Many Finnish companies are facing the top of retirement in the near future, some of them even this year. Knowhow has been a Finnish strength, but when the Post-World War II baby boom is retiring there is remarkable risk that an organization will lose a big part its skills which are based on experiences. How companies will manage to keep the same level of expertise, especially when concerning tacit knowledge. Tacit knowledge is the dimension of knowledge that is hard to recognize and transfer to another person and it is seen as strength of ageing people. Case organisation is Company X Plc and one of its units which operate in IT area. Case unit is facing the challenge of tacit knowledge starting from this year. The research problem is to clarify how organisations can keep the tacit knowledge inside the organisation, even when the baby boom is retiring. Sub-problem is to find out what impact tacit knowledge management has on acknowledgement and transferring of tacit knowledge. One of the sub-problems is the distortion in Finnish age-class distribution. That is the phenomenon where generation of 40 years old is smaller than the other age groups. It has been noticed that it has some impact on the result how organizations manage with their knowledge transmission between people. The research in the thesis is strongly connected to the theoretical context but it also has features from functional theses because the purpose is to produce some proposals to develop tacit knowledge sharing. The method used in the research is qualitative and its material consists of an electronic inquiry and individual interviews. The most important factor that stood out from the research is that the personnel in the case unit has acknowledged the challenge of tacit knowledge. The acknowledgement of tacit knowledge is the most important phase in tacit knowledge management so we can make the conclusion that the case unit has great possibilities to survive tacit knowledge transferring. Functional tools of tacit knowledge sharing are learning from experts’ actions, knowledge sharing circle and documentation. The research showed that the barrier in sharing tacit knowledge is daily time pressure. Staff planning is seen as a potential solution to meet that challenge....

The Significance of Work in Trade Industry The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis was to study the significance of work in trade industry and namely the circumstances affecting the significance of work positively and decreasing the experience of work significance. The study was based on qualitative methods. Approximately 135 people worked at the target company in 2008. Six trade industries employees were interviewed for the study. The target group of this thesis was employees who work in stores. The theoretical background discusses the significance of work, work welfare and work satisfaction and how these are connected to one another in the perspective of motivation. The trade industry is introduced in addition to the theory from the study based on the Finnish Institute of Occupational Health together with the Service Union United (PAM) and the Federation of Finnish Commerce and the tasks of store employers. Work satisfaction is also discussed based on the studied target company´s work satisfaction research results from 2007. The study discovered that the employees require independent and responsible work. Also working with one´s interesting affairs brings significance and feeling of expertise to work. The employees experience that the greatest challenge was the lack of works variability and flow of information as well as meagerness in feedback. The working conditions were experienced as good; although in physically heavy work physical welfare is sometimes under much strain....

Endogenous factors as an engine for company growth: The Handbook of Growth The thesis Endogenous factors as an engine for company growth: The Handbook of Growth focuses on at the importance, usage and implementation of a company’s inner processes (focusing on corporate culture, inner marketing and communication, training and management systems). This thesis is based on a small entrepreneur company’s (Mezera Ltd) need for clear working models, which are easy to understand and implement throughout the organization. Mezera Ltd commissioned a manual to help the company to define its processes and build a strong foundation for the company to build on. One of the most important aspects in this thesis is the easy-to-read style to better serve the reader. The examples used are from the real business world and the assignments in the handbook build an entirety ment to facilitate everyday work. Each topic is further discussed using special theoretical examples (for example. Dr. R. Cialdini’s survey on purchase psychology). For the sake of clarity, these examples are all written by using examples from the real life. “Why is this important?” part gives the reader a good view on the topics’ philosophy behind the theoretical model. In addition, some examples from the largest busi-ness training company Trainers’ House Plc. are also used. The thesis has provided Mezera Ltd with a manual for everyday leading. With the help of the manual, Mezera Ltd has been able to change its processes in a more efficient direction. Due to the short time the manual has been in use, the results are not yet clearly visible. The direction, however, is right. The first changes have concerned quality, ways of working as well as influencing behavioural models. Realization and overall acknowledging of the factors examined in the thesis are the key for the entrepreneurs’ growth as a person, leader and employer....

