Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on selvittää päiväkodin työntekijöiden näkemyksiä ja kokemuksia varhaisesta puuttumisesta lastensuojelutoimia vaativissa tilanteissa. Työn keskeisiä teemoja ovat lastensuojelullisen huolen ilmeneminen päiväkodissa, varhaisen puuttumisen toteuttaminen lapsesta heränneen huolen pohjalta sekä varhaisen puuttumisen edistäminen päiväkodissa. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on myös tuoda esille päiväkodin työntekijöiden näkökulma varhaiseen puuttumiseen. Työn teoriaosuudessa käsitellään huolta lapsesta, varhaista puuttumista, sekä päivähoitoa puuttumisen ympäristönä. Teoreettisen osan tarkoituksena on sekä esitellä varhaisen puuttumisen prosessia että luoda viitekehys, jota vasten niin työntekijöiden näkemyksiä ja kokemuksia kuin tutkimuksen johtopäätöksiäkin voidaan reflektoida. Opinnäytetyö on luonteeltaan kvalitatiivinen tutkimus. Tutkimusaineisto kerättiin teemahaastatteluilla. Kahdesta heinolalaisesta päiväkodista haastateltiin yhteensä kuutta työntekijää. Tutkimustulokset osoittavat, että lastensuojelullinen huoli ilmenee päiväkodissa pääasiassa lapsen oireilusta, lapsen hoitamattomuudesta ja perhelähtöisistä syistä. Huolitilanteiden pohjalta toimimisen lähtökohtana on huolen vakavuuden arviointi, jonka perusteella päätetään muiden toimien tarpeellisuudesta. Tutkimuksen mukaan puuttumisen prosessi etenee useimmissa tapauksissa työntekijöiden välisten keskustelujen jälkeen huolen puheeksiottoon lapsen vanhempien kanssa ja sen myötä muiden yhteistyötahojen mukaantuloon. Päiväkodin lähtökohdat varhaisen puuttumisen toteuttamiseen perustuvat haastateltujen työntekijöiden mukaan päiväkodin erityiseen, muista puuttumisessa mukanaolevista tahoista poikkeavaan, rooliin sekä ammatin mukanaan tuomiin velvollisuuksiin. Varhaisen puuttumisen edistämiseksi työntekijät puolestaan kaipaavat tutkimustulosten perusteella koulutusta, joka antaisi sekä tietopohjaa että rohkeutta toteuttaa puuttumista vaikeissakin tilanteissa.

The aim of the thesis is to find out about the views and experiences of day care workers concerning early intervention in situations demanding child welfare procedures. The main themes of the thesis are the arising of a child welfare - natured concern in day care, the execution of early intervention based on the concern for a child and the advancement of early intervention in day care. The purpose of the thesis is also to bring out the point of view of day care workers on early intervention. The theoretical part of the thesis discusses the concern for a child, early intervention and day care as an environment for intervention. The purpose of the theoretical part is both to introduce the process of early intervention, and to create a frame of reference, against which the views and experiences of day care workers, as well as the conclusions of the research, can be reflected on. The thesis is a research of a qualitative nature. The research material was collected by theme interviews. From two day care centres situated in Heinola, altogether six day care workers were interviewed. The results of the research show that the child welfare - natured concern arises in day care mainly from a child showing symptoms, a child left without care or from family-related reasons. The starting-point in taking action based on situations involving a concern, is the assessment of the concern's gravity. According to the research, the process of intervention proceeds in most cases in the following order: conversations between day care workers, bringing the concern up for discussion with the child's parents, and the participation of other co-operating parties. According to the interviewed day care workers the grounds of day care in executing early intervention are based on day care's special role, which is different from the role of other parties participating in the intervention, and also on the responsibilities brought on by the profession. Based on the results of the research, the opinions of day care workers point out, that to advance early intervention education is needed in order to bring both the knowledge and the courage to execute interventions also in difficult situations.
