Consumption Plans of Students at Laurea This thesis deals with the role of consumption in the economy. This study is focused on the private consumption of consumers. The primary purpose of the study is to define the main targets to reveal which consumers’ plans of consumption are during year 2010. The study explains how the students of Laurea University of applied sciences get and use their money. The study gives information which is useful for stores and banks. In the beginning of the thesis the consumption behaviour of consumers is explained. The study method was quantitative. The information of the study was obtained with an e-questionnaire which was sent to the students of Laurea University of applied sciences. The quantitative information was encoded and tables and graphs were made from them. After that analysis and conclusions were made on ground of the study. Finally were wrote the essay which explains the consumption behaviour of consumers. The results of the study show that the students of Laurea spend most their money on housing and energy, groceries, drinks and tobacco, clothes and footwear and traffic. They are the necessities which people usually need a lot. The salaries and study grants are the most general sources of money for the students of Laurea. In many cases they both are available for the students. Most students of Laurea get their cash available from their salaries. Usually the students of Laurea do not have plenty of money. They have to consider their consumption habits and think what things really need for their lives. For big investments, such as apartments they need to take out a loan. All expenses are kept down for example by buying second hand cars instead of new ones. According to the study almost half of the students of Laurea are planning a holiday trip during the ongoing year and almost every fifth of them is going to purchase a new mobile phone....

Written procedure in criminal cases I chose the topic of my thesis when I was working in Helsinki municipal court. No one had ever done a similar work as mine and there was a demand for it. It was still a new topic and it interested me. In addition to the above the topic that I selected was quite new for a subject in any scholarly thesis. The purpose of my thesis is to become a guide to anyone interested in written procedure in criminal cases. This work helps its reader to find out what written procedure actually means and what the purpose of the legislative reform that added a new 5a chapter to the law of proceedings in criminal cases (689/1997) was. The purpose of my work is also to bring forth the kinds of benefits and defects that the use of this process has created and show how the goals that have been set are realized. The thesis also serves the operations and personnel of Helsinki municipal court and gives them a so called external view how to develop their procedures. With the help of the presented development plans, the municipal court has a possibility to renew and diversify the procedures that already exists. My development proposals are mainly focused on showing how it is possible to improve the Helsinki municipal court and its cooperation partners’ operations and the practical problems that are related to the use of written procedure. The entity of my work and the research results have been accomplished by using literature, legislation, the laws preliminary preparations, the charts and another written material given by the Helsinki municipal court and by interviewing assistant circuit judge Eija Larinkoski from Helsinki municipal court....

The quality and improvement of the communication of the Lapinjärvi municipality from the associations' point of view The target of this thesis was to find out the quality of the communication between the Lapinjärvi municipality and associations operating in the area. Second target was to find out how do the strengths, weaknesses, possibilities and threats defined in the strategy of the municipality correspond to reality. Related to this also the resources of the associations, co-operation between the municipality and the associations and taking action in the municipality were studied. Recommendations to improve communications were also found out. The topic for this thesis was given by the municipality of Lapinjärvi. The meaning of this thesis is to support the improvement of communication and the creation process of the communication strategy of the municipality. The study was conducted as a quantitative survey by mailing a survey form to the associations operating in the Lapinjärvi municipality in the spring 2009. The target group consisted of 74 associations, 28 of which answered. The response rate was 38 %. The criteria for quality of communication presented in the theory were fulfilled quite well. As a whole the information is easy to get, communication is understandable, web site is easy to use and the image of the municipality is good. Despite of this there are issues to improve and lots of ideas for improvement were given. The clearest target is to improve interaction in the communication. Occasions where it is possible to interact should be organized, because the associations are quite eager to participate and wanted to improve interacting. The preferred channels of communication are newspapers and the web site of the municipality. Co-operation between the associations and the municipality has varied. In general it is not broad and organised. The co-operation should be improved systematically and be made more target-oriented, and so that both sides benefit as much as possible. Taking action and participating should be supported by informing about how to participate and take action. The associations clearly have potential to operate for the common good. It is a challenge to channel this potential to productive co-operation. Most of the strengths, weaknesses, possibilities and threats described in the strategy of the municipality correspond well to reality. The clearest strengths were the location near to the metropolitan area and by the road 6, the inexpensiveness to companies, bi-linguality, low living costs and country-like living environment with a beautiful nature....

Knowledge development in personal selling and the competences of an excellent salesperson in River co. Developing human resources is important, when a company seeks competitive advantage by the aid of personnel. Staff is the most important resource of a company and the know-how of the personnel affects the company’s success. Know-how is the capability and willingness to fulfil tasks by utilizing the information and abilities one has. In this way know-how enables success in work assignments. The term “competence” is often together with know-how. Competence relates to work-specific know-how, in other words competence is the compatibility between the task and knowledge. Competence can be understood as an attribute of an individual, but also as a requirement that is included in a work assignment. The know-how of the staff has a strategic role in an organization. For an organization to be successful, it has to define the needed knowledge with perspective to the future and competitive advantage in mind. The current state of know-how has to be known, so that know-how can be further developed to a new level. The “know-how survey” helps the organization to define its core competence and the current and target level of know-how. The survey helps the organization to study what needs to be done to develop the personnel so that the targeted level of competence can be reached. The subject of this thesis is knowledge development in personal selling and the competences of an excellent salesperson in River co. This thesis aims to highlight the content and meaning of core competence of the salespersons working in the Finnish clothing company River co. and the consequence of these factors towards competitive advantage and added value that the customers receive. The objective is to develop personal selling know-how among salespersons in River co. The empirical section of the thesis includes a know-how survey. This mapping was made for the salespersons and managers of River co. and it helped to discover the five most important competencies. The competencies that were discovered are sympathy, attitude and motivation, knowledge of products, controlling the sale process and willingness to serve the customers. These attributes make the River co. salesperson the best clothing seller in Finland. Sales-persons of River co. are able to gain trust of the customers and they can create long-lasting regular customer relationships. When analyzing the survey, a few special competencies could be distinguished among River co. salespersons. One of the strengths was sympathy and the personnel of River co. considered attitude and motivation to be the most important competence. The most meaningful result of the mapping for this thesis is appropriate development of know-how in personal selling from the selling process point of view. To develop personal selling know-how, the control of the selling process and stages were reviewed and demonstrated through example situations. Comprehensive knowledge of the selling process aims to create even more quality and better results in future customer encounters....
