Chileläisten lasten elämää kuvina

Abstract

Tämä opinnäytetyö on toiminnallinen produktion. Työ sisälsi suunnitellun lapsilähtöisen valokuvaustoiminnan, raportin sen toteutumisesta ja opinnäytetyön arvioinnin. Opinnäytetyö tehtiin lastenhoitoa järjestävässä Casa de la Mujerissa Santiago de Chilessä. Opinnäytetyö toteutettiin 4–7-vuotiaiden lapsiryhmässä syys-, loka- ja marraskuussa 2014. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli osallistaa varhaiskasvatusikäisiä lapsia valokuvaustoimintaan. Lapset kuvasivat kamerapuhelimilla Casa de la Mujerissa ja kertoivat kuvistaan. Lapsilla oli tarvetta toiminnalle, sillä heille ei järjestetty ohjelmaa. Opinnäytetyön oheistuotteena syntyi valokuvasivu internetiin (www.flickr.com/photos/130580855@N02/).

Lapset osallistuivat valokuvaustoimintaan toivotusti Casa de la Mujerissa. Lapset valokuvasivat leikkejä, kavereita ja ympäristöään. Valokuvaus toimi lapsen ilmaisukeinona. Lasten valokuvat ja puhe olivat tietoa lapselta hänen todellisuudestaan ja ne kertoivat, mihin lapset kiinnittivät huomionsa. Lasten kuvista puuttuivat Casa de la Mujerin aikuiset. Valokuvien perusteella aikuiset jäivät lasten silmin taka-alalle. Kuvista näki lasten löytävän iloa ja merkittäviä asioita yksinkertaisesta ympäristöstä.

Työn kehittämisen kannalta henkilökunnan mukaan toimintaan saaminen olisi ollut tärkeää. Toisaalta valokuvaaminen toimi esimerkkinä työntekijöille erilaisesta toiminnan mallista lasten kanssa. Valokuvausprojekti lisäsi lapsen vuorovaikutusta ja kommunikaatiota. Kuvat toimivat myös viestinä vanhemmille lapsen päivästä. Valokuvaustoiminta antoi lapsille heidän tarvitsemaansa aikaa aikuiselta ja mahdollisuuden tulla kuulluksi.

The thesis is a functional production. It contains a premeditated child-centered photography activity, a report of the realization of the project and evaluation of the thesis. The thesis was accomplished in a childcare providing facility of Casa de la Mujer in Santiago de Chile. The project was executed between September and November of 2014 with a Chilean children’s group aged 4 to 7. The goal of the thesis was to participate children in photography activity. The children took pictures with cell phone cameras in Casa de la Mujer and they commented on their pictures. The project was welcomed because the children did not have organized activities at Casa de la Mujer. A website was created as a side product of the thesis (www.flickr.com/photos/130580855@N02/).

The children participated photographing activity in Casa de la Mujer. They photographed games, friends and surroundings. Photographing worked as a tool of self-expression for the children. They produced the pictures and the stories themselves. The pictures showed what the children concentrated on. One aspect that rose from the pictures was the absence of the adults. According to the pictures, the interaction between the children and the adults was left on the background. One can see from the pictures that the children find joy and important things from simple surroundings.

For the sense of improving the work it would have been important to have the staff more involved in the activity. On the other hand photographing worked as an example for the staff of a different working method with the children. The photographing project increased the communication and interaction. The pictures worked as a message of the daily life of a child to their parents. The photographing activity gave children much needed time to spend with an adult while offering an opportunity to be heard.
