Kutsumusammattina liikenneopettajuus? : Tutkimus liikenneopettajien työtyytyväisyydestä ja sitoutumisesta liikenneopetusalaan

Abstract

Liikenneopetusalalla vallitseva työvoimapula on merkittävä tekijä tulevaisuudessa, kun tarkastellaan yhteiskunnallista liikenneturvallisuustason säilyttämistä sekä autokoulujen yritystoiminnan jatkuvuutta ja palvelutason ylläpitämistä. Tätä kautta liikenneopettajavajeen vaikutukset saattavat ilmetä myös yksilötasolla.

Tämän opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena oli selvittää liikenneopettajiksi valmistuneiden näkemyksiä liikenneopettajuudesta. Tutkimuksen lähtökohdiksi nousivat liikenne-opettajien työtyytyväisyyden ja työhön sitoutumisen asteet sekä alalla vallitsevien epäkohtien ilmentymät. Merkittävä tutkimuksellinen kohde oli myös liikenneopettajina lopettaneiden prosentuaalinen osuus tutkimusjoukosta.

Tutkimus toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena tammikuussa 2009. Kysely lähetettiin 550:lle satunnaisotannan mukaisesti valitulle liikenneopettajaluvan haltijalle. Kysymykset liittyivät liikenneopetusalalle hakeutumiseen, alan koulutukseen ja työ-elämään. Vastauksia palautui 211, joista hyväksyttiin 207. Vastausprosentiksi muodostui täten 37,6 %.

Vastaajia tarkasteltiin kaikkien vastanneiden ja ryhmäjaottelun kautta. Ryhmiksi muotoutuivat liikenneopettajat, sivutoimiset, lopettaneet ja eläkkeelle siirtyneet. Liikenneopettajina lopettaneiden osuus kaikista hyväksytyistä vastauksista oli lähes 40 prosenttia. Merkittävimmiksi ongelmakohdiksi vastaajat totesivat kaikissa ryhmissä ammatin vaativuuteen nähden kehnon palkkauksen sekä työaikojen ilta-painotteisuuden ja pitkät työpäivät. Työtyytyväisyyttä koettiin itse työhön ja sen sisältöön liittyvien tekijöiden myötä. Erityisesti iloiset, tyytyväiset asiakkaat, onnistumisen kokemukset työssä ja opettamisen tuloksien näkyminen toimivat kannusteina liikenneopettajan ammatissa.

Prevailing lack of manpower in the field of traffic instruction will be a substantial factor in the future when viewed from the retention’s viewpoint as well as from the viewpoint of the entrepreneurship and service level in driving schools. This way the lack of qualified driving instructors may be of significance at an individual level.

The aim of the present thesis was to study qualified driving instructors’ opinions of their profession. Driving instructors’ complacency of work and the level of com-mitment to work as well as the prevailing forms of defects in the field served as the basis of this survey. Furthermore, the number of professionals who had finished working as a driving instructor was a major object of this survey.

The survey was conducted as a questionnaire in January 2009. The questionnaire was sent to 550 driving instructors’ licence holders that were chosen randomly. The questionnaire covered the following topic areas: seeking to the field of traffic instruction, training and working life. 211 responses were received and 207 of them were acceptable. Thus the percentage of acceptable responses was 37,6.

The respondents were examined in relation to all respondents and a group divi-sion. The divided groups were “driving instructors, part-timers, instructors who had ended their work and those who had retired”. The percentage of driving instructors who had ended their work was nearly 40 % of all acceptable responses. The re-spondents in all groups pointed out that the main concerns of the profession were poor wages in relation to the working requirements, evening oriented working hours and long working days. The complacency of work was experienced towards the work itself and through factors relating to the content of the work. Happy, satis-fied customers, the experience of success at work and the results of training acted as incentives in driving instructor’s profession.
