Operations model for telemarketing Case: Cembrit Oy The purpose of this research-based development project was to develop an operations model for telemarketing. The operations model describes the best way to carry out telemarketing in the case company. Telemarketing was practiced for the first time in the case company, thus the development started from scratch. The development project’s objective was that the outcome of the development process would bring new information and knowledge to the case company and the process would further the professional development of student. The theoretical framework was based on research literature of communication, telemarketing and telemarketing phone call. The project’s research and development method was constructive research. Constructive research method aims at producing novel concrete solution to practical problems. A quantitative survey was used to support the constructive research method. The survey was conducted by using telephone. The outcome was an operations model which brings new data to the business of the case company by describing the best way to conduct telemarketing. The operations model describes comprehensively how to conduct telemarketing according to the objectives of the case company, how to reach potential customers, how to contact customers and what a reference includes and how the information related to the customer contacts can be spread and followed up in the organization. The operations model which was the outcome of the development project fulfills the requirements of the constructive research method and the model has proved to be a practical solution in the case company. The results of the survey included in the development project also indicate the practicality of the outcome. In conclusion, the development project has successfully managed to develop working life and the outcome has been evaluated to be valuable to working life. The development project and research focused on just one customer group but in the future the use of the operations model can be extended also to other segments....

Liiketoimintasuunnitelma - Case Finacon Oy

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on toteuttaa paranneltu liiketoimintasuunnitelma finanssialan konsultointiyritykselle Finacon Oy:lle. Vuonna 2010 perustettu Finacon Oy tarjoaa konsultointipalvelua rahoituslaitoksille, yrityksille sekä vientiluotto- ja kuntarahoituslaitoksille. Lisäksi yritys markkinoi kansainvälisiä rahastotuotteita ammattimaisille instituutiosijoittajille. Palveluita tarjotaan jatkuvana suhteiden hoitona tai projektiluontoisesti.
Teoriaosuudessa käsitellään yleisellä tasolla konsultointia, sen kehitystä sekä asioita, joita konsultointiyrityksen tulee ottaa huomioon toimiakseen. Teoriaosuus esittää myös kattavaan liiketoimintasuunnitelmaan vaadittavat asiat. Käytännön osuudessa toteutetaan aiempaa teoriaa hyödyntäen varsinainen kehitelty liiketoimintasuunnitelma Finacon Oy:lle.
Työssä esitetään eri syitä konsulttipalvelujen käytön yleistymiseen yritysmaailmassa sekä esitellään erilaisia konsultoinnin tapoja. Konsultti, jonka toimialatuntemus, referenssit sekä imago ovat potentiaalisen asiakkaan odotuksiin nähden yhdensuuntaiset, on etulyöntiasemassa verrattuna kilpailijoihinsa.
Hyvä liiketoimintasuunnitelma voi olla rakenteeltaan monen tyyppinen, riippuen mihin tarkoitukseen se on tehty. Sen tulee kuitenkin olla selkeä kokonaisuus ja kertoa kaikista liiketoiminnan olennaisista osa-alueista. Liiketoimintasuunnitelma on toimintaa ohjaava työkalu, jonka tarkoitus on seurata toiminnan edistymistä ja varoittaa niin yrityksen sisäisistä kuin ulkoisistakin haasteista.
Teoriaa apuna käyttäen on toteutettu uusi liiketoimintasuunnitelma johdon työkaluksi Finacon Oy:lle. Vanha ranskalaisin viivoin tehty liiketoimintasuunnitelma päivitettiin tähän päivään ja sen myötä selkeytettiin yrityksen tulevaisuuden suunnitelmia. Jatkuvasti muuttuvilla rahoitus- ja pääomamarkkinoilla reagointikyvyn täytyy olla nopeaa ja osa suunnitelluista toimenpiteistä onkin jo toteutuksessa. The legislation concerning instant credit law and the necessity of its development Purpose of our thesis is to research the legislation of the instant credit law and the necessity of its development. Our work is divided to two main points. We familiarize ourselves to instant credit general and specific regulation, which we examine from a juridical point of view and study the need to develop the legislation of instant credit from a legal policy aspect. The key research problems where we were looking for answers in our thesis were: is the current instant credit law legislation sufficient, considering from different viewpoints? Which future changes should possibly be made in our legislation, concerning instant credits? In the theoretical part of our thesis we clarify legislation and reforming the legislation of instant credit, from which the latest legislative reformations are from 2010. In our work we study the regulation of the European Union and Swedish legislation of instant credit. We pay attention to the differences between Finnish and Swedish instant credit legislation. We open up instant credit as a concept and explain how to apply for instant credit in practice. In our thesis we examine the history and the current situation of instant credit in Finland. We interview representatives of different authorities from: Swedish Ministry of Justice, Finnish Ministry of Justice, Finland small loan Association, the Consumer agency and Agency X, concerning the need to develop the instant credit legislation. We do not publish individual statements of officers in our thesis, but merely consider the possibilities, advantages and disadvantages of development suggestions, that come out from the interviews. In our work we also use as a salient material the Ministry of Justice’s Instant credit 2011 –workgroup’s reflection: “Changing the instant credit legislation”. We limit the theme of our thesis thus, that we cover the need of legislative development of instant credit only from authorities’ point of view....

