Job motivation The objective of the thesis in general got its initiative in the need of the target company to find out what was the level of their project workers motivation and job satisfaction. This information was needed to figure out details and also bigger units of concern that need to be improved in the near future. The thesis bites firmly on the factors affecting the employee motivation as well as employee satisfaction within the temporary staffing units’ employees. The tools used to study these terms have been motivation and expectation value theories as well as the case study itself. In addition the thesis clarifies the special features of temporary staffing business since it’s necessary for the reader to understand the whole picture. What makes the questionnaire study relevant is that the project workers of the target com-pany are the factors of production for the company. This makes them an indispensable factor in the production chain. The employee motivation and satisfaction has a direct influence on the employees’ permanency and ability to feel up to work. If the target company isn’t able to keep the project workers committed enough to finish the projects they start it will cause not only uneconomical business for the target company but also slim chances of getting new business opportunities with the customer in the future. As the competition within this field of business is hardening it is crucially important to take good care of the project workers as well as their motivation and satisfaction. The base of the thesis commences from motivation and needs theories. Based on these theo-ries the questionnaire form was built. The questionnaire was sent to the project personnel in electronically during 2009. The target company itself has also defined also many of the ques-tions that they wanted to get answers to with this questionnaire. The base for the actual questionnaire was defined by the target as well as the theories used in the thesis. The actual questionnaire form was built electronically and sent to the receivers by a link attached to an e-mail. The respondents had two weeks to reply and a reminder was sent by a short message two days before the questionnaire expired. The results from the questionnaire were available directly after the deadline had passed. The feedback from the project workers didn’t really include any big surprises r anything unex-pected. Mist of the answers only confirmed the feedback the consultants had received al-ready previously. The respondents had answered delightfully voluble to the open fields and through these fields the target company received a lot of valuable development ideas. These answers were gone through with the management of the target company in detail. Based on the answers an action plan was made to efficiently improve the employee satisfaction as well as employee motivation among the project personnel. The action plan will be followed through during year 2010....

What Brings Success in Exports and Internationalisation? The Success Factors of the Recipients of Internationalisation Awards Given by the President of the Republic of Finland The topic and target phenomenon of this Bachelor´s thesis was based on developing working life and the success factors of the internationalisation of small and medium enterprises. In particular, the work focused on looking for successful service enterprises and the success factors behind their internationalisation. The thesis was confined to concern Finnish small and medium-sized enterprises. The aim of the work was to chart factors common to the internationalisation of successful Finnish small and medium enterprises. These shared factors were sought in the choices the enterprises had made in their export strategies. The objective of the theoretical frame of reference of the work was to find an explanation to the concepts of the target phenomenon and to explain connections between the concepts. Internationalisation as well as the reasons and conditions for it, internationalisation strategies, success and success factors were also discussed. The study took the form of a qualitative case study, and the material was collected by analysis of written material. The target enterprises comprised the enterprises which had, during the past three years, received internationalisation awards granted by the President of the Republic of Finland. These nine enterprises were as follows: Etteplan Oy, Proventia Emission Control Oy, Mobile Monday event concept, Avant Tecno Oy, Napa companies, Sunit Oy, Tekla Oyj, Reachlaw Oy and Muxlim Oy. The findings showed that the central success factors of the case enterprises were strategic and technological factors and network factors. Among the strategic factors, the most important were the competence of staff and a client-oriented approach, and among the technological factors, good technical competence of the staff and the technological excellence of the product. Concerning network factors, the most essential were successful network formation and network functioning. Other essential things that stood out were innovativeness, open work environment and Finland´s good international reputation. Regarding service enterprises, the findings emphasized especially the importance of technological competence, the viewpoints of network formation, innovativeness and Finland´s good and neutral reputation in the world. It was concluded that the inner success factors of an enterprise affect successful internation-alisation more than outer factors. Strategic, technological and network factors became the critical success factors in case enterprises. It can be inferred from the findings that the utilization of network formation, innovations and technological competence is becoming a new success factor. Topics for further research could be the implementation of the same study as an enquiry of fixed form, the adaptation of the findings to practice in the training provided by enterprises as well as carrying out a study in the small and medium-sized enterprises situated near Lohja Laurea....

