Project to Develop PYR-Reporting: Case Orion Corporation Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is part of a company’s strategy, and defines how it interacts with its surrounding society and stakeholders. In the 21th century, CSR has become important for companies because people are interested in knowing how companies handle their economic, social and ecological responsibility. Pakkausalan ympäristörekisteri PYR Oy is a Finnish company helping companies who operate in the Finnish market to follow up amount of packaging waste. The companies who are members of PYR are asked to report the amounts of their packaging waste in the annual PYR-report. This research was made as an assignment for Orion Corporation, a Finnish company in the medical industry that develops and markets medicines. The aim of this research was to create a necessary framework for an electric reporting database that could calculate the data of the needed packing material directly to Orion’s Enterprise resource planning system (ERP). This data will be used for calculating the exact packaging material weights and volumes required for the annual PYR-reporting. Collecting the data was planned in close co-operation with Orion’s Information Management (IM)-department. There were two parts; first, the products that are packaged by Orion and second, the products that are packaged abroad by partners. It was possible to collect the packaging material data for 99% of the products that are packaged by Orion and for the 70% of the products that are packaged abroad by partners. The obtained data was transferred to Orion’s ERP system. For the rest of the products the data will be updated in spring 2010. The optimum would be that by the end of year 2010 the data for PYR-report could be calculated directly from the ERP system and that the results of the packaging material volumes should be accurate. It is important that the report is automatic and that it can be used also in the future. This requires that the data must be updated in the ERP system when new materials are created or old materials are changed. The responsible persons for maintaining and updating this data should be named. The implementation of the reporting tool will take place during spring 2010 and it will be exe-cuted by Orion’s IM-department. After this, the tool will be tested and evaluated. In the best case scenario, the reporting enhances Orion’s business and it can be used widely in the com-pany. The optimum is that the results can also be used in Orion’s CSR-reporting and in invent-ing better, more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly packages....

Facilitating Shifts Planning: Case Humanlink Finland Oy The purpose of this thesis was to describe the shifts planning and implementation process at Humanlink Finland Oy. The introduction of a new information system was an idea that would facilitate the planning of shifts. The objective was to examine the development proposal on the basis of the method shifts planning. The theoretical study comprises the usability, user-oriented way of operating work shifts and difficulties of rental work. The theoretical framework is limited to investigate the way in developing a proposal for the scheduling / execution-process. The research concentrates on investigating and developing a user-driven way of performing scheduling and thereby facilitating the planning of work shifts. The main reason for this research was a new information system which was introduced and a wish to try to develop it further. In this thesis, a development proposal and its benefits are presented. The aim is to provide a picture of what the employees appreciate in working shifts and what pros or cons they see in the development project. The thesis has both qualitative and quantitative aspects of the research and it was carried out in the spring of 2010. The questionnaire reached 79 per cent of the employees. Three employees were interviewed by telephone in order to provide deeper answers. In addition, an information developer was interviewed to obtain information on the costs of a development proposal and how long it would take time to do it. He was interviewed in person. The research results show that the scheduling now is at a good level. Development proposal would give added value to Humanlink and it received good feedback. Employees liked the idea that they can choose their own shifts. They feel that the selection of shifts is good, because then it is possible to choose maybe more shifts than usual. The employees still had concerns about their future shifts, mainly because it was unclear for them how the shift requests would be accepted. This study showed that the current scheduling is good, but the workers would still like some changes. They hoped that they can influence their shifts. This model in the development proposal would make it possible. This would be an effective way to plan one’s own shifts. When workers are part of the planning process, Humanlink would provide better orders for the customer and have from all the workers their best potential in use....

Claims for compensation of the injured party and their debate in district court I executed my legal apprentice training period for Bachelor of Business Administration studies in district court of Hyvinkää in year 2008 serving as office secretary and my thesis was done for the district court. I handle claims for compensation of injured party in criminal case which are based on crime and their handling in district court in my thesis. The classification of damages is not straightforward and often damage which will be compensated will be classified in different ways in specific cases. As a principal rule damages could be classified as personal injuries, material damages, property damages, damages for a holder of incorporeal rights and damages which are related to environmental harm. Classification can also be done in immaterial and material as well as consequential and direct damages. Determination of adjudicated amount of compensation requires a case-specific consideration from court of justice and there legislation, legal praxis as well as various recommendations and directions can be applied. My thesis consists of two sections. In the first section I consider the concept of injured party, classification of damages, determination of compensation, handling of claims for compensation in various chapters of criminal procedure and the black spots appearing in handling of claims for compensation. In the theory section I have used laws and legal literature as well as recommendations of The Advisory Board for Personal Injuries for source of information. Interviews with the staff of the district court and own experiences and observations have also been used for providing the required information. The second section of the thesis includes the directions for the injured party and was the result of the functional part of the thesis....
