Simulation Project on Production Strategies This Bachelor’s thesis examines the optimal production strategy of Company x. The thesis is based on a production simulation project, which was implemented at the target company´s production facilities in spring 2010. The operating environment of daily goods trading and the supply chain are illustrated in the thesis to verify the chosen production strategy. The information of the study was collected by participating observation which was used in two different ways. In the production simulation project the implemented observation was active and in the study of the changes of the supply chain the observation was passive. The theory selection deals with production strategies, operation research and minimizing the costs of production. The theory section aims at giving the reader a better picture of the operations and phenomena that the study is about. The study managed to simulate an optimal production strategy for the company x and uncover problems in operations. The conclusion of the study is that according to the production strategy, company x has to enlarge lot sizes to keep the service level. The study also revealed that the weakening of the demand information will become a very critical factor in choosing of the production strategy....

Survey Of Worksatisfaction PuistoBlues 2009 Järvenpää Blues&Jazz Diggarit Registered Association. The objective of this thesis was to plan, develop and execute an inquiry, which gives a well-defined database of voluntary employees’ work satisfaction. The target was to get good material for the execu¬tive committee of Järvenpään Blues & Jazz Diggarit Registered Asso-ciation in their decision-making situations and for developing the work climate of the voluntary workers of the festival. The task of the project was to produce a survey on work satisfaction, with which the well being of the Human resource literature was used in theory section of thesis. Especially work satisfaction and familiarizing orientation were included in the framework. The survey was executed for volunteer workers, so that first the response personnel received the questionnaires and they delivered them to their own volunteer workers. An analysis of the survey and the development suggestions will help the executive committee to improved the work satisfaction of their volunteer workers in the summers to come. As the results of thesis the level of work satisfaction was shown and some improvement propositions were introduced. Voluntary workers can be evaluated according to their wishes. YES-Center’s plan of action An entrepreneur can be often described as a risk taker and a person who makes things happen. There are two kinds of entrepreneurship. The traditional entrepreneur owns his own enterprise and makes all the decisions by himself. The inner entrepreneur is working for somebody else but works like he is working in his own enterprise. The main goal for entrepreneurship education is to get the youth to understand and internalize the attitude, knowledge and skills that are associated with an entrepreneur. These are useful when he is working on his own or in somebody else’s enterprise. This scholarly thesis discusses the entrepreneurship education from the Kanta-Häme’s YES-Center’s point of view. The YES-Center provides today’s entrepreneurship education services for schools and enterprises. The purpose is to expand entrepreneurship education to schools and get the teachers and enterprises more exited about it. This work provides to Kanta-Häme’s YES-Center with a plan of action that will help improve the entrepreneurship education up better. I have tried to include plenty of useful advises in this work. These advices should get the students and the teachers more exited about entrepreneurship education. In this scholarly thesis I have used as a theoretical base entrepreneurship education literature and Internet sources. The theoretical base discusses general entrepreneurship and the qualities. After that follows a discussion on entrepreneurship education, Finnish National Board of Education’s plan of action for entrepreneurship education and in general how entrepreneurship should be taught. The plan of action is divided for every month. Every month the matters under consideration are: teacher and student education, marketing and principals and entrepreneurs meetings. I have tried to keep the plan of action simple so that all the main points can be found easily. I hope that the plan of action is useful and gives many new ideas for the YES-Center which they can use in the future....

Generation changeover – Case Tilitoimisto Oy Generation changeovers are very current in companies at the moment. The great generations are starting to move their business to their offsprings and the speed will just grow during next years. This thesis is focusing on the tax consequences which are result of the generation changeover. These consequences are observed for the company, the owner and the successor. The material of the theory section consists of the litterature of the subject, the legislation and internet sources. The information of the case, Tilitoimisto Oy, has been collected from the company’s accounting information and by interweaving the company’s owner. In the case is a research of the opportunities for the generation changeover and its tax conse-quences for Tilitoimisto Oy . The best alternative was found out with calculations. The calculations showed that there is both bad and good opportunities to carry out the generation change over for Tilitoimisto Oy. There isn’t any one and right way to carry out the generation changeover and that’s why it can be done in many different ways. The aim of the process is to find a compromise solution that satisfies all parties. Also in the case the final solution will found out later in the conversations between the parties. Methods to Decrease Short-term absences from work The purpose of this scholarly thesis is to study how and by what means different organizations are decreaseing short-therm absences from work of their employees and how they implement their short term absence management. The target organizations were the following departments in Helsinki City´s social services: management and development and eldery services, Healt care-centre´s home care services. Also Nordea, Seniorisäätiö and Organization X were target organizations. The study problem is to find about the methods the organisations have when decreaseing short-term absences from work. The study questions focus on the main reasons for absences from work, the direction where the absences from work have developed within the last few years, the costs of the absences from work and the methods that there are to decrease the absences. This scholarly thesis is a qualitative research and the method for gathering information was half structured theme interviews. The study is based on the management perspective of the companies and organizations. Based on the interviews and the theory, functionality of a work community, good work satisfaction and discussive culture in an organization gives a good bases for a well working method to deal with absence from work. This can be achieved by successful management. Leadership must be continually supported and developed to maintain a functional working environment. It is also important to pay attention to human relations skills. To be able to decrease sickness absences the co-operation with a competent occupational healthcare center is very important. There is a possibility to create new models through well working co-operation. The purpose of an early caring model is to find a reason for short-term absences by discussing between employee and employer. With a little effort this model can be a good part of organizations normal operations....

