Developing Program of Induction Training to Support Meeting Services The goal of this thesis is to develop a program of induction training for the needs of Marina Congress Center` s meeting department. There is a demand for a program of induction training, because before there has not been any complete model for that. To develop a program of induction training, literature, theme interviews, old theses, project meetings and observation have been used. The target company of the thesis is Scandic hotel chain’s Marina Congress Center. It`s meeting department is responsibility for meetings at Grand Marina - hotel as well. Marina Congress Center is one of the biggest congress centres in Helsinki. Besides the existing hotel, Grand Marina supports the services of the congress centre by offering 462 hotel rooms and several small meeting rooms. This project started by searching information about induction training from literary sources. According to sources, induction training means all those actions which help the employee to get known his workplace, its courses of action, work environment and co-workers. Induction training is important, because it will help employees to learn to work independently, to work without mistakes, to increase work atmosphere, motivation and company image. All the most important emphasis of the program of induction training are surveyed by project meeting, observation and interviewing the staff of the meeting department. Based on the interviews, it seems that there is a demand to develop the current induction training. The general wish was to get more supporting tools for induction training and clear instruction about responsibilities of running it. Furthermore the general wish was to get more follow up starting from the beginning of induction training. Summaries of the project meetings and observation support all given results from the interviews. As a result of the thesis, the meeting department got a new program of induction training. The program consist s frame of the induction training, employee`s handbook, A-Ö - guide and a checklist of induction training. The program will be used at Marina Congress Center’s meeting department and as a electronic document it will be easy to update later on. It will be important tool for induction training. The thesis writer is satisfied with the results of the thesis because of the program and because of his own individual learning. While collecting material for the thesis he has had a chance to develop his own professional expertise. Keywords: Meeting services, induction training, briefing of work, program of induction train-ing...

Changes in part-productivity and unit costs of municipal cleaning services years 2007-2008 The purpose of the thesis is to examine the changes part-productivity and unit costs of cleaning services in 2007-2008 after the change in the organization. All the persons doing the cleaning service in City of Vantaa were transferred to another unit of Tilakeskus, from 1.1.2007. Before the organizational change in the cleaning services, the industry was dispersed over the city's various industries. City of Vantaa, cleaning services are now produced as a separate production and purchased services. This work compared cleaning services in two different school buildings. In one of them cleaning services were produced by own production and in the other one cleaning services were subcontracted. Changes in the part-productivity and the unit costs were compared in 2007-2008. The unit cost was calculated based on from different systems. This thesis looked at different function models of the municipal services: self-production, customer-producer model, purchase services or outsourcing of services. In the City of Vantaa cleaning services have been produced in various models and the goal is to provide cleaning services in a cost-effective and customer-oriented way. In City of Vantaa the productivity program 2010-2013 aims to develop functionality of all the products and services. The goal is to achieve a two percent saving on an annual basis. Improving the productivity of the City of Vantaa is a mode of operation and the productivity of the program aims to encourage staff to develop, measure the productivity of the agreed indicators and increase monitoring. The City of Vantaa is a growing city. The number of square meters to clean has increased every year. The number of the cleaners has reduced it can be seen that the overall productivity is increased. The biggest cost of cleaning services is personnel costs. Cleaning services are below the annual budget allocated to it. The cleaning services of the two school buildings were compared in 2007-2008. Part-productivity was not developed in those locations over two years. Purchased services in this school building were cheaper than the cleaning by own production. Cost difference narrowed in 2008. There is not much information available of municipal cleaning services´ productivity, or close to it, the concepts of efficiency and effectiveness. Publicly funded services or products are expected to be transparent. Hopefully that in the future there is more information available about municipal cleaning services because municipal own production is still the most popular method to produce cleaning services. The new approaches of the cleaning services have not met expectations....

