Handbook of a new employee, Case Nooa Savings Bank The purpose of this thesis was to gather the fundamental information about banking and banking services and assemble them to a concise handbook to make a new employee’s learning process easier. After completing practical training in Nooa Savings Bank, it was discovered that the learning material for new employees was lacking and detached. Information was situated in many locations and it was difficult to fully comprehend Nooa’s variety of services and directives. This is why Nooa Savings Bank gave an assignment to create a consistent handbook about banking and executing banking services in Nooa Savings Bank. The handbook for a new employee was also intended to function as an information directory for the old employees in Nooa Savings Bank. Banking is a continuously changing, closely regulated and wide branch. Credit institution legislation creates the basis for bank regulation and EU directives and regulations have a constant impact on banks’ operations and products. For example SEPA (Single Euro Payments Area) and the law of payments which comes into order on May 1st 2010, cause several changes. Finnish banks are under the Financial Supervisory Authority’s, the Ministry of Finance’s and the Bank of Finland’s supervision. The thesis was started by exploring banking and the Finnish financial market in general and studying Nooa Savings Bank’s history and functions. The most important terms and regulations which affect the employee’s daily work, were gathered in the thesis report. After that, the making of the handbook for a new employee was approached from the point of view of learning. Different learning styles were observed when planning of the handbook was started. After the learning process, Nooa Savings Bank’s whole variety of services was presented and the most important instructions and manuals were linked to the handbook. The sources of this thesis were internet sources and literature sources concerning banking and learning. The latest information was assured by using several internet sources. The most important sources related to banking were internet sites and articles by the Federation of Finnish Financial Services, the Financial Supervisory Authority and the Bank of Finland. The evaluation of the finished handbook was executed by making a survey for the employees of Nooa Savings Bank and by analysing the employer’s feedback. The survey was sent via email to the handbook’s potential users such as cashiers and funding and investment specialists. It appeared in the survey’s results that there was a need for the handbook and the potential users could use it in their everyday work. The employer’s feedback was also very positive. The handbook was regarded as a useful tool and hopefully it will be used and updated also in the future....

Men and cosmetics marketing- Case Sokos The purpose of the thesis was to study and compare the comsumption of cosmetics by men and the impact of cosmetics advertising on male consumers at the cosmetics department Sokos, in Helsinki. In addition to opinions on advertising, the thesis also investigates men´s attitudes to other factors that affect their decision to buy cosmetics, such as packaging and place of purchase. The thesis was commissioned by Sokos, Helsinki. The theoretical frame of reference used in the study is a model of means of competition within marketing, a marketing mix or 4P's, which consists of Product, Price, Promotion and Place. However, price has been excluded from the theoretical frame of reference because the questionnaire does not include this means of competition. In the theoretical section the theory of quantitative research has also been used, and an attempt has been made to illustrate the basic characteristics of this type of study. The portion of the study for drawing up the questionnaire and of the methods used in analysing the material has also been included in the theoretical frame of reference. The material was analysed by frequency distributions, correlation coefficients and cross-tabulation. The reliability of the conclusions was estimated mainly by the P value of Spearman´s correlation coefficient. The empirical section of the study took the form of a survey confined to male customers at the cosmetics department of Sokos, Helsinki. The material derived from the survey was studied quantitatively by selecting a simple random sample of 90 persons from among the customers. After this the material was analysed by using the statistical programme SPSS 16.0. The study resulted in a conclusion of how the male customers of the target company see the advertising that is addressed to them. The findings of the study showed that the men who participated in the study considered personal service important as to what they chose to buy, and that advertising through different channels does not practically affect their choice. From the findings it can be concluded that Sokos should invest in personal service for men and, as regards older men, in offering Finnish products....
