Ammatilliseen peruskoulutukseen kohdistuneiden muutosten vaikutus hiusalan opettajan työhön

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää, miten ammatilliseen peruskoulutukseen kohdistuneet muutokset ovat vaikuttaneet hiusalan opettajan rooliin ja opetustyöhön. Tutkimuskysymyksillä pyrittiin selvittämään, miten hiusalan ammatinopettajat kokevat muutosten vaikutukset sekä millaisilla keinoilla voitaisiin motivoida opiskelijoita ja helpottaa opetustyötä. Lisäksi tutkittiin, vastaako nykyinen ammatillinen peruskoulutus työelämän tarpeita. Teoriataustassa avattiin hiusalan ammatillisen peruskoulutuksen perusteita, ammatillisen peruskoulutuksen lakia ja niihin kohdistuneita muutoksia, kuten nuorisotakuuta, tulevaisuuden reformia ja yhteiskunnallisia muutoksia. Käsitteitä ammatinopettajan roolista ja elämälähtöisen koulun perusperiaatteista pohdittiin opinnäytetyössä monelta eri näkökannalta. Kvalitatiivisen tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin haastattelemalla seitsemää Stadin ammattiopiston hiusalan ammatinopettajaa. Tutkimustulokset analysoitiin sisällönanalyysimenetelmää ja ryhmittelyä käyttäen.

Valtakunnallinen opetussuunnitelma koettiin työelämän tarpeita vastaavana, sillä se opettaa opiskelijoille työelämässä tarvittavan ammatillisen perustason. Tutkimustulokset osoittivat kuitenkin, että valtion säästöistä johtuvan lähiopetustuntien vähentymisen vuoksi opiskelijoilta vaaditaan paljon itsenäisyyttä ja vastuunottoa omista opinnoista. Ammatinopettajan roolissa kasvattajan ja ohjaajan tehtävä korostuu vahvasti, koska opiskelijat tarvitsevat paljon sosiaalista tukea, eikä ammatillisessa peruskoulutuksessa tarkoitus ole enää opettaa yksinomaan ammatillisia taitoja. Ennaltaehkäiseviin toimiin nuorten hyvinvoinnin edistämiseksi ja opiskelijaksiottamismenetelmään toivottiin muutoksia. Stadin ammattiopistossa oltiin tyytyväisiä yhteisopettajuuteen ja käytännönläheiseen opetustapaan. Kehitysehdotuksena esiin nousi koulukohtaisen opetussuunnitelman selkeyttäminen niin, että opetuksen taso pysyisi samana kaikille opiskelijoille. Opintokokonaisuuksien opettaminen samanaikaisesti koettiin tärkeäksi. Tutkielman tuloksia voidaan hyödyntää Stadin ammattiopiston sisäisissä kehitystoimissa ja -keskusteluissa.

The purpose of this thesis was to find out how the changes directed at vocational education have affected a teacher’s role and teaching work. The research questions aimed to find out how hairdressing teachers experienced the effects of the changes. The study also intended to find out what methods can be used to motivate students and facilitate the teaching work. One of the research questions highlighted whether the current vocational training meets the demands of the labor market. The theoretical background discusses the fundamentals and laws of vocational education in Finland. It considers the changes in youth education, such as the Youth Guarantee, the future Reform in vocational education and societal changes. The thesis also reviews, from different perspectives, concepts such as the teacher’s role and basic principles of life-oriented education. Qualitative research data was collected by interviewing seven hairdressing teachers from the Stadin ammattiopisto, a vocational school in Helsinki. The results were analyzed by content analysis and using classification.

The national curriculum was experienced to be responsive to the needs of working life in such a way, that it teaches students the basic professional skill sets relevant for working life. However, the study showed that due to governmental savings and the resulting reduction in teaching hours, students are required to be very independent and take more responsibility for their own studies. In the teaching role emphasis is on guiding and raising, because students need a lot of support to meet social needs. Vocational training is no longer designed to teach exclusively professional skills. The study brought out hopes for promoting the wellbeing of young people by stronger preventative measures and changes in student enrollment methods. The results showed satisfaction with teaching methods such as co-teaching and pragmatic learning methods. Development proposals emerged such as clarification of school specific curriculum, so that the level of education would remain the same for all students. Also, the co-existing study programs were considered important for teaching. The results of this study can be utilized in the Stadin ammattiopisto’s internal development activities and debates.