”Kenen tahdissa tänään tanssitaan?” - Tutkimus iskelmätanssiviihteen ohjelmapalveluista

Opinnäytetyönä tehtiin tutkimus iskelmätanssiviihteen ohjelmapalveluista. Toimeksiantajana toimi suomalainen ohjelmatoimisto, jolla oli tarve tutkia sidosryhmiensä toimintaa parantaakseen omaa liiketoimintaansa ja markkinointiansa. Työn tarkoituksena on selvittää ajankohtainen tieto siitä, mitä mieltä sen asiakkaat eli tanssienjärjestäjät ovat ohjelmatoimistojen toiminnasta, ohjelmatoimistojen välittämistä esiintyjistä, sekä toimijoiden välisestä yhteistyöstä.
Teoriaosuus muodostuu verkostojen ja yhteistyön merkityksestä markkinoinnissa sekä palvelujen markkinoinnista. Verkostojen toimintaa ja yhteistyötä on työn kannalta oleellista käydä läpi, koska niiden merkitys ja hyödyt saattavat usein jäädä muun toiminnan varjoon. Yhteistyö on nykypäivänä yrityksille elintärkeä elementti, jolla saavutetaan mittavia etuja markkinointitoiminnoissa. Palvelujen markkinointia käsitellään teoriaosuudessa sen ominaispiirteiden takia varsin asiakkuuslähtöisestä näkökulmasta, minkä tarkoituksena on luoda perinteisten kilpailuetujen rinnalle uutta näkemystä, jossa asiakas on aina toiminnan lähtökohtana. Markkinoinnin kilpailukeinot saatetaan teoriaosuudessa siis uuteen, asiakas- ja palvelulähtöiseen asetelmaan.
Tutkimus toteutettiin kesällä 2009 sekä kvantitatiivisessa että kvalitatiivisessa muodossa. Ensimmäisessä vaiheessa tehtiin esitutkimus, jonka tarkoituksena oli tutustuttaa tutkija aiheeseen, jotta saatiin muodostettua tarkoituksenmukainen ja oikeilla käsitteillä kulkeva kyselylomake. Toisessa vaiheessa kyselylomake lähetettiin kaikille Suomessa toimiville tanssienjärjestäjille, joiden yhteystiedot on löydettävissä Internetistä. Kysely lähetettiin lopulta 170 tanssienjärjestäjälle sekä sähköisesti e-lomakkeella että kirjeitse ja vastauksia saatiin 82 kappaletta. Tulokset esiteltiin ja analysoitiin lopuksi Exceliä apuna käyttäen.
Tutkimuksen tuloksista selvisi se, että ohjelmatoimistojen, esiintyjien ja tanssienjärjestäjien yhteistyössä oli paljon ongelmakohtia, jotka johtuivat pitkälti tarkkaan mietityn markkinointiviestinnän puutteesta. Tanssienjärjestäjät eivät myöskään olleet kovin asiakasuskollisia ja keskittyivät pitkälti hintalähtöisiin tekijöihin esiintyjien ja ohjelmatoimistojen valinnassa. Ilmeni myös se, että alalla ei ole uskallettu vielä siirtyä mainonnan suhteen sähköisiin medioihin, jolloin nykypäivän uusien kanavien tuomat hyödyt eivät pääse esille. Esiintyjiä tutkittaessa tuloksista saatiin muodostettua konkreettinen työkalu siitä, keihin esiintyjiin tulisi keskittyä, jos haetaan nousevia, kannattavia esiintyjiä. Tutkijan kehitysehdotuksina ohjelmatoimistolle on vahvempi asiakkuusajatteluun siirtyminen ja palvelun arvon nostaminen sekä uskollisuuden lisääminen asiakaskunnassa....

Attractions and quality of rural housing The goal of this thesis was to study the factors which make people move to the countryside. Our purposes were to find out why people move to the country and what they would develop in their own residential environment. We were especially interested in the expectations of the movers and how they were fulfilled. One participant and orderer of the work was MAL co-operation of Länsi-Uudenmaa. The abbreviation MAL refers to better consolidation of the use of land, living and traffic in the area. One goal of the co-operation is increasing the co-operation of the involved municipalities and utilizing the moving flow coming from the metropolitan area. The information base in the work was researches of the subject published in the 2000s. In addition, we utilized a few earlier theses closely related to the subject. With the help of the researches, we created a theory base for the study. Collecting observation material for the study was executed through questionnaires. With the help of the forms, the purpose was to find out the opinions the people who had moved to the countryside in Länsi-Uudenmaa region within the last five years. Planning the form was done as a co-operation with a MAL co-coordinator. The finished forms were mailed to 2,427 rural residents. Approximately 300 questionnaires were returned and these were analyzed by describing and explaining the attraction factors. According to the research results, the majority of people moving to the countryside were families with children or elderly couples nearing the retirement age. The results of the study showed that those who moved to the country were searching for the closeness of nature and peace. The wider living space provided by the countryside had tempted them to move away from the city. People moving to the country hoped for better public transport connections for their area and, in addition, they hoped that the level of services could be as high as in the metropolitan area. The results of the questionnaire are meant to be utilized as a background material in compiling the Länsi-Uudenmaa MAL co-operation program during the year 2010. The results are meant to be used as an aid when planning Länsi-Uudenmaa region as a more attractive area from the mover´s point of view and, in addition, in when improving the residential environment of the people already living in the area....
