Commitment of volunteers towards Finnish Lifeboat Institution & Membership Associations Case: The Finnish Lifeboat Institution The aim of this thesis was to examine how volunteer workers engage in The Finnish Lifeboat Institution and its voluntary maritime rescue associations. The framework of the study discusses the theories of motivating, commitment and voluntary work. The objective of the thesis was to learn about volunteers’ reasons for starting as a volunteer and motivation for operating, by closely looking at their attitudes and perspectives on the subject. The research method was quantitative and in additionally qualitative approach. The study was conducted with a questionnaire program, Webropol, which included standardized and open-ended questions. The questionnaire was sent to all Finnish sea and lake associations, members of the rescue, which includes total a of 2044 members. The purpose of the survey was to determine what specific factors motivate memberships in operations. In addition, respondents were asked to evaluate the functioning of the association and suggest which action their association could possibly improve. The study showed that the volunteer members have various numbers of development proposals for their associations. The main motives for starting as a volunteer were a hobby, helping and self-development. Members are most motivated on meaningful voluntary work as a hobby, importance of helping and diverse maritime training. Espinno–project Case: culture services This thesis is a part of Espinno-project by the city of Espoo and KiSY-project by Laurea Uni-versity of Applied Sciences. The purpose of these projects is to examine how to provide social services by using new types of services. Social services can be provided to senior citizens via an external umbrella entrepreneurship in the form of Service modules. Services are provided to the senior citizens living in the Espoo community live and habit centers. Long-term unemployed are utilized in providing services. Three types of service modules are introduced in this thesis. In these services, culture has been productized in the form of service. The benefits of culture can be seen as a health con-tributor as well as an attributor in comprehensive well-being in the care of senior citizens. The culture packages are divided by the activities and the purpose of their usage. The ser-vice packages are divided into three different categories: the individual culture package, the workout- and the well-being package. An important criterion concerning the service packages was the quality of the services provided, as the concept of the service packages included the perspective of utilizing long-term unemployed people as employees. The idea of utilizing long-term unemployed people is to secure the accessibility of services as the "baby boom generation" retires. In addition to the service packages this thesis contains inspection of costs when employing a long-term unemployed person from an economic perspective in comparison to the costs when employing a trained professional. The cost-analysis is directional and is based on a current collective agreement. The theses final results were to highlight the benefits of culture through Espinno-project and also possible getting Espoo to involve culture services as part of seniors daily care system. One factor defining a company’s profitability is the rate of turnover of stock, since significant amount of surplus capital remains inaccessible, if the turnover is slow. The aim of this study was to determine how efficient the turnover of the stock is especially for product group T at company X, which is a large Finnish company operating in the food industry. The present state of the turnover of the stock is analysed in the study, and proposals for improvement are suggested. The aim has been to calculate the optimal turnover rate of the stock, without risking the company’s other performance indicators such as delivery time. A general background objective is to improve efficiency and make cost savings. The study is both qualitative and operational. A significant amount of the empirical data derives from the author’s own knowledge and experience, having worked for company X for nearly six years. Theoretical concepts are also reviewed through a discussion of the relevant literature. In addition, several interviews were conducted at the case company, and the company’s ERP (enterprise resource planning) data was analysed for the study. The results of the research indicate that a number of the products of product group T already have optimal turnover. However, the turnover rate of most products was found to be too slow, while for a small number of products it was found to be too fast. It was also discovered that the products that sell the most are really significant by volume for case company. As an outcome of the research, it is recommended that the case company negotiate with its supplier about whether it would be possible to change the order cycle of products to achieve a more optimal turnover rate. They should also discuss the possibility of using a faster means of transportation, and reducing the size of the order batch. The research result also indicated that there is a possibility to achieve as much as 10 % in cost savings on some products by optimizing the order cycle....

