Sinut on nähty! : Fysioterapeuttien kokemuksia sisarusten huomioimisesta osana lasten vaativaa lääkinnällistä kuntoutusta

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli tutkia fysioterapeuttien kokemuksia sisarusten huomioimisesta osana lasten vaativaa lääkinnällistä kuntoutusta. Opinnäytetyön tavoitteena oli selvittää, miten fysioterapeutit huomioivat sisaruksia työssään sekä millaista osaamista ja tukea he kokevat tarvitsevansa siihen liittyen.

Opinnäytetyön toimeksiantajana oli Tapaturmaisesti loukkaantuneiden tai vammautuneiden lasten ja nuorten sekä heidän perheidensä tukiyhdistys TATU ry. Opinnäytetyö julkaistiin Erityinen sisaruus -hankkeen (2015–2017) verkkosivuilla ja sen tuloksia hyödynnettiin hankkeen tarpeisiin. Tutkimus toteutettiin valtakunnallisena verkkokyselynä, jonka kohderyhmänä olivat lasten vaativaa lääkinnällistä kuntoutusta toteuttavat fysioterapeutit. Ky-sely toteutettiin elo-syyskuussa 2016.

Kyselyyn vastasi 200 fysioterapeuttia. Tulosten perusteella lähes kaikki lasten vaativaa lää-kinnällistä kuntoutusta toteuttavat fysioterapeutit pitävät sisarusten huomioimista tär-keänä sekä huomioivat sisaruksia työssään. Fysioterapeuttien osaamisen ja tuen tarve vaihtelee fysioterapeuttien iän, työkokemuksen sekä omien lasten lukumäärän mukaan. Eniten koetaan tarvetta valmiuksille tukea vanhempien jaksamista sekä arvioida sisarusten tuen tarvetta. Aikaa sisarusten huomioimiseen koetaan olevan liian vähän.

Tutkimustulosten mukaan heillä, joilla ikää tai työkokemusta on enemmän, on myös enemmän osaamista sisarusten huomioimiseen liittyen. Fysioterapeuteilla on kokemuksellista tietoa ja taitoa, jota he ovat saaneet perheiden kanssa työskennellessään. Sisaruksella on tärkeä rooli erityisen sisaruksensa kuntoutuksessa. Hänet tulee kuitenkin nähdä myös yksilönä.

The purpose of the thesis was to study physiotherapists’ experiences of acknowledging siblings as part of children’s medical rehabilitation. The aim of the thesis was to examine how physiotherapists are acknowledging siblings and what kind of competence and support physiotherapists feel that they need concerning the topic.

The thesis was assigned by TATU ry, which is a support society for accidentally injured or disabled children, the young and their families. The thesis was published on the Erityinen sisaruus (2015–2017) project’s website and the results were used for the project’s own requirements. The study was executed as a national survey and the target group was physiotherapists who are practicing children’s medical rehabilitation. The survey was carried out during August and September 2016.

200 physiotherapists answered the survey. Based on the results, almost all physiotherapists practicing children’s medical rehabilitation thinks that acknowledging siblings is important. They are also acknowledging siblings in their work. The need for competence and support varies with physiotherapists’ age, work experience and the amount of their own children. Preparedness for evaluate the coping of the parents and to evaluate siblings’ need for support were mostly needed. Physiotherapists felt that finding time for the siblings is difficult.

Based on the results, physiotherapists who were older and had more work experience also had more competence for acknowledging siblings. Working with families has given empirical knowledge for the physiotherapists. Though siblings play an important role in the rehabilitation of the child with special needs, they still need to be seen as individuals.