Storage plan for a converter station in EstLink2-project. Case: Siemens Osakeyhtiö This Bachelor’s thesis is an assignment related to practical training. The assignment was to plan a warehouse for converter station in EstLink2 electricity transmission link project. The significant electricity transmission link is going to be built between Finland and Estonia. The budget of the project is 320 million euros. Siemens Ltd is going to build two converter stations for this project. The theoretical part of this thesis is based on two different theoretical approaches: general warehouse theory and an ABC analysis for product placement. The theory of warehouses was collected from many different sources and the main focus was on theory for warehouses used in projects. The ABC analysis was used in doing the placement of the different products. Layout pictures and information about placing the products was also received from Siemens Ltd. The empirical part was made by using two different qualitative research methods: systematic observation and theme interviews. The systematic observation was carried out by visiting two ongoing substation sites. That gave concrete information about planning the warehouse and about its implementation. The theme interview questions were designed to increase understanding about problems in warehousing and the experiences of interviewees. The interviewees were three department directors, two company employees and one expert on this field of business. Interviewees were chosen based on their knowledge from different perspectives. The research methods gave useful information that could not be found from literature. The final plan of the warehouse was made by combining theory and qualitative research. This plan includes detailed placing of the products in the warehouse. The building of the converter station is going to start in May 2012 so the topic of this thesis is very acute. The thesis gives useful suggestions for the company about how to organize the warehouse in this big project....

Development of the Quality of Customer Service Case X Company’s Home Department Staff as a Developer of Customer Service The subject of this Bachelor’s is the development of customer service in the home department of business X, and the identification of issues that prevent good quality customer service in this department. The purpose of this research was to collect and analyse information acquired through customer service, so that improvements can be made in this area. The theoretical framework consists of a customer-oriented approach to customer service, and theories on service quality. In the light of this research it was important to define what is meant by customer service, and what the elements of customer-oriented service are. The research method is qualitative and the elected research subject is the sales personnel in business X’s home department. They work in customer service every day, and thus gain plenty of customer information. We wanted to study especially those individuals who possess a lot of information relevant to this study. The research was conducted through a questionnaire. The questionnaires were distributed in the home department’s employees’ rest area, and they could be returned anonymously to a box. The answers where collected over a period of two weeks, so that all those wishing to participate had a chance to fill in the questionnaire. The results of this research show that the department has plenty of room for development and change. The major challenge was thought to be the insufficient number of customer service staff. The small number of cashiers was problematic. Many suggestions for improvement were obtained through this study, and these deserve attention in the future and thus active customer service is minimal in this department. Training should be arranged on a regular basis and attended by all customer service staff members of this department so that they could more easily provide good customer service....

Developing access control systems and practices in the Laurea University of Applied Sciences The objective of this thesis is to map the present state of play as regards the access control of different local units of Laurea University of applied sciences and to present models for its further development. The thesis addresses the possibilities provided by technical access control systems to improve the security of the university premises. The approach to using an electronic access control system is based on the need to limit the access and movements of outside visitors on the premises of the university. The purpose is to ensure the security of the staff, students and visitors of the local units of the university and to protect the property. The content of the thesis focuses on the presentation of the local units of Laurea university of applied sciences, the introduction to the operating principles and practices of the electronic access control system, the legislation covering access control systems and the evaluation of the present state of play as regards security of the local units and suggestions for its further development. The access control system-relevant guidelines drafted by the central government steering committee on data security (VAHTI), set up by the Ministry of Finances, have been taken into account in this thesis. These guidelines address data security recommendations and rules to be applied within central government administrations. The access control system is one of the electronic security systems that can be installed to protect the property and people. Nevertheless this system alone cannot guarantee the overall security of the property. Comprehensive benefits can be obtained by connecting the access control system to other security systems such as burglar alarm and video surveillance devices. It is also possible to integrate the work time monitoring system to the access control system. In this thesis, I set out briefly these different options and the benefits they can offer. Even if different electronic security systems, linked to structural anti-burglary measures, make it easier to protect premises, they do not replace the contribution the users of premises can bring to creating a culture of security. Even a good security system does not serve its purpose if it is not used in an appropriate way. Therefore, one can not underestimate the importance of an adequate training of the users to familiarize them with the functioning of the security system. The views of the end-users of the technical access control system, in the present case the staff and students of Laurea University of applied sciences were collected through a survey to which replied 158 staff members and 633 students. The views of the end-users are analyzed in this thesis based on the feed-back received through the survey....

Was it profitable to start a pop-up shop? A case study of Company X This thesis was commissioned by Company X, which operates in the importing and wholesale of groceries. Company X’s product range consists of gourmet food products and toiletries. Company X also has an online shop for consumers, and in December 2011 it opened a pop-up store. A pop-up store is a short-term space for retailing e.g. during Christmas season or to promote new concepts. The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the profitability of the pop-up store. The theoretical section of the thesis examines the concept of profitability and introduces several calculations of profitability, including the income statement, cash flow statement, profit margin statement and financial statement. The theoretical section discusses the field of retailing during 2009-2011and the pop-up phenomenon. The objective of the empirical section was to compile the profitability calculations and to analyze them. As a result of this study, the pop-up shop was judged not to be profitable. The calculations express that costs were manageable, but the turnover remained below expectations and the revenue was negative. Company X was given advice on methods of increasing the revenue to a positive figure. Suggestions for improvement were introduced concerning the positioning of the pop-up store, the marketing of the pop-up project and methods of promoting sales....
