Historialliset hammasteknikon kojeet & laitteet : laitteiden museointi ja tietokirjan toteutus

Abstract

Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on ollut tallentaa Metropolian Ammattikorkeakoulun Viertotien pisteessä säilytyksessä olleiden vanhojen hammasteknisten laitteiden kokoelman dokumentointi. Laitteiden dokumentoinnin ohessa on syntynyt tietokirja laitteista. Opinnäytetyö kuvaa laitteiden dokumentointia ja kirjan syntymistä. Yhteistyökumppanina on toiminut Tekniikan museo.

Laitteiden dokumentointiin on käytetty valokuvausta ja niiden alkuperäisten toimintojen selvittämistä. Tietolähteenä selvitystyölle on käytetty esimerkiksi suomalaisia kirjalähteitä kuten vanhoja Hammasteknikko-lehtiä, Hammastekniikan oppikirjaa ja Hammastekniikan käsikirjaa. Lisäksi on käytetty internet-lähteitä ja vanhempien teknikoiden haastatteluja. Kirjan laatimiseen on käytetty tietokirjallisuuden tekemisen oppaita.

Opinnäytetyön tuloksena on dokumentoitu vanha laitekokoelma ja on syntynyt tietokirja, joka säilyttää ja kokoaa hammastekniikan historiaa 1900-luvun alusta nykypäivään. Teosta on koottu hyvien tietokirjan periaatteiden mukaan.

Our purpose was to document the collection of historical equipment that were in possession of the Degree Programme in Dental technology, Metropolia University of Applied Sciences. Since Metropolia UAS was abolishing the dental technology programme, the collection was losing its storage space and it was in danger to be disposed of. The partner in cooperation was Finnish Museum of Technology that was going to take the collection and look for a better place for it. From the gathered information, we compiled a book about the history of equipment used by dental technicians. This book contains information about the equipment, how they were used and the history of Finnish dental technology.

For documenting the old equipment, we used photography. To gather information we used our knowledge as dental technician students, literature of dental technology and interviews. We also used Internet sources that we chose using source criticism, evaluating their reliability. Our evaluation was based on where the source was found or other information that was available. It could be speculated how reliable the internet publisher or writer was, for example if the writer was student, researcher, university etc. For some machines or appliances information was available in its patent that was found on the Internet.

The result of our thesis was a documentation of the collection and the book that was compiled according to the principles of nonfiction writing. The documentation helps to preserve knowledge of the history of dental technology. The information in the book covers the history of Finnish dental technicians, equipment and the use of materials from the end of 19th century to modern day.