The Contents of the Business Park User’s Environment Manual The reduction of environmental effects is a current topic: people try to control harmful effects on the environment and the use of energy by different means. This study's goal was to build a table of contents for an environment manual. In accordance with the table of contents, the manual was designed for the business park users. The study's purpose was to create a usable tool for the premises to control environment effects. As a part of this study an environment manual was completed for a business park in the Keilaniemi suburb of Espoo. The environment manual contains instructions from the environment and energy conservation perspectives and ideas for the conservation of environment and energy. The environment manual is a part of the client's, KJ-Kiinteistöjohto Ltd., development of environmental matters in the premises. A case was used as this study's approach. The case was a business park in Espoo, High Tech Center Keilaniemi. In the study, all the users of the High Tech Center Keilaniemi premises belonged to the basic group. A questionnaire was sent to all the premises' users for them to participate in the study, so the study's sample was implemented as a total sample. The environment manual's contents were compiled with the results of the survey and literature dealing with the topic. Furthermore information from the High Tech Center Keilaniemi's facility and property manager and a representative of the client's working group for developing envi-ronmental matters were also used as source material. The survey conducted in this study charted the users' opinions about the environment manual, and matters the respondents found important to be included in the manual. The questionnaire was sent to 508 people in total 103 of returned it. The material obtained with the questionnaires was analysed by cross tabulation contents. By far a majority of all the respondents, 77.6 % considered the development of the environment manual as important or very important. A majority of all the respondents felt that the environment manual should include at least issues dealing with electricity consumption, heating and air conditioning, lighting and waste management. Of these, especially waste management of the business park was considered very important: 85.4 % of the respondents felt that the inclusion of waste management in the environment manual is important or very important. The dependency between the variables in the questionnaire was tested by the chi-square –test. According to the test more women than men considered the discussed matters influencing the environment important enough as to be included in the manual. By instructing the business park users to use building complex cleverly people can attain energy savings and reduce any possible harmful effects originating the real estate on the environment. The environment manual developed as a part of this study was formed for the client as a tool to help manage the environmental matters....

Anoreksian ravitsemushoito anorektikon kokemana
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)
The nutrition treatment of anorexia nervosa and how an anorexic person experienced it Anorexia nervosa is an actual disease that has existed for a very long time, though it hasn’t been fully understood in the past. The classic representations of anorexia are from the 19th century, but only relatively recently we’ve truly come to realize the qualities and dangers anorexia contains. Simultaneously we’ve also come to understand the importance of proper treatment for this devious illness. A big part of that proper treatment is taking into consid-eration the patient’s thoughts and wishes. The chances of succeeding in treating a person’s anorexia are better when the person agrees with the treatment. The thesis consists of two parts. The first part is theoretic, and digs into the very essence of anorexia nervosa. The theoretic part attempts to explain what anorexia is, where it comes from, how it can be recognized and what can be done when anorexia has occurred. The second, exploratory, part of the thesis consists of a case-study. That part of the thesis tries to drill into the mind of an anorexic person and by doing so it tries to offer valuable information considering the treatment of anorexia nervosa. The very last bit of this thesis is devoted to conclusions and pondering. The examination of this thesis has been executed with an electrical questionnaire in March 2009. There has also been conversation via e-mail with the respondent. According to the gotten answers the respondent has gotten comprehensive treatment for her anorexia, and for the most part she has agreed with the treatment. Naturally there have been some parts of the treatment she hasn’t been completely happy about. According to the answers this pa-tient’s illness has been treated with justified seriousness. Based on the respondent’s answers the treatment of anorexia nervosa in general has got room for improvement. These matters are discussed at the end of this thesis. The idea to write a thesis about this subject rose from personal desire to understand anorexia nervosa better. The ultimate goal was to get better knowledge and thereby better under-standing of the disease, and also offer that understanding to others. Secondary goals were to recognize possible shortcomings in the treatment of anorexia nervosa, and to try to figure out solutions for those shortcomings....

Marketing communication plan for space planning company As a functional thesis I devised a marketing communication plan for the space planning company. The plan was aimed for to the target group of new potential customers. There was no systematically planned communication for the target group before there was a need for the marketing communication plan. For generating the ideas of communicational tools I interviewed Riitta Auvinen, the executive vice president of Soprano’s communication agency and Janne Vahvaselkä, the copywriter of SekGrey called an advertising agency. The material for the theoretical section of thesis was mostly based on Vuokko’s book ‘Marketing communication’ and Isohookana’s ‘The Company’s marketing communication’. The theoretical section of concentrates on the different communication tools available. The theory of business-to-business and service marketing is also presented in the thesis. The main objective of the study was to find the most cost-effective marketing communication tools, which can be carried out with a relatively small budget. It was important for the planning process to choose suitable communication mix tools. In addition, one objective of the study was to give tools for the company to develop its means of communication in the future. Marketing communication plan was turned into a separate tablet-form presentation, which reflects aims, strategy and schedule for marketing communication. As the result of the study a marketing communication plan is presented that is a guide for the personnel. I believe that the plan will be proved useful in the industry of space planning....

