Nuoren anoreksiaa sairastavan perheen tarvitsema tuki : Katsaus kirjallisuuteen

Abstract

Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli kehittää anoreksiaa sairastavien nuorten ja perheiden kanssa tehtävää hoitotyötä tarjoamalla sosiaali- ja terveysalan ammattilaisille tietoa vanhempien tuen tarpeesta. Tutkimuskysymykset olivat seuraavat: millaista tukea perheet ovat saaneet nuoren sairastuessa anoreksiaan, millaista tukea perheet tarvitsevat ja miten tukea tulisi kehittää.

Tavoitteeseen vastattiin kirjallisuuskatsauksena toteutuneena tutkimuksella, jossa valikoituneet artikkelit analysoitiin induktiivisesti. Opinnäytetyö oli kuvaileva kirjallisuuskatsaus, joka noudatti systemaattisen katsauksen periaatteita. Aineistona oli yhdeksän tutkimusartikkelia, joista yksi oli suomenkielinen pro gradu -tutkielma ja loput kansainvälisiä tutkimuksia.

Tutkimustulokset osoittivat, että anoreksiaa sairastavan nuoren perheiden hoitoon mukaan ottamisessa on puutteita. Perheet tarvitsevat enemmän emotionaalista tukea lähiympäristöltään sekä hoitavilta ammattilaisilta. Lisäksi perheet tarvitsevat ammattilaisten antamaa hoidollista tukea, neuvontaa ja ohjausta itse sairaudesta sekä siitä, kuinka perheet pärjäävät sairastuneen kanssa kotona. Perheen tarvitsevat apua oppiakseen paremmin kommunikoimaan ja ilmaisemaan paremmin tunteitaan. Tutkimukset osoittivat myös perhetyön merkityksen koko perheen huomioimisessa.

Johtopäätöksinä voidaan todeta, että perhetyöllä, emotionaalisella tuella sekä ammattilisella hoidolla ja tuella voidaan tukea anoreksiaa sairastavan nuoren vanhempia ja perheitä. Hoitotyön ammattilaisten tulisi kehittää perheiden tuen tarpeen näkökulmaa anoreksiaa sairastavan nuoren kokonaisvaltaisessa hoidossa.

The aim of the research was to develop healthcare and social service professionals’ knowledge of the support required by the parents of an anorexic adolescent. The research questions were as follows: What kind of support had the families received when a young family member was ill with anorexia? What kind of support do the families need? How should this support be developed?

The research goal was reached through a literature review with help of an inductive analysis of the chosen articles. The thesis is a descriptive literature review following the principles of a systematic review. The review covered nine research articles, of which one was a Finnish-language master’s thesis and the rest were international studies.

The results showed deficiencies in the care of families with adolescents suffering from anorexia. The families need more emotional support from people close to them and also from professional care workers. The families also need the professionals to provide more support with care, advice, information about the disease and how the families can cope with the unwell individual at home. The families need help in learning how to improve communication and how to express emotions. The research also showed the significance of taking the whole family into account when working with the family.

The conclusions were that family work, emotional support and professional care can support the parents and family members of an adolescent suffering from anorexia. Professional health care workers should develop family support needs from the viewpoint of the anorexic adolescent’s holistic care.
