Tietoteknisten laitteiden käytön opettaminen ikäihmisille

Abstract

Ikäihmisten määrä tulee kasvamaan lähitulevaisuudessa entistä suuremmaksi ja heille julkaistaan yhä enemmän heille tarkoitettuja tietoteknisiä laitteita ja ohjelmia. Tästä johtuen opinnäytetyö lähti tutkimaan tietoteknisten laitteiden opettamista ikäihmisille. Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantaja oli HAMKin vuonna 2014 loppunut Konseptori-projekti, jonka loppumisen jälkeen opinnäytetyö siirtyi HAMKin toimeksiannoksi.

Opinnäytetyön päätavoitteena oli tutkia ja kehittää ikäihmisten erilaisia tietotekniikka-aiheisia hetkiä, kuten tuki- ja opetushetkiä. Tämän saavuttamiseksi kerättiin huomioita opinnäytetyön aikana järjestetyistä tietotekniikka-aiheisista opetus- ja tukikerroista sekä Wii-pelikerroista, joita jälkeenpäin arvioitiin ja pohdittiin. Työn teoriaosuudessa sovelletaan ikäihmisiä koskevia lakeja ja tietoa heidän yleisistä korkean iän aiheuttamista sairauksista.

Ikäihmisten tietoteknisten laitteiden oppimista tutkitaan kvalitatiivisesti. Opinnäytetyön tekijä järjesti palvelutalossa kahdenkeskisiä tapaamiskertoja, joihin osallistui ikäihminen ja ohjaaja. Tapaamiskerroissa ikäihmiset saivat tietoteknistä tukea ja opetusta heille tärkeistä aiheista. Tapaamiskertojen lisäksi järjestettiin Wii-pelikertoja. Pelikertojen ajatuksena oli aktivoida ikäihmisiä uudella tavalla ja samalla tutkia sitä.

Opinnäytetyötä tehdessä selvisi ikäihmisten keskustelussa toistuvia trendejä. Toistuvien opetuskertojen kautta pystyttiin luomaan toimivia käytänteitä ja huomioita, miten tietotekniikkaa opetetaan ikäihmisille. Paljastui myös, että ikäihmisten halu oppia tietotekniikka ei johdu tietotekniikan itseisarvosta, vaan syystä käyttää sitä.

Seuraava askel tämän työn jälkeen olisi tutkia laajemmin ikäihmisten valmiutta oppia tietotekniikkaa. Kuinka ikäihmiset pystyisivät oppia käyttämään valtaväestölle tarkoitettua tietotekniikkaa?

In the near future the amount of elderly will increase rapidly and because of that there will be more services available in IT devices and software precisely for their needs. The idea for the thesis started from there, on this thesis studied how IT devices are taught to the elderly. The assignment for the thesis originally came from HAMK’s Konseptori -project which ended on 2014. After the project ended the assignment for the thesis switched over to HAMK.

The main goal of this thesis was to study and develop of elderly’s IT support and teaching methods. During the thesis research data was collected from elderly’s IT support and learning lessons to achieve the main goal. Research data was also collect from Wii game sessions where elderly people played Wii game console in small groups.

Theory part of the thesis is using laws and information about elderly’s common sicknesses like a memory disorder, presbyopia and tremble.

Elderly’s learning of IT devices is studied by qualitative method. Writer of the thesis arranged one on one meeting sessions with an elderly and himself at the sheltered home. In the sessions the elderlies got IT support and teaching about subjects that were important for them. In addition there was Wii game sessions. The idea of Wii game sessions was to activate elderly people with new methods and at the same time study it.

Writer of the thesis found frequent trends in elderlies’ conversations while he was working on the thesis. He was also able to create functional methods and points for how to teach IT to elderlies by using repetitive IT teaching lessons.

The next step of the thesis would be to study more about elderlies’ abilities to study IT. How elderlies could learn to use more mainstream IT devices and software?
