The objective of this thesis was to map the opinions and experiences of Espoo residents about the effects of tourism on Espoo. The commissioner of this thesis was Visit Espoo, which is a DMO, operating in the city of Espoo. The research also studied the general satisfaction and opinions of Espoo residents about what it is like to live in Espoo and how tourism affects their daily lives. The study also examined how locals perceive tourism services in the area of their hometown and whether they themselves are interested in them. This research was conducted by an online survey and the survey was published on the websites of Visit Espoo and the City of Espoo. The results of the study are opened up in a separate report, which covered almost all the questions in the study, and the results were tabulated into their own tables. The results were also compared with the background data obtained from the respondents using cross-tabulation. The material obtained from the study was processed according to quantitative research methods. In the theoretical section of the thesis, the basic elements of tourism and the factors influencing it were reviewed. Theoretical information on the characteristics of tourism destinations, the effects of tourism and themes related to the development of tourism were also included in the theoretical framework. Based on the results of this study, Espoo residents are mostly satisfied with the current situation of tourism in the Espoo region and the tourism services available in Espoo. Respondents also found their hometown to mostly be a comfortable and pleasant place to live. The results also revealed the values of Espoo citizens in relation to tourism and the development of tourism Espoo. For the most part, the respondents were very interested in the well-being of nature and the environment and also hoped that more events would be held in Espoo. However, many respondents also expressed dissatisfaction, in particular with public transport and routes. For the most part, the respondents were very receptive to the development of tourism and tourism services in Espoo. According to the results obtained, the City of Espoo and Visit Espoo should pay more attention to, for example, the possibilities related to organizing events and improving the accessibility of tourism services....