Planning A New Business Model Utilizing Information Logistics After rapid development of the Internet, E-commerce is getting more and more essential for most companies and in many cases business is based entirely on E-commerce. The growth of E-commerce has been powerful and steady over the last few years because customers’ trust and willingness to use online stores has strengthened. Even smaller specialized shops have to stay in the pace of the rapid development if they like to stay competitive in the global markets. This research was executed as an assignment for two companies, Helsinki Spey Clave Ltd. and Vision Group Ltd. The research is concentrating more on Helsinki Spey Clave which is a retailer of fly-fishing equipment. Helsinki Spey Clave sells fly-fishing brand Vision as one of their main brands. As the E-commerce has grown rapidly, Finnish fishing retailers are nowadays operating on global markets where competition is tough and new ways to operate are crucial. The main goal of this research is to find out how a retailer and a supplier could offer supplier’s whole range of products to the customer with real time stock balances with the help of an online store. As the retailer has no chances to keep whole range in stock, the solution model must be found on information logistics and its ability to forward reliable and up-to-date information. The implementation of the research plan includes comparing the present information system with new comprehensive information systems. It is clear that the new information system is an investment also for the future while updating old systems will last only some years. The implementation plan includes versatile information of implementation and the necessary modifications in the supply chain. The research guides both companies to concentrate on crucial and important issues when choosing a new information system. This research builds a strong basis for both companies to discuss opportunities in E-commerce and new information systems....

Cost calculation of high school courses Case: Hyvinkää Sveitsi Upper Secondary School The objective of this thesis was to calculate the costs caused by each course and student in Hyvinkää Sveitsi Upper Secondary School. The school needs information on the costs for different purposes but the aim of these calculations is especially facilitate pricing when courses or study places are offered to students from other schools. One main factor in cost calculation is comparison of different calculation methods and pricing techniques in order to make the results as reliable as possible and useful for the right purposes. This is why this thesis also deals with different ways to divide and classify costs for the basis of pricing calculations. The study examines both generally and from a theoretical point of view different approaches and models used in cost calculation and applies these techniques in practice for the needs of this case. High school’s final accounts of the year 2008 were used as the source material. The result based on material that was available for the thesis, was a course price that is reasonable considering the goal of its use. The study came to a conclusion that actual course prices can not be based on final accounts calculations. However, the study creates good groundings for more precise pricing calculations that can be made if more extensive source material was available for use....

An assessment of the management of employment obligations relating to redundant workers (a case study of Valio Ltd) The purpose of this thesis is to analyze how Valio Ltd managed its co-operation in the spring of 2009. In the analysis based on Finnish law Valio Ltd is compared to another Finnish company selected for this thesis. These two companies have distributed their written instructions to the personnel about their strategy and customs for co-operation as well as their different application forms. In this thesis a qualitative research method has been used involving in-depth interviews of representatives of the two companies. Two interviews in Valio Ltd and one interview in the other company were made to get information about the co-operation negotiations, the length and overall practice of the process. The main focus concerned the obligation to offer jobs to employees, complying with the notice period and the obligation to re-employ. The theoretical outline of the thesis is based on the Finnish law of Co-operation Act, the Contracts of Employment Act and written sources (books, internet) relating to the subject. In the fourth part conclusions are made of the ratio of the number of redundancies at Valio Ltd compared to Public Limited Companies and other Finnish Private limited companies by shares. These companies held their co-operation negotiations last spring. The fifth part consists of ideas that may help Valio Ltd to develop their processes concerning co-operation and to make follow up research connected to the topic of the thesis. The results that have been concluded are that Valio Ltd paid attention to all of the issues legally required. The personnel were taken care of very well and in fact above the standard that was legally required. The summary of the objective part of the thesis includes some diagrams on which the conclusions have been based.
