Tulevaisuuden markkinapotentiaalit 3D-tulostuksessa

Abstract

Tämän insinöörityön tarkoituksena oli selvittää 3D-tulostamisen tulevaisuuden kiinnostavia liiketoimintamahdollisuuksia. Työn tavoitteena oli muodostaa perusteltu näkemys liiketoimintamahdollisuuksista alalla jo toimivan tai alalle vasta aikovan yhtiön näkökulmasta seuraavien 3–5 vuoden perspektiivillä.

Työ sisältää 3D-tulostuksen taustakuvauksen sekä selvityksen alan nykytilasta. Nykytilan selvitys perustuu nykyisin käytössä oleviin tulostusmateriaaleihin ja tulostusmenetelmiin, sekä alan kahdeksan keskeisimmän globaalin toimijan vertailuun. Näiden lisäksi työssä käydään läpi alan keskeisimmät tulevaisuuden näkymät.

Työn lopputuotos syntyi nykyisin käytössä olevien tulostusmenetelmien ja materiaalien selvityksen, alan keskeisten kahdeksan globaalin toimijan vertailun, sekä alan tulevaisuuden kehityksen yhteenvedon synteesiin perustuen. Lopputuloksena syntyi viisi kohtaa sisältävä listaus ja päätason kuvaus 3D-tulostuksen tulevaisuuden kiinnostavista markkinapotentiaaleista.

Tämä insinöörityöhanke ei ota kantaa lopputuloksena syntyneiden tulevaisuuden markkinapotentiaalien niin sanottuun paremmuusjärjestykseen. Lopputuloksena syntyneen listauksen sisältämät viisi liiketoimintamahdollisuutta erosivat toisistaan paljoltikin, joten näiden vertaileminen ei ole mielekästä. Tämän johdosta liiketoimintamahdollisuuksien keskinäinen vertailu on rajattu pois tästä insinöörityöhankkeesta.

The purpose of this Bachelor’s thesis was to explore interesting market opportunities for 3D printing business in the future. The main aim of this thesis was to form a justifiable view of these market opportunities within the perspective of the next 3–5 years, for a company that already operates in 3D printing business or for a company that is planning to start operating in the field of 3D printing.

The study provides a background description of 3D printing as well as a description of the current state of the industry based on printing materials and printing methods used nowadays, and a comparison of eight key companies in the industry. In addition, the study explores key future views of the industry.

The end results of this study are based on a synthesis of the research on 3D printing methods and materials used nowadays, a comparison of these eight key companies in the industry, and a summary of the future views of the industry. Based on these, a list containing five interesting market opportunities in the future of 3D printing business was formed.

This Bachelor’s thesis does not take a stand about any ranking order of these market opportunities in the end results of this study. These five market opportunities differed from each other quite much, so a comparison between these is not meaningful. Based on that, a comparison of these future market opportunities is out of the scope of this Bachelor’s thesis.
