Macrolophus pygmaeus -petolude ympärivuotisessa kasvihuonekurkun viljelyssä

Abstract

Tämän opinnäytetyön tavoitteena on kartoittaa mahdollisuuksia Macrolophus pygmaeus -petoluteen käytölle kasvihuonekurkun viljelyssä ansarijauhiaisen (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) torjunnassa. Macrolophus-petolude on tomaatilla yleisesti käytetty moniruokainen torjuntaeliö, mutta kurkulle sen käyttöä ei ole suositeltu vioitusriskin vuoksi. Eräällä suomalaisella viljelmällä Macrolophus-petoludetta kokeiltiin kurkun tuotannossa keväällä 2016 ja kokeilusta saatujen hyvien tulosten vuoksi asiaa lähdettiin selvittämään.

Opinnäytetyötä varten syksyllä 2016 kahdelle viljelmälle levitettiin Macrolophus-petoluteita. Mukana kokeessa oli kaksi ympärivuotisesti kurkkua viljelevää puutarhaa. Seitsemän kuukauden aikana puutarhoilla käytiin laskemassa petoludemääriä muutamia kertoja kahdesta eri kasvustosta. Samalla seurattiin imentävioituksen määrää ja mahdollista kurkun kasvupisteiden vioitusta. Koepaikoilla tarkasteltiin myös M. pygmaeus -petoluteiden sijoittumista kasvihuonekurkuntaimille.

Kokeiden aikana kävi ilmi, että imentävioitukset olivat erilaisia eri kurkkulajikkeilla. Kummallakaan viljelmällä vioitukset eivät olleet merkittäviä. Koepaikat olivat lähtökohdiltaan erilaisia. Toisella paikalla jauhiaistilanne oli hyvin hallinnassa ja toisella paikalla jauhiaissaastunta oli huomattavasti haastavampi.

Molemmilla koepaikoilla torjuntatuloksiin oltiin tyytyväisiä ja torjuntaa jauhiaisluteen avulla jatketaan kokeilun jälkeen. Eri kurkkulajikkeilla vioitusjäljet haalenivat kurkun hedelmän kasvaessa eri tavalla.

The aim of this thesis was to test the potential of using the predatory bug Macrolophus pygmaeus as a biological control agent against the greenhouse whitefly (Trialeurodes vaporariorum) in year round production of greenhouse cucumber. Macrolophus pygmaeus is widely used on greenhouse tomato. However, its use in cucumber production is not recommended because of the possibility of fruit damage. During the summer of 2016 one greenhouse grower tested M. pygmaeus against greenhouse whiteflies on cucumber with promising results. Due to those encouraging results an experiment was set up during the autumn of 2016. Two cucumber producers released M. pygmaeus into their greenhouses. The cucumber crops were checked for fruit damage and possible damage of the growing points. Besides this the Macrolophus distribution and different life stages within the plant was recorded. The observations were made three times during a 7 month period. The starting point in the two greenhouses was different: One grower had quite a good situation with greenhouse whiteflies, the other had a more challenging situation. However, in both of the greenhouses Macrolophus damage was at a lower level than expected: no growing point damage was recorded and fruit damage was kept at a tolerable level. During this experiment it was noticed that crop damage was different between different varieties. Both growers were pleased with the results of the experiment. They will continue using M. pygmaeus in their greenhouses. The thesis was comissioned by Biotus Oy.
