Askel kohti päihteetöntä elämää

Abstract

Tämä opinnäyteyö käsittelee Stop Huumeille ry:n HomeSweetHome -projektia. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvittää projektin asiakkaiden kokemuksia tuetusta asumisesta sekä vertaistuesta. Lisäksi tarkoituksena on tutkia projektin vaikuttavuutta asiakkaiden päihteettömyyteen heidän omien kokemuksiensa pohjalta. Tutkimuksen teoriaosassa käsitellään päihdeongelman luonnetta, vankiloissa tehtävää päihdetyötä, asunnottomuutta sekä tuettua asumista. Lisäksi käsitellään tukihenkilötoimintaa sekä vertaistukea, jotka ovat tärkeitä tekijöitä päihteettömän elämän aloittamisessa. Teoriaosassa esitellään myös HomeSweetHome -projektia, Stop Huumeille ry:n toimintaa sekä aikaisempia tutkimuksia. Tutkimus on luonteeltaan laadullinen ja tutkimusaineisto koostuu kolmen HomeSweetHome -projektin asiakkaan haastatteluista. Aineistonkeruumenetelmänä oli teemahaastattelu. Tutkimustulokset muodostuivat teemahaastattelurungon sekä haastatteluissa esiin nousseiden teemojen pohjalta. Tutkimuksen tulosten mukaan tuettu asuminen ja vertaistuki ovat merkittäviä päihteettömyyteen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Tulosten pohjalta on havaittavissa myös HomeSweetHome -projektin tarpeellisuus vankilasta vapautuville sekä päihdekuntoutuksesta kotiutuville. Koti nähdään ensisijaisen tärkeänä asiana päihde- ja rikoskierteen katkaisemisessa. Pelkkä asunto ei kuitenkaan riitä tukemaan päihteetöntä elämää. Lisäksi tarvitaan tukea päivittäisasioiden hoitamisessa sekä päihteettömän elämäntavan aloittamisessa. Päihteidenkäytön tilalle tarvitaan päihteettömiä vapaa-ajanviettotapoja. Tuetun asumisen ja vertaistuen tarjoama tuki on monelle ensisijaisen tärkeä askel kohti päihteetöntä elämäntapaa.

This thesis deals with the Stop Huumeille ry's HomeSweetHome Project. The aim of this study is to explain the projects customers' experiences of supported accommodation and peer support. This research will also study the effects of the project on the customers' abstinence based on their own experiences. The theoretical part of the study deals with the nature of substance abuse, addiction work in prisons, homelessness and supported accommodation. Studies of the support personnel and peer support groups, which are important in the beginning of a new addiction free life, will also be dealt with. The HomeSweetHome Project, the work of Stop Huumeille ry and other studies will be introduced in the theoretical part of the thesis. This is a qualitative study and the research material is based on the interviews of three HomeSweetHome Project customers. The study material was gathered by means of a thematic interview. The results were formed by means of a thematic interview framework including other themes that occurred during the interview process. According to the results, supported accommodation and peer support have a significant influence on a substance free life. Based on the results it can be acknowledged that the HomeSweetHome Project plays an important role in the support of persons returning home from prison or rehabilitation programs. Home plays the most important role in ending the vicious circle that is drug and crime addiction. However, a place to live is not enough to support a substance free life. To start a substance free life, daily support and care is needed to deal with everyday matters. Substance free activities are needed to fill the time that was once occupied by drug addiction. The support that accompanies supported accommodation and peer support is very important to many who are taking the first steps towards a substance free life.