Compiling an Environmental Programme for a Housing Company Environmental impacts are a quite widely studied subject nowadays. There are many of studies of environmental impacts, for example, what causes them and what kind of environmental damage they do. How the environmental programme has worked in different corporations is not so widely studied. Some of those studies have shown that the environmental programmes have helped the corporations to reduce their environmental impacts. Those kinds of studies are taken into account during the process when the environmental programme has been planned. The objective of this thesis is to compile an environmental programme for Lahden Talot Oy. Lahden Talot Oy is a housing company that operates in Lahti. The environmental programme’s job is to help Lahden Talot Oy to manage their environmental impacts. The environmental programme is made in partnership with Lahden Talot Oy in order to secure that the programme is suitable for the company. Some people of the Lahden Talot Oy’s staff were interviewed in many phases of the producing process. The decisions, which were made during the process, are explained by the theory through this report. The theory of this thesis consists, for example, of real estate and environmental management literature. The goal of this thesis was reached by surveying the current situation of the Lahden Talot Oy’s environmental impacts and then creating the environmental objectives, indicators, means and schedules. The content of the environmental programme was compared to an environmental programme made by another Finnish housing company. The managing director of that company was also interviewed. Lahden Talot Oy’s environmental programme was also compared to two well-known environmental standards; ISO 14001 and EMAS. The results of the interviews gave more information about the company’s acts for the environment and proposals for what the environmental programme could contain. According to the results, Lahden Talot Oy’s environmental programme can function in accordance with set objectives. Lahden Talot Oy’s staff has been satisfied with the programme, and has plans to launch it at the beginning of year 2009. The environmental programme was compiled in 2008 and it is documented in a 16-page-long guide. The programme was not launched or tested in practice during this thesis....

Tunturihotellin perehdyttämisen kehittäminen
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)

Biosignaalimittaukset osana suurkeittiötyön fyysisen kuormittavuuden hallintaa tulevaisuudessa - case Myontec Oy
(Laurea-ammattikorkeakoulu, 2009)
Merkittävimpiä muutoksia on aiheuttanut keittiöteknologian kehitys.
Ensimmäinen vaihtoehtoinen tulevaisuudenkuva on teknologia-skenaario, jossa teknologian merkitys keittiöiden tuotantoprosesseissa korostuu. Toinen skenaarioista on todennäköinen tulevaisuusskenaario, jossa muuttujien kehityksen oletetaan jatkuvan samansuuntaisena tulevaisuudessakin. Kolmas skenaarioista on uhkaskenaario.
Anturivaatteiden toimivuutta keittiötyön kuormituksen tarkkailussa on jo alustavasti kartoitettu. Mittaustuloksista saatiin työsuorituksen kannalta merkittävää tietoa ja myös opinnäytetyömme tulokset vahvistavat ravitsemusalan olevan ehdottomasti alue, jolla anturivaateteknologiaa voidaan myös tulevaisuudessa hyödyntää....
Managing Physical Workloads in Catering Kitchens in The Future With The Help of Bio-Signal Measurements – Case Myontec Oy The aim of the thesis is to find out the special features of work done in catering kitchens and focus on catering kitchens as operational environments. The emphasis is on stress caused by work conditions and workloads. The objective is to discover how physical workloads in catering kitchens will change in the future, and how workload management can benefit from biosignal measurements. These measurements, which are done by using sensor clothes, are the specialty of our working life partner Myontec Oy. The data for the thesis is acquired from literature and through specialist interviews. The future scenario has been researched by using Top Ten listings, future tables and scenario method. Three different future scenarios have been built based on theory and specialist interviews. Workloads in catering kitchens are a combination of work and working environment. Especially straining are repetition in movements and lifting and transferring heavy loads. Work environment is also challenging as the working conditions have significant changes in room temperature, humid air, draft and noise. The risk of possible accidents happening is elevated. Work done in catering kitchens has gone through minor alterations during the last decades. The development of technology in kitchen appliances has brought about the most significant changes. Kitchen technology can play a major role in decreasing workloads in the future. The first alternative future scenario is the technology scenario, where the significance of technology in kitchen manufacturing processes is emphasized. The second is the most likely future scenario, where the development of variables is expected to continue as it has so far. In this scenario, competent work force shortage and the aging of population are emphasized. On the other hand, also general wellbeing is increased. The third scenario is the threat scenario, where the catering industry’s problems are emphasized. These are for example bad image and staff’s weak ability to work, which in turn have an effect on the quality of food and the number of clients. The significance of the wellbeing of employees will increase in the future. Also, awareness of the existence of new technological applications, such as sensor clothes, will grow. The growth in knowledge and general interest will further the development of embedded technology. The sensor clothes will be seen as an efficient way to monitor workloads during work performance. The functionality of sensor clothes in measuring workloads in kitchen work has already been analyzed. The measuring results shed significant light to the work performance. Also, this thesis supports the results that catering work can benefit from sensor clothes in the future....