The purpose of this thesis is to examine the annual profits of corporate bonds and to determine how these are affected in terms of the strategies of buying and holding. Stocks are chosen for comparison to corporate bonds for their popularity amongst investors and their annual income which is comparable to bonds coupons. The theoretical section provides background information about corporate bonds and stocks, with an emphasis on corporate bonds, as these are considerably less familiar to investors than stocks. The method used in the research is the case study, which is qualitative research method. The research compares corporate bonds with the performance of the same corporation’s stocks. The data for the research is taken from corporate bonds issued between 2001 and 2011 in Finland. 14 bonds that matched the criteria were chosen for the research. There is a considerable amount of literature and research on stocks and methods of investment. Research on investing in corporate bonds in Finland has been conducted to a lesser extent and only statistical data is available. Most of the literature regarding corporate bonds concerns the much larger bond markets in the United States. The result of the research reinforces the theory. Average annual income is slightly higher in stocks and the volatility of the stocks indicated the higher risk as the possibility for higher profit. Corporate bonds were compared to each other in addition to stocks. Fixed rate bonds offered higher annual profit in the form of the coupon rate. One of the reasons for this was the plunge in market interest rates at the end of 2008, which significantly lowered the coupon rates for floating rate bonds. The conclusion of the research is that in terms of risk corporate bonds lie between government bonds and stocks. For the default risk and the demanded expertise of the business it is possible that corporate bonds could work as a gateway for investing in stocks among low-risk investors. The purpose of the comparison between investment instruments was not to demonstrate the superiority of any individual instrument. The result of the study was that both instruments have their strengths and they are suitable for different situations in life as for different functions. Potential investors should identify their objectives in investing and understand their risk profile when making investing decisions....

Digital Marketing Channels in a Chain Store's Unit This thesis is a research on a retail chain store´s use of digital marketing channels which are newsletter by E-mail, web pages, Facebook page and digital signage. The Chain Store belongs to a nationwide chain and it sells foodstuffs and consumer non-durables. The purpose was to find out which of these digital marketing channels have reached Chain Store´s customers and which should be improved. The research problem was: How well do the Chain Store´s digital marketing channels reach the customers? The aim was to reveal possible problems by a survey and propose solutions to improve them. The frame of reference consisted of marketing communications, digital marketing communications and digital media. Theory was chosen from different literature and Internet publications. The survey was quantitative and carried out from the customers´ point of view. The goal was to find out whether the customers had heard about or used Chain Store´s digital channels and how they felt about them. The material was collected from a random sample of 100 Chain Store´s customers. The results were demonstrated by figures and tables and referred to existing theories. Respondents were mostly women and the two largest age groups were ages between 20-30 and 31-40. The majority of the respondents were regular customers but only a few had subscribed to the Chain Store´s newsletter which was found to be useful. Most of them wanted information about product offers and upcoming campaigns. Approximately half of the respondents had heard of Chain Store´s web pages which usually were found by server or they had read about them from a magazine for regular customers. The Majority of the respondents visited the web pages approximately two times a month. Web pages were considered to be good and informative. Over half had a Facebook account. Only few knew Chain Store´s Facebook page, but nobody was a member. Most of the respondents considered digital signages useful and felt that it is important to inform customers about product offers, upcoming campaigns, current news and novelty products. Chain Store´s Facebook page needed to be developed the most, but also all digital marketing channels´ familiarity to the customers needed to be improved. Development proposals were made in order to improve content of the digital marketing channels and to increase their familiarity....

This thesis was commissioned by Oy Vallila Interior Ab, which transferred its sales invoicing to electronic invoicing in the beginning of 2010. With this change the company needed to survey if they were working in accordance with the Accounting board’s instructions in February 2011 regarding e-invoicing. After the transition to e-invoicing, the company outsourced its printing service for the customers that were not able to receive e-invoices. However, the volume of electronic invoicing has not significantly increased from this starting point. The research problem this thesis addressed was whether the company has complied with the legislative requirements in its e-invoicing of sales invoices. Vallila Interior has already determined that the sales invoicing process was carried out in accordance with legislative guidelines; however, this thesis also examines how the sales invoicing should be done according to the Accounting board’s instructions. These instructions have also been viewed from the perspective of the case company’s sales invoicing process. A second area of research concerned the ways in which the company could increase its e-invoicing. This research problem is supported by the survey that was conducted among the company’s customers. The objective of the survey was to study the feasibility of customers receiving e-invoices. The theoretical chapter discusses electronic finance and electronic invoicing and the benefits that they provide to companies. The thesis also includes a description of the reasons for e-invoicing’s slow advance and the different actions that have been taken to increase e-invoicing in Finland. Although Finland is a forerunner in e-finance, there has not, for example, been much increase in the past five years. In the research of Vallila Interior’s sales invoicing process it was discovered that the company is in full compliance with the Accounting board’s instructions. The preservation and preparation of documents in sales invoice has been done according to the instructions given by legislator. The amount of information that is given in the company’s sales invoices is even in excess of the amount required according to the accounting board’s instructions. The research that was conducted into Vallila Interior’s customers was directed at customers who are not currently receiving e-invoices. The research reveals that among these customers there are companies that could receive e-invoices. This may be due to the fact that not every customer is aware of the possibility of sending e-invoices that Vallila Interior offers. Verkostopalveluliiketoiminnan toteutussuunnitelma