Electronic invoicing and document filing – Case Marmorikynttilä Ltd Electronic financial administration is a growing trend and the process has been in progress through the beginning of the 21st century. According to many experts in the field, paper invoices have no future and electronic invoicing will soon be common practice in every company. An increasing number of larger companies have already moved from paper invoices to electronic invoicing, which is forcing smaller companies to follow. Even though many companies have realized the benefits of e-invoicing, it also causes additional costs and complicated changes, which has been slowing down the enthusiasm for smaller companies to activate electronic invoicing. This thesis concentrates on the issue of moving from paper invoices to electronic invoicing. E-invoicing enables electronic document filing, which is also included in the thesis. The thesis consists of a theoretical section and a development task section. The theoretical section of the thesis introduces and describes electronic invoicing in general. It describes the development of e-invoicing and introduces different electronic invoicing formats. It also highlights some essential problems, challenges, and benefits of e-invoicing. The development task section explores e-invoicing from the perspective of a small candle manufacturing company called Marmorikynttilä Ltd. The purpose of this thesis was to describe the steps of successfully moving towards e-invoicing at the above-mentioned company. The objective was to study if the new invoicing software would also enable traditional invoices in addition to the e-invoices. It was also crucial to recognize the needs and requirements of the customers. The results indicated that different customers’ requirements for invoicing vary and it is therefore impossible for Marmorikynttilä Ltd. to activate the electronic invoicing with all of them at the same time. It is important for a company to choose the right e-invoicing solution and operator. Finnish banks and many IT-service companies provide a wide range of invoicing services. With regard to this development task, it was relevant to compare different solutions from the viewpoint of small and medium-sized enterprises. The comparison was made by exploring some recent surveys and operators’ web pages. The research revealed that the large operators would be too expensive for a small company. Hence it was reasonable to concentrate on the services provided by the banks. Electronic invoicing and document filing could not be activated successfully in the company during this thesis project. The company should continue with a new project plan and schedule. The software chosen by the company for invoicing needs updating, which leads to a new request for quotation. The company should also consider some other software solutions and ask for an offer. The actions that were made, as well as those yet to be made before the company could get started with electronic invoicing, are listed in the results section of this thesis. Quality management and its developing, case: Viherniemi Ltd. This thesis is an activity oriented thesis. The purpose of this thesis was to examine Viherniemi Ltd.’s quality management. Our goal was also to create a quality manual and determine development suggestions for the company. Viherniemi Ltd.’s line of business is landscaping. The goal of this thesis was also a better understanding of the meaning of quality management for the business. The project was split in two. The first step of the thesis was to interview the staff of Viherniemi Ltd. This allowed us to see how the company’s quality management works and the current status of the whole company. At the same time we became acquainted with the theoretical context of quality management. Main theoretical sources were Lilrank’s, Lecklin’s and Moisio’s books. When we had a full understanding of the company’s situation of the quality management, the next step was to start creating the quality manual to the company by using the material we got from the interviews. Viherniemi Ltd. had purchased a manual of Vyl/Rakli –certificate, which worked as a guide for the quality manual. We adapted the quality manual for the needs of the company. After completing the quality manual, it was time to outline development suggestions. Quality manual includes e.g. company’s resource management, quality policy and process management. Last step of this project was to deliver all the material of the project to Viherniemi Ltd. Viherniemi Ltd. was very satisfied of the results of this project and the feedback they gave us was very positive. All the goals were reached. Viherniemi Ltd. has now an opportunity to use all the material of this project to increase the quality and make everyday working more effective. The material also gives an opportunity to apply for Vyl/Rakli –certificate. As a further study subject, it is recommended to monitor the performance of the quality manual. It is also recommended to update, extend and maintain the quality manual....

Tilaus-toimitusprosessin kehittäminen

Tämä opinnäyte työ käsittelee Yritys X:n tilaus-toimitusprosessia. Toimeksiantaja haluaa pysyä anonyyminä kiristyneen kilpailutilanteen takia ja myös siksi, että työssä kuvataan yksi sen tärkeimmistä prosesseista. Toimeksiantaja on sen vuoksi esitelty Yritys X:nä. Työssä mainitut liitteet ovat salaisia, koska ne sisältävät luottamuksellista tietoa yrityksen sopimuksista sen yhteistyökumppanien kanssa.
Lähtökohdaksi kehittämistehtävälle valittiin seuraavat kysymykset: miten parantaa tuotteen toimitusaikaa asiakkaalle sekä miten pystytään tehostamaan työtä yrityksen maakohtaisella hallintopaikalla. Näiden kysymysten pohjalta oli tarkoitus tehdä ehdotus, miten yritys saisi uudistettua tilaus–toimitusprosessia asiakaslähtöisesti ja kustannustehokkaasti.
Opinnäytetyö on toteutettu toiminta- sekä konstruktiivisena tutkimuksena ja tutkimusmenetelmänä on käytetty osallistuvaa havainnointia. Työn teoreettisessa viitekehyksessä käydään läpi liiketoimintaprosesseja ja niiden kehittämistä, prosessijohtamista, ulkoistamista sekä käsitellään myös muutosta ja sen mukana tuomia haasteita. Empiriaosuudessa kartoitetaan yrityksen nykytila koskien tilaus-toimitusprosessia, jonka pohjalta on laadittu analyysi ja ke-hittämisehdotus sen tehostamiseksi.
Nykytila-analyysin pohjalta havaittiin suuria epäkohtia tuotteen tilaus-toimitusprosessissa, pääasiassa kuljetusvaiheiden osalla. Kehitysehdotuksia syntyi kaksi, joista molemmat perustu-vat teoriaan toimitusajan tärkeydestä (TBM) ja myös hiukan sivuaa teoriaa liiketoiminnan prosessien uudistamisesta (BPR).
