimes problems to find specialists in specific fields. Another finding based on the interviews was that there was a lack of knowledge about specific recruiting channels. This seems to be the main reason why employees do not use the modern channels as much as they would like to. There should be more education and open discussion so every recruiter in the company would have the best knowledge and skills as possible. There is already some knowledge within the company but it is not being used and shared as much as it could be. The company should take advantage of this knowledge better in the future....
