Recruitment methods in the future Recruiting is changing rapidly and new methods to get in touch with potential job seekers are constantly developing. With the increase in the use of the internet and different social media, recruiters are faced with numerous possibilities of utilizing these new methods. The question now is, how to balance traditional channels with new ones, in order to take advantage of what the new opportunities bring with them. This study examined a variety of recruitment methods with the objective of gaining a com-prehensive overall picture of the recruitment methods and channels that graduate students currently use, as well as which they are likely to favor in future. It is necessary for Laurea University of Applied Sciences to continually develop its training programs in order to secure a high employment rate for its students, in the future as well. One of the main goals was to provide valuable information for Laurea, about how the degree programs and their content can be further developed. The thesis also examined and analyzed the use of social media as part of the recruitment process. The study also sought to identify how companies put emphasis on recruitment and the extent to which the role social media plays in the future. The research problem was to study which are currently the most commonly used methods of recruitment and what will be the most effective way to reach potential job seekers in future. The sub-questions of the research included: what means do graduate students from Laurea University of Applied Sciences find to be the best to get recruited and which channels do they use. The theoretical framework consisted of recruitment, social media as well as recruitment in the social media. Conclusions were made on the basis of the results obtained through the study, which are linked with the theoretical frame of reference. Another objective of the report was to research which recruitment channels students currently utilize and which ones are going to be the primary channels in future. As it was a quantitative study, a survey was conducted to find the most used recruitment methods. In the empirical part of the research, the information was collected through an electronic based questionnaire. The questionnaire was sent to 2821 Laurea students who began their studies in 2011 or earlier and are studying on the Finnish degree programs. The aim was to receive extensive and diverse research results. A total of 337 responses were received and the response rate of the survey was 13.4 percent. The most used method to recruit at the moment is the traditional recruitment channels such as mol.fi (Minstry of Labour), companies’ homepages and printed media. Social media is not yet seen as an effective channel for recruitment. However, it is believed to become one of the most essential channels for recruitment in future. Regardless of the rise of social media, traditional recruitment methods will not disappear. The less used and impractical recruitment channels will not be used as much when the new channels become popular on the job market....

Prisma Lohjan vihannesosaston pientoimittajalogistiikka
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2014)

This thesis was commissioned by Stara, the construction service of Helsinki. The aim of this thesis was to describe the core process of Stara’s playground equipment service and identify possible problem areas. The objective was to create suggestions on how to improve the process by increasing the quality and the efficiency of the process and removing these problem areas. The second objective of this thesis was to determine whether the personnel with a substantial role in the process have a clear and unified understanding of the process in general and of their own roles in the different stages of the process. Playground safety is regulated by the Consumer Safety Act (920/2011) and it is the basis of The Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency’s (2014) safety requirement. Stara’s playground equipment service is a part of the renovation office of the Construction Engineering department, and one of the core competences of the service is to provide the annual inspections of the playground equipment. The basis of these inspections is the safety and the well being of the children using the equipment. Safety and economy are the main principles of producing the service and they have a large role also in this thesis. The empirical study of this thesis was carried out as a case study and the research data was gathered by observing, interview-ing and examining existing documents. Kai Laamanen’s model of creating of the process description was used as a basis for describing the service process of Stara’s playground equipment services. This thesis was carried out in three different phases during spring 2014. In the first phase the knowledge base of this thesis was formed by consulting the literature concerning process management, processes and the development and description of different processes. Relying on this theoretical framework, the process description of Stara’s playground equipment service’s core process was made. The interviews of the personnel in substantial roles were carried out at the same time as the process description. The last phase included the analysis of the process description and locating the problem areas in it. Development ideas for removing the problem points were also created in this phase. The result of this case study is a detailed process description of Stara’s playground equipment service’s annual inspection process. The case study also revealed that the personnel in substantial roles within the process are well aware of their own roles and responsibilities in the different phases of the process, but there is a lack of understanding the process as a whole. The case study brings out that there is a need of more thorough orientation for the personnel about the process and it’s different phases. With small and reasonably easy measures, such as improving the information flow between the client and the inspectors and modifying the currently used software to be more user-friendly the process can be developed into a better flowing process, that has a better quality and is more efficient at the same time....

Perehdytyksen ja sisäisen viestinnän kehittäminen vapaa-ajan osastolla - Case K-citymarket
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2014)
Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoitus oli löytää kehitysideoita perehdytykseen sekä sisäiseen viestintään ja siihen kuinka niistä saataisiin yhtenäinen, tehokas kokonaisuus yhdessä pääkaupunkiseudun K-citymarketin vapaa-ajan osastolla.

The purpose of this project was to develop recommendations for improving introductory briefings and inner communications so that these could be cohesive and effective at one recreational department of K-citymarket in the metropolitan area. The client for the project was K-citymarket, which is part of the Kesko group, listed company operating in the trade of foods, utility ware, iron, cars and machinery. The trading chain consist of approximately 2 000 stores in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and Belarus. The theoretical section of the thesis examines the literature on introductory briefings and internal communications. This is followed by the empirical section. Research was conducted using qualitative inquiry methods and a system for data collection used the interview-method. The research questions addressed in the thesis were expressed as: “How to develop internal communications through the introductory briefing?”, “How to maximize all possible benefits of the introductory briefing?” and “How the introductory briefing can be made cohesive and functional?” It became clear from the research results that employees felt that the introductory briefing proceeded smoothly and that internal communications were comprehensive. An area for potential development was identified to be the lack of time during introductory briefing to address the problem that salespeople have different levels of competence for work in the recreational department. One recommendation for development for the department might be to build up a system which could be used for monitoring the level knowledge of workers both in the recreational department and in the checkout department in order to be able to provide requisite personalized training to improve the level of competence. In this way the professional needs of each individual salesperson could be satisfied....
