Statement of Human Resources for Konsultointiyritys The purpose of this functional thesis was to give a general view of the personnel within Kon-sultointiyritys by carrying out a study of the working atmosphere in the company. Together with a written statement of the human resources (which consists of a human resource income statement and human recourse balance sheet). The objective of this thesis was to describe the knowledge capital of Konsultointiyritys and the structure of personnel. Additionally to create a tool for following the goals created for the personnel in the company strategy. This thesis assesses the knowledge of the personnel’s occupational health and the personnel’s conception of the working atmosphere. The theoretical basis of the thesis is based around the important elements of a statement of human resources. These are a human resource income statement, a human resource report and a human resource balance sheet. The theoretical basis also explains occupational health and matters related to contentment at work. The human resource income statement and the human resource report were conducted by gathering data from the internal reports of the company and by studying the balance sheet of the company. The research part of the thesis was conducted by an internet survey of the personnel. The result of this development project has been a written statement of its human resources for Konsultointiyritys. The study of this thesis has shown that the personnel of konsultointiyritys are generally content with their work, the management and the working environment. Personnel are content with their work and work is considered meaningful. Problem areas relating to the working atmosphere (according to this part of the study) are as follows: interference in activity which is considered against the company values, co-operation with the parent company, adjusting working life with personal life (which was considered challenging at times). The effects of the economic recession had caused some concern in relation to job security. Also at the same time the speed of work especially recovery after rush periods was also considered worrying. As a development suggestion for Konsultointiyritys (after this statement of human resources) it is recommended for the future that a statement of human resources should be conducted every second year. Additionally that the accuracy of the internal reports should be improved as well as making the use of the internal report systems a part of the personnel`s personal scorecard....

Developing end user training services in a business process development context The objective for this research and the development project was to describe how SAP Finland Oy Education should develop existing services targeted to end users. The starting point for the study was those SAP customers who had implemented SAP for developing their own business to be more efficient as well as developing their own processes. Related to the previous, the intention was also to study how well existing end user training services meet customer’s expectations. The theoretical framework consisted of organizational knowledge management and principles of improving competitiveness. Knowledge management was first reviewed from the organizational perspective and then from the individual’s perspective and from the learning point of view. The precondition for organizational competitive improvement was judged also from the process development and efficiency point of view. Training services were included in the process development context. Services development and quality improvement were explained from the customer relationship and service process perspective. The quality aspect was clarified in relation to the previous. The research approach within the project was qualitative. The target group consisted of both locally and internationally operating SAP customers whose contact persons were interviewed. Based on the results the findings are that the decisions of how training is planned and carried out are made either in the project or program. Another finding was that after the project or program the business units were responsible for developing training independently or with support from the organization’s training unit. As a conclusion it can be stated that training should be set the same objectives as the project. The training project should have executive level management support and the project’s achievements should be reviewed constantly. It should be ensured that the organization accepts the training model or structure after the project. For ensuring learning the participants should be motivated, and prepared to learn. During the training there should be enough time for discussion and to question the objectives. Different learning styles should be supported. It is also recommended that the organization’s own trainers should be used for end user training as they normally have good business knowledge and they have had a possibility to adapt the new way of working and the new business processes during the project. Training knowledge can be adapted more easily from outsiders than business or process knowledge. As a proposal for further development the training consultant’s work should be presented in such a manner that the customer clearly sees the value of investing in the consultant. The training consultant’s services should be presented so that the customer can choose different service modules based on the target group’s needs and they can combine them in their own way. The marketing should be directed to different target groups as well as the marketing message should be clarified and adjusted to the target group to ensure appreciation....

Competitive advantage and efficiency Case: Transferring procurement back-office functions to another country The objective of this thesis is to discover how it is possible to standardize back-office operations within 8 different countries, so that the same processes and activities apply widely to countries that are in the scope of the project. Other objectives are to identify back-office transfer requirements as well as the impacts the transfer will have on cost effectiveness and standardization. The thesis presents different methods that were used when Hewlett-Packard Corporation’s back-office operations were transferred to Bulgaria. Hewlett-Packard Corporation operates in the ICT sector and it provides technology solutions to consumers and enterprises all around the world. The current stage of back-office operations were analyzed, processes and applicable tools as well as training needs were also specified. In addition to the aforementioned, tasks of the new organization and service levels were agreed. Based on the result of the study development proposals were given. The approach method is qualitative. The theoretical framework of the thesis consists of used literary material about outsourcing and different options for outsourcing. The thesis presents also benefits, disadvantages and risks as well as practical outsourcing examples. The research studies also some experiences in the Finnish market. The empirical material of the thesis consists of material related to the Hewlett-Packard Cor-poration outsourcing project. The researcher has been involved with the research by working for the case company and as country project manager for the outsourcing project. Based on the result it can be seen that one fundamental matter in outsourcing is to understand the current stage. An organization cannot succeed without proper analysis. It is also obvious that even though back-office operations may be equal in each country, procedures may differ. Thus it is important to list all activities with used tools in writing in all countries. It is more convenient to identify practices and activities to be standardized by using the created list than to have a list per country only. Cost effectiveness is dependent on how the organization is restructured and how tactical and strategic work is separated....

Application of quality and testing standards in different phases of software testing The purpose of the exploratory development project was to study and develop the application of different quality and testing standards in different phases of software testing from the consulting point of view. The project was carried out as an exploratory development project for Qentinel Ltd. The research problem was to find out how different quality and testing standards can be used and applied in the different phases of software testing. The research problem was approached from a project management (PMBOK), software maturity model (CMM) and software testing standard (ISO 29119) aspects. The theoretical context of the study consisted of the following: total quality management, quality assurance, Deming cycle, ISO 29119-2 test process, software maturity model, project management standard, testing V-model, value creation, value shop and standard’s effect of consulting business. Research material was collected from Qentinel staff and customer firms by questionnaires. The material was analyzed by using a thematic approach. The main themes were: the knowledge and application of standards, experiences of standard usage, usage of standards in different testing models and the integration of standards into corporate daily life. The study showed that project management and software maturity model standards are compatible with testing standards and the testing V-model. The study showed also that project management and maturity model standards don’t expect certain content from test phases but don’t either exclude the content requirements set by the testing standard. Testing standards offer more different kinds of aids and document templates to testing phases than project management and software maturity model standards. According to research material almost a hundred testing related standards were known and they were divided relatively equally between ISO, IEEE and other standard groups. Only a few had standard usage experience but overall the attitude towards standards was positive. Standards were used in the V-model more than in agile models. Integrating standards into daily life had been challenging due to the low level of application experience. Standard know-how and application according to corporate needs aids standard integration. As a development idea it was suggested that Qentinel should collect standard application usage experiences from customer projects. Additionally, it was proposed that a case-study about standard integration should be conducted when some customer company takes standards into use. A follow-up research study of how quality award models define testing was suggested. Competence development, management of intellectual capital and value creation in consulting business and value measuring would be good follow-up items, preferably by using a practical case–study....