Opinnäytetyössä selvitettiin, miten uudesta liikeideasta voidaan lähteä rakentamaan kasvuliiketoimintaa. Keskeisenä selvityksen kohteena oli ansaintamallin rakentaminen idean ympärille. Liikeidea on uusi yhteisöllinen verkkopalvelu, joka tuo paikallisten tiedon ulkopaikkakuntalaisten saataville. Palvelulla tuodaan todellisen kulttuurin löytäminen matkustajille helpommaksi uudessa matkakohteessa.
Työhön haettiin teoriaa kasvuliiketoiminnan perustamisesta ja internetpalveluiden perustamisen ja suunnittelemisen aineistoista. Ansaintamallia rakennettiin yhdessä asiantuntijoiden kanssa, joilla oli kokemusta internet start-upien perustamisesta ja suunnittelusta. Ansaintamallista ja yrityksen perustamisen alkuvaiheiden selvittämisestä kerättiin palautetta myös yritysneuvojilta.
Liikeideaa testattiin alfa-sivustolla, johon kerättiin noin sadan henkilön kansainvälinen koeyleisö. Sivusto rakennettiin valmiille sivusto-pohjalle ja pidettiin vielä tässä vaiheessa yksinkertaisena, jotta se olisi nopeasti toteutettavissa. Suuri osa koeyleisöstä koki liikeidean kiinnostavana ja kannattavana viedä eteenpäin. Koekäyttäjät saatiin rekisteröityä Laurean järjestämistä tapahtumista sekä oman sosiaalisen verkoston kautta.
Työn yksi tärkeä johtopäätös oli koeyleisön kiinnostuneisuus ideaa kohtaan. Testikäyttäjät kokivat palvelun hyödyllisenä ja olisivat kiinnostuneita käyttämään palvelua tulevaisuudessakin. Omatoimimatkailu on lisääntynyt internetin tuomien mahdollisuuksien vuoksi tiedonhaussa ja markkinoille kaivataan uusia ratkaisuja perinteisten matkatoimistojen tarjoamien palvelujen sijaan. Ansaintamalli ei nojaa vain mainostuksen tuomiin tuloihin. Palvelun kolme suurinta rahanlähdettä ovat käyttäjät, matkailupalveluita tarjoavat yritykset sekä mainostajat....

Formation of an e-recruitment portal based on recruitment videos The purpose of this thesis was to establish an e-recruitment portal which provides recruitment videos as a service to its customers. The Videorekrytointi.fi recruitment portal offers its users help in deciding the kind of job they are looking for with the help of videos. The recruitment videos help the jobseeker to identify the real nature of the company and provide a more precise description of the job. This thesis focused on the visual design and basic functions of the recruitment portal. The portal has been implemented to meet the future challenges of recruitment and the rapidly evolving methods of e-recruitment on the Internet. The theoretical section of this thesis was planned to meet the objectives of the functional selection of the thesis. The theoretical section offers definitions of terms such as recruitment, e-recruitment and recruitment communications, and a framework based on discussion of the relevant literature and material databases related to the subject. The functional section of this thesis provides an overview of the actual formation of the visual identity and basic functions of the recruitment portal, and is divided into four sections. The first section clarifies the use of the recruitment portal and the benefits of using recruitment videos. The second section describes the requirements for the portal in terms of the competitors in the field and the prevailing trends. The third section shows how the e-recruitment portal was formed and the fourth section describes the potential for future development of the recruitment portal. The final result of this study was the visual appearance and the functions for the recruitment portal. The portal provides video recruitment services to its customers taking into account future opportunities and trends in e-recruitment. Development of the recruitment portal will continue after the completion of this thesis. The project was very successful and met its objectives. Cooperation with the external supplier went smoothly and follow-up measures in relation to the recruitment portal have already been decided....
